The University Interscholastic League, which released its football, basketball and volleyball alignments for the coming year on Feb. 2, promised on its website to have 2026-27 alignments posted no later than April 1.
No foolin’, on Wednesday, April 1, at about 2 p.m., all of the remaining alignments – including bas eball, softball, track, golf, spring tennis, team tennis, soccer, cross country, swimming & diving, water polo, wrestling and academics – were released.
Hondo got a little bit of a surprise in its baseball and softball districts when Lytle was moved east from District 28-3A to 27-3A. Otherwise, the Owls will compete in basically the same districts for all of its 3A activities, besides football.
Now, in Hondo’s two 4A activities – team tennis and soccer – they don’t have 3A classifications, so Hondo and other 3As must play up in order to participate, and that membership is quite different. In soccer, the Owls will remain in the same district with most of their current foes, Poteet, Pearsall, Pleasanton, Uvalde and Somerset, plus Devine, which is adding soccer next year, and Creek View, the new school in the Medina Valley ISD, which will begin play this coming fall as a 4A school.Â
Hondo’s team tennis district will be a nine-teamer, also including Creek View, Somerset, Uvalde, Pleasanton, Pearsall, Devine, Carrizo Springs and Crystal City.
D’Hanis & Sabinal
Officially, D’Hanis and Sabinal are in the same districts for baseball and softball, but the UIL separates the 1As from the 2As come playoff time. So any games the 1A schools play against the 2A schools don’t count in the district standings.
Both districts, have the same membership – 10 schools – with six 2As and four 1As. The 2A schools include Sabinal, La Pryor, Center Point, Brackett, Harper and Johnson City. In the 1A portion of the district is D’Hanis, Leakey, Knippa and Medina.
Medina Valley
For Medina Valley, which is moving back down from 6A to 5A this year due to the opening of Creek View with 1,268 students, the districts announced for volleyball and basketball will carry over to most activities. Eagle Pass Winn doesn’t participate in swimming, while Southside doesn’t have swimming or team tennis.Â
Creek View
Most of Creek View’s recently announced districts will follow along with the volleyball/basketball alignments released in February. The Cougars’ team tennis and soccer districts were already mentioned in the Hondo section above.Â
Athletically, that leaves only swimming and diving, where Uvalde is the only other actual 4A school in 15-4A. The rest are 3As and 2As which are opting up to 4A in order to participate in UIL swimming.
A complete list of each district for the coming year at Hondo, D’Hanis, Sabinal, MV and CV is included with this article.Â
Football is set up on two-year alignments, so all districts are set for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. All other sports, while likely to remain unchanged in the second year of the alignment, are officially set only for the 2026-27 school year.
All districts are listed in enrollment rank order to give a better idea of how schools will land in Division 1 and Division 2 in team sports, which divide after the conclusion of the regular season.
