This Saturday at Alice, MV band back to Judson

38 STRAIGHT... Hondo’s Mighty Owl Band will be heading to Area E competition this Saturday, Oct. 24, after claiming the program’s 38th consecutive Division 1 rating  last Saturday at the UIL Region XI Marching Contest at Barry Field. The MOB will be the next-to-last band to perform in preliminary competition, taking the field at 4:45 p.m., at Alice High School.

For the 38th consecutive year, Hondo High School’s Mighty Owl Band received a first division rating at the UIL Region XI marching contest for Conferences 1A-3A. Saturday at Barry Field the MOB was one of seven 3A bands to earn a Superior rating, and earn the right to advance to the Area E contest this Saturday at Alice High School. Devine, Lytle, Natalia, Crystal City, Carrizo Springs and Poteet also earned 1s.

At 3A Area this Saturday, prelims will begin at 9 a.m. Hondo will be the 28th of 29 bands to perform, stepping off at 4:45 p.m. Finals begin at 8 p.m., with the top 10 bands competing once again.

D’Hanis once again got a first division in Conference 1A, and will go straight to the UIL State Marching Contest, which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Alamodome. Joining them from Region XI and the  Leakey and Nueces Canyon bands. There is not an Area level competition for 1A.

In Conference 2A, Brackett, Dilley and Charlotte earned first divisions at Barry Field and will go on to Area at Odem HS on Oct. 31.

At Judson ISD’s Rutledge Stadium on Saturday, both Medina Valley (in 5A) and Creek View (in 4A) received first division ratings, and will be moving on to Area.

The 5A contest is this Saturday, also at Rutledge Stadium. Competition begins at 9 a.m., with the MV band taking the field at noon. The 4A Area competition will be at Calallen HS in Corpus Christi on Oct. 31.

The top five bands at area will earn the right to advance to the State Marching Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio. For 3A, state is set for Wednesday, Nov. 4. For 5A, state will be Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 2-3. For 2A, it’s Tuesday, Nov. 10, and for 4A, the state contest is Wednesday, Nov. 11.
