The Hondo ISD Board of Trustees, at a special meeting on Monday, officially called for a bond election to be included on the May 2, 2026 ballot.

There will be three proposals on the ballot. Proposition A, for general facilities repairs and renovations, will be for $25 million. Proposition B, for renovations at the Hondo baseball and softball fields, will be for $3 million, and Proposition C, which will include renovations at Barry Field, will be for $2 million.

If all three propositions are passed, the total for the entire bond would be $30 million.

The bond committee, which has met eight times over the past three months, has ranked all items included within Proposition A with a priority number from 1 to 4, with the items receiving a ‘1’ designation as being those with the most pressing need.

Items with the highest priority include: at Hondo High School, a front security vestibule; at McDowell Middle School, renovated boys and girls locker rooms; at Woolls Intermediate, a front security vestibule; and at Meyer Elementary, expansion of the cafeteria kitchen. District-wide,  the top priority items include: intercom and fire alarm systems, along with replacement of all HVAC units 15 years and older.

A complete listing of all projects included in the bond proposals, and the projected cost of each, will be included in a future issue.
