New businesses coming to Hondo in early 2026

Several new businesses are coming to Hondo in the first few weeks of 2026.

Hondo area residents now have another way to wash their cars — BlueWave Express Carwash opened in the final days of December.

With a fleet of company cars running through the wash tunnel on Dec. 18, BlueWave site leader Ryan Sanchez said the business opened to the public on Monday, Dec. 22, with a $5 special for the first month. 

All the water is recycled. “Not a single ounce of water is dumped,” he said. Free use of towels and vacuums are included.

Security State Bank South Texas has run into some delays in opening its location at 233 19th Street. 

“The remodeling is a little behind schedule. We don’t have an exact date, but we are hoping to open our new location around the end of January,” said Todd Redfearn, executive vice president who will manage the Hondo branch. The building used to house Hondo Railway and before that, Broadway Bank’s Hondo branch. “We are very excited to have a presence in Hondo and an increased presence in Medina County,” Redfearn said. 

January is also the time frame for opening The Venue by Chateau Claire, 1116B 18th Street. “We hope to wrap up this week and start hosting events at the first of the year,” said owner Joe Claire. 

A few things need to be completed before the city’s final inspection, including finishing touches on a new bar, installation of drapes, an etched design on the front windows and final work on electrical, plumbing and air conditioning, Claire said. 

Over the coming months, the gray building at 1011 US 90 that previously housed the old Hondo Public Library is set to become a convenience store. Mohammad Saifur Rahman, who is renting the site from a San Antonio property owner, said he is just beginning the process of obtaining city permits. 

Signs posted on the building say “Coming Soon, One Stop Mart. Lotto, soda, beer, candy, vape, novelties, food & many more.”
