Early voting starts Monday for primary runoff elections

Just a couple of weeks removed from city and school elections, Medina County voters will have the chance to go to the polls again, this time for the joint primary runoff election.
The actual date of the runoff is Tuesday, May 26, but early voting will run all of the coming week, Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22.
There are five races on the countywide Republican runoff ballot, plus a sixth race which will appear on ballots in Precinct 3.
The two races on the Democrats’ ballot are statewide.
On the Republican ballot are three statewide races, including the battle for the U.S. Senate nomination, between incumbent John Cornyn and challenger, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
There is a runoff to earn the nomination to fill Paxton’s seat as AG, between U.S. Rep. Chip Roy and State Senator Mayes Middleton.
Incumbent Railroad Commissioner Jim Wright faces a runoff challenge from Bo French.
In the runoff for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3, Thomas Smith and Alison Fox are vying for the seat.
Locally, two candidates are seeking the Medina County Clerk’s position, Kimberly Bermea and Cindy Modgling Everett.
And in Precinct 3, two candidates are seeking the Justice of the Peace position, Teresa Koch and Michael Sanchez.
The two statewide Democrat runoff elections are to nominate a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, between Vikki Goodwin and Marcos Isaias Velez; and another for Attorney General, between Nathan Johnson and Joe Jaworski.
Anyone who voted in the March 3 primary in Medina County, is eligible to vote only in the same party’s runoff. Anyone who did not vote in the primary may vote in either runoff.
There are three sites for early voting, which is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day next week:
• Medina County Courthouse Annex, 1300 Ave. M, Hondo;
• Medina County Pct. 2 Annex, 8366 FM 471 South, Castroville; and
• Medina County Pct. 4 Annex, 317 State Hwy 132 North, Devine.
On Election Day, May 26, the eight polling sites will also be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They include:
• Hondo Public Library, 2003 Ave. K;
• South Texas Regional Training Center, 402 Carter, Hondo;
• D’Hanis Community Center, 191 CR 526;
• First Baptist Church, 300 Pearson Street, Natalia
• Medina County Pct. 2 Annex, 8366 FM 471 S., Castroville;
• Medina County Pct. 4 Annex, 317 State Hwy 132 N., Devine;
• Mico Volunteer Fire Department, 7121 CR 271; and
• Medina County ESD No. 1, 135 Stone Loop, Castroville.
Any Medina County registered voter may cast a ballot at any of the polling places. There are not specific polling sites for either of the two political parties.
