District 21 All-Star tournaments begin Saturday in Pearsall

The Pearsall Little League will play host to all divisions of the Texas West District 21 All-Star tournaments, which begin this Saturday, June 13.

Hondo will have teams in seven divisions. D’Hanis is entered in two divisions of softball, while Sabinal will be involved in two divisions of baseball.

Six divisions begin play on Saturday and Hondo has a team involved in four of those divisions on opening day. Most of the tourney action will take place at the Pearsall Sports Complex, which will have all four of its fields in use. The Pearsall High School softball field will also be used for some games in the older divisions.

Saturday at 11 a.m., Hondo will play Pearsall in Junior baseball (age 13-14). At noon, Hondo Minor softball (age 8-10) will face Devine. Hondo Minor baseball will open play at 4 p.m. against Poteet, while Hondo Senior baseball (15-16) will take on Pearsall at 5 p.m.

Two of Hondo’s remaining three teams will open play on Sunday, June 14. Major baseball (age 11-12) will face a team to be determined at 2 p.m., and Major softball starts play at 8 p.m. against Somerset.

Sabinal’s Senior baseball team will play Pearsall Saturday at 8 p.m., and their Major baseball team takes on an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m.

Both of D’Hanis’ teams in the District 21 tourney will begin play on Sunday. The Minor softball team will face either Lytle or Uvalde at 2 p.m., and the Major softball team will play at 6 p.m., against Pearsall.

The Senior softball tourney doesn’t open until next Friday evening, June 19, when Hondo faces Pearsall at the PHS field.

A couple of weeks ago, Hondo’s baseball and softball Coach-Pitch All-Stars competed in an all-star tourney in Natalia. Hondo’s baseball team swept through the tourney undefeated to claim the championship. The softball team won its opener, but then fell in the next two contests of the double elimination event.
