During Medina County Commissioners Court meeting on Monday, June 15, County Judge Keith Lutz declared a local state of disaster for Medina County.
The declaration was made due to the threat of introduction or spread of New World screwworms, which the judge said he considers to be an imminent threat of disaster.
As he signed the disaster declaration, Judge Lutz noted Medina County Commissioners Court must meet no later than seven days following issuance of the local disaster declaration to ratify the it and approve its continuance or renewal
Commissioners Court will conduct a special meeting Monday, June 22, for that purpose.
The Texas Disaster Act of 1975 authorizes the presiding officer of the governing body of a political subdivision to declare a local state of disaster if they find that a disaster has occurred or is imminent.
The declaration activates recovery, mitigation, preparedness and response aspects of all local and interjurisdictional emergency management plans and authorizes aid and assistance.
