With this issue, the Hondo Anvil Herald is beginning its 140th year of service to Medina County.
Founded in 1886, the paper has been owned by just two families since the start of the 20th century.Â
Fletcher Davis bought the Castroville Anvil (founded 1886) and the Hondo Herald (founded 1890) in about 1900, consolidated the two, and it’s been going as the Anvil Herald without missing a week for the last century and a quarter.
It was purchased by William & Jerry Berger in June of 1946, and has remained in the Berger family for the last 80 years, with their youngest son (that would be me) serving as owner and publisher since 2013.
We hope you enjoy reading it every week. If you’re not a subscriber, call us at the number listed at the top right corner of the page. And if you have any kind of business to advertise here in Medina County, please give us a call.
