A large turnout of Castroville voters produced a change in the city’s mayoral office on Saturday.
Receiving just under 75% of the 525 total votes cast, Bruce Alexander won the election over incumbent Darrin Schroeder.
There was one official race in Hondo, for City Council, Place 5. Makenna Lange was elected to the position, after candidate Olivia Stone withdrew from the race after the ballots had been finalized. Lange won by a 42-3 count.
Mayor John McAnelly was also on the ballot, unopposed for a second term of office.
Two positions were on the ballot in the Medina Valley Independent School District. The two district boundaries cross the county line, and include voters in both Medina and Bexar Counties.
Incumbent Matt Castiglione edged Toby Castillo Walters by a 13-vote margin in the District 3 race, and in the unexpired term for District 1, Benito Juarez won by 10 votes over Al Anaya.
Suzanne Lee was unopposed in seeking the District 4 post, and was declared elected earlier this spring.
All candidates who filed for election in the Hondo ISD were unopposed, and also had been declared elected, canceling the district’s elections for this year. Incumbents Joel Gonzales and Blake Halbardier were the only candidates who filed for the two at-large HISD positions. Carey Frazier was unopposed in her bid for another term in District 3, and Ricky Ruiz, appointed to fill out the remainder of the first year of the District 1 seat, was the only candidate who filed to seek election to the position’s two remaining years.
