Owl hoops scrimmages at Pearsall Saturday

The Hondo girls’ basketball team – or portions thereof – will take the floor this Saturday, Oct. 30, for their first action of the season.

With about 15 players in the program during its first week of workouts, the Owls will go to a multi-team scrimmage in Pearsall.

Those program numbers will increase with the addition of sub-varsity volleyball players later this week. The team could be shorthanded for a few weeks with volleyball just now heading into the start of postseason, and with the Mighty Owl Band going to Area on Saturday (with the possibility of a trip to State as well). The Hondo girls are scheduled to visit Bandera Monday afternoon, Nov. 1, as well.

The Owls’ regular season is slated to open at home on Tuesday, Nov. 9, against Natalia.

Kaden English, Mallory Matthews and Sarah Windrow (pictured with Hondo golf coach Chad Kailipaka) were all medalists at the District 30-4A tournament this week, and will be advancing to regionals next month in Victoria.
