Girls finish 2nd in Devine meet

 

     Devine -- The Hondo varsity girls’ track team was the meet runner-up in the Warhorse Relays last Wednesday, March 20, in Devine. The Owls scored 102.5 points, with three first place individual finishes, while taking second in four others.

     The Hondo boys’ team finished fourth in the meet with 78 points, with first place finishes in both throws, along with a pair of seconds.

Devine was the runaway winner in the girls’ division, while the Warhorses won the boys’ division by a much closer margin over runner-up Pearsall.

     Senior Ashlyn Evans continued her strong year in the throwing events, taking first in both the shot put and discus, with marks of 33’9” and 115’9”.

     Sophomore Kristyn Ybarra earned the win in the 200-meter dash, in a time of 27.24, and was runner-up in three events: the 100, in 13.15, the long jump, going 15’9” and the triple jump, with a mark of 31’7”.

     Ybarra medaled in a fifth event as well, running the lead leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Dana Shaw, Zoie Floyd and Lizbeth Martinez ran a time of 4:29.59.

     On the boys’ side, Everett Adams again won both throws, with a shot put of 47’01/2” and a discus mark of 149’6”.

Neal Ramos was second in the 300-meter hurdles, in 43.64 seconds and Mason Barr was runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 12’0”. 

On Wednesday, March 27, the Owls attended the Blanco meet, held at Comfort High School while the Blanco track is being resurfaced.  Also in the meet are Canyon Lake, Ingram, Llano, Mason and Wimberley.

     The District 28-3A track and field meet is next Wednesday, April 3, at Natalia High School.
