D’Hanis runner advances to state


     Corpus Christi -- D’Hanis freshman Ryley Phillippe placed 13th on Monday, Nov. 9, in the Region IV-1A Cross Country Meet, and has earned the right to advance to the UIL State Meet in Round Rock on Monday, Nov. 23.

     She placed among the top ten runners in the region, once all team state qualifiers were removed from the mix.

     Her 13th place time was 14:16.11 on the two-mile course. 

     Team qualifiers among Region IV girls’ are Nueces Canyon, Moulton and McMullen County. Cherish Dunlap of Utopia was the individual regional champ with a time of 13:10.91.

     Start time for 1A girls at the state meet, which is held at Old Settlers Park, is 9 a.m.

     Phillippe is believed to be the first D’Hanis athlete to qualify for the state cross country meet.

     In the 2A division of the regional meet, held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Sabinal girls’ team placed 12th in the team standings.

     Jacelynn Vickers placed 50th for the Lady Jackets, in a time of 14:59.32, with Naomi Hidalgo coming in 52nd place, in 15:04.43. Also representing Sabinal at the regional meet were Karolina Navarro, Sierra Sandoval, Adriana Musquiz, Katelynn Sandoval and Madison Milam.
