Puente runs at state, Lytle teams 2nd & 3rd

 

     Round Rock -- D’Hanis senior cross country runner Jayden Puente competed Friday, Nov. 3, at the UIL State Meet, held at Old Settlers Park.

     Running in the 1A boys’ division, Puente placed 116th out of 146 runners, in a time of 20:35.2 on the 5K course. Utopia senior Luke Leavelle placed 54th, in 18:43.8. In the 1A girls’ division, sophomore Knisley Cox of Utopia was 113th out of 146, running a 14:43.2 on the two-mile course.

     In the 3A boys’ team standings, Lytle was state runner-up, placing behind Great Hearts-Northern Oaks of San Antonio. Lytle’s Abel Sanchez finished 19th overall, in 16:44.9, followed by Bryan Montes in 20th (16:46.2). Johnny Rey Alvarez finished 29th, in 17:04.5, Tristan Lopez was 34th in 17:09.3, Yandel Esquivel was 43rd, 17:20.3, Brandon Obando was 71st, 17:41.6, and Lucas Salazar, 81st, 17:55.5

     The Lytle girls placed third in the team standings at the 3A state meet, finishing behind meet champion Holliday and runner-up East Bernard. Frances Scotello was Lytle’s highest placing finisher, coming in 28th place, in 12:25.8. Klayre Cook placed 52nd, in 12:47.8; Samantha Mujica, 55th, 12:52.0; Vanessa Ayala, 67th, 13:03.7; Laleina Reveira, 81st, 13:16.7; Svetlana Lopez, 82nd, 13:17.3; and Addison Wagner. 91st, 13:21.3.
