Sabinal thrower returns to Austin for third year


     Kingsville -- Sabinal junior Kamryn Chapman will be headed back to the state track meet for the third time in the 2A girls’ discus. This year, she also qualified for state in the shot put during the Region IV-2A meet, April 26-27, at Javelina Stadium at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The 2A girls’ discus is at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, with the shot put scheduled for 1:30 p.m., at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.

     Chapman won the discus with a throw of 130’0”, a full 11 feet ahead of the runner-up. She was second in the shot put, with a mark of 36’9”, just three inches out of first place. 

     Kenneth Cole represented Sabinal in the 2A boys’ sprints, placing fifth with a time of 11.24 in the 100-meter dash and placing 6th in the 200, in 23.95.

     In the 2A girls’ regional prelims, freshman JC Vickers took part in the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Nadia Castañon participated in the 100-meter hurdles, and Sarah Alejandro competed in the long jump.
