Girls split matches in season’s final week
Concluding the season with two home matches, the Hondo girls’ soccer team picked up a win over Fox Tech on a chilly Friday, March 11, at Barry Field.
The Owls got a 3-0 win over the Buffaloes, following that with a season-ending 3-1 loss to Somerset on Senior Day.
Hondo winds up its first-ever soccer season with a 3-18 mark, and a 3-11 record in District 27-4A.
Senior Camryn Cary scored all three Hondo goals against Fox, scoring on a corner kick which the Buffaloes’ goalkeeper deflected into the net. She scored on a free kick and later added a breakaway goal.
In Monday’s final game of the year, Hondo’s goal came from Ximena Rocha.
Uvalde, Pleasanton, La Vernia and Somerset have claimed the league’s four playoff spots.
Bi-district matches will be next weekend, March 24-26.
