Keilman’s long jump is Owls’ lone win at MV

Castroville -- In their first meet of the 2015 season, the Hondo track and field teams traveled to the Panther Relays, hosted by Medina Valley High School, on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The Hondo varsity boys’ team finished in ninth place, scoring 44 points, while the girls’ team paced eighth, scoring 19 points.

La Vernia was the winner in a tightly-contested boys division, tallying 85 points, and edging Eagle Pass by two. Del Rio was a runaway winner in the girls’ division, with 160 points.

The only first place finish of the day for the Owls came in the varsity boys’ long jump, where Willie Keilman went 21’0.5”.

In other events:

100m dash: Willie Keilman, 3rd, 11.21;

400m dash: Enrique Morales, 2nd, 53.07; Santiago Rodriguez, 6th, 54.35;

4x400m relay: Enrique Morales, Santiago Rodriguez, Willie Keilman, Javier Alfaro, 4th, 3:36.01;

Long jump: Javier Alfaro, 5th, 19’1.5”;

Triple jump: Rylan Crisp, 4th 10’4.5”

Pole vault: Carson Stoner, 3rd, 12’6”.

Varsity girls

The Hondo varsity girls’ scored points in each of the three relays.

4x100m relay: Kristen Contreras, Andi Theis, Tammy Ramirez, Krisann Bendele, 6th, 54.27.

4x200m relay: Anhai Renteria, Andi Theis, Tammy Ramirez, Krisann Bendele, tie 5th, 1:55.15.

4x400m relay: Anhai Renteria, Andi Theis, Gabby Ontiveros, Krisann Bendele, 6th, 4:27.45.

Shot put: Lucy Mendoza, 3rd, 31’0”;

Triple jump: Andi Theis, 3rd, 32’8.5”
