Richard C. Aguilar

Richard C. Aguilar, age 51, of Devine passed away in San Antonio, Tuesday, October 23, 1950.  Mr. Aguilar was a member of the American Trucking Association and the O.T.R. Truckers Association.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Friday, October 26, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

James F. Barta 

James F. Barta, age 70, of Lytle and formerly of Natalia, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001. Memorials be made to the American Heart Association, South Texas Region, P.O. Box 29306, San Antonio, TX 78229. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Natalia. Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hallettsville. 

Jimmie Coldwell Beck

Jimmie Coldwell Beck, age 74, of D'Hanis passed away October 15, 2001 in San Antonio.  He was born in Edna, August 29, 1927.  Mr. Beck retired from the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Sgt.  after 23 years of service.  He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father W. Stiles officiating.  Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Full military burial honors were provided by the USMC.

Milton Joe Bohmfalk

Milton Joe Bohmfalk, age 82, of Katy , formerly of Houston, passed away October 18, 2001. He was born in Hondo on September 18, 1919, and moved to Houston in the early 1940's.  In 1942, he joined the Army and was a Corporal in the 744th Military Police Battalion.  He returned to Houston after leaving the military and began working at Masury Paint Co., where he retired after 30 years of service in outside sales.  Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 20, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy with Rev. Chad McMillan officiating.  Graveside service followed at 1 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, in Schulenburg.

Cindy Kay Book

Cindy Kay Book, age 41, of Castroville, passed away October 20, 2001.  She was born at Lackland Air Force Base, July 23, 1960.  Mrs. Book was a beautician and a member of Medina Valley Christian Worship.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeremiah Sibley and Rev. Billy Patrick officiating.  Interment followed in Castroville Community Cemetery.

Lawrence G. Evans Jr.

Lawrence G. Evans Jr., age 71, of Devine passed away, October 25, 2001, in San Antonio,  He was born in Clinton, AR, August 24, 1930.  Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked as an electrician with Dilley Electric.  Graveside service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 28, at Evergreen Cemetery led by Jim Whitt and Dan Harvey.

Pearl Victoria Flathouse

Pearl Victoria Flathouse, age 86, went to be with her Lord on October 13, 2001, in Castroville.  She was born March 23, 1915, in Castroville.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a charter member of the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 Auxiliary. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo, pitch, poker, dominoes and Yahtzee.  Pearlie also loved to fix baked goods for her neighbors and friends, which earned her the nickname "Cookie Lady".  Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway, at 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Julian Garcia

Julian Garcia, age 88, of D'Hanis passed away in San Antonio, October 11, 2001.  He was born in Hondo, February 16, 1913.  Mr. Garcia was a retired inspector/patchier of vitreous china.  Rosary was a 7 p.m. Monday October 15, at Guinn-Horger Chapel.  Mass was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 16 at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Eduardo D. Gomez

Eduardo D. Gomez, age 84, entered rest October 25, 2001.  He was born in Sabinal on January 20, 1917.  Rosary was recited on Monday, October 29, at 7 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Chapels.  Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 30, at 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with interment following in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Arnold Stevens Griffin 

Arnold Stevens Griffin, age 85, of Devine, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in San Antonio. Memorials be made to South Texas Children's Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78140. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church of Devine. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery. 

Cordelia R. Hector

Cordelia R. Hector of Devine passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at the age of 105.  She was born in Leakey, Friday, February 28, 1896.  On November 2, 1993, Mrs. Cordelia Hector, at the age of 97, became a resident of Colonial Park Nursing Home in Devine.  She was able to maintain a high level of independence at the nursing home until the last eight months of her life.  She was a 105 year old lady with a lot of grit and energy. She read her Bible daily for almost the entire eight years of her stay.  She was an inspiration to all the staff and residents.  Graveside service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 27, at Uvalde Cemetery, Uvalde, with Rev. Everett Boyce Jr. officiating.

Robert Herrera Sr.

Robert Herrera Sr., of Waco passed away Saturday, October 25, 2001, in Hondo, at the age of 52 years.  Robert was born in San Antonio, July 25, 1949.  Robert served his country in the U.S. Army.  He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was a member of the American Legion in San Antonio.  He worked at Raytheon in Waco, as an aircraft manufacturing technician and previously with Dee Howard in San Antonio.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, October 29, at Dawson Funeral Chapel with Jose Mares leading the prayers, Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Einer Ochoa officiating.  Burial followed at Hondo Cemetery in the Guadalupe Section.

CARROLL S. JONES SR. 

Carroll S. Jones Sr., age 85, of Belton passed away Oct. 1, 2001, in a Belton nursing home. He was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Elmendorf, to Capt. Edmond D. and Maude (Swift) Jones. He grew up in Hondo and graduated from Hondo High School, attended Schreiner College, winning 1st place at the TJCC state track meet in high hurdles, and then attended the University of Texas. He served as a Master Sergeant with the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Dossman Funeral Home. Burial: Resthaven Cemetery, south of Belton. 

Sandra Fay Keylich

Sandra Fay Keylich, age 54, of Devine passed away October 16, 2001, in Medina County.  She was born in Appleton, WI, November 14, 1946.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, October 19, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clifford Kuykendall officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Donald T. Kirkton

Donald T. Kirkton, age 79, of Devine passed away Sunday, October 14, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born January 16, 1922, in Cridley, IL.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating.  Interment followed in Sand Branch Cemetery.

Ervin Edgar Leinweber

Ervin Edgar Leinweber, age 85, of Hondo passed away October 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born in Hondo, November 9, 1915.  Mr. Leinweber was a foreman in aircraft engine repair for the civil service and the owner/operator of a barber shop. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, October 22, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Rev. Bill Nogues and Rev. Gene Tone officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, WOW Section.

Marcelino D. Martinez

Marcelino D. Martinez, age 73, of Castroville passed away October 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born in LaCoste, April 13, 1928.  Mr. Martinez was a maintenance worker for Medina Valley ISD before his retirement.  Mass of Resurrection was Sunday, October 21, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway.  Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Monday, October 22, led by Deacon George White.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Refugia M. Martinez

Refugia M. Martinez, age 80, of Lytle passed away Friday, October 26, 2001 in Poteet.  She was born in Laredo on April 2, 1921. Funeral service was at 9 a.m. Monday, October 29, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Juan Flores/John Molina officiating.  Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Paul Anthony Mendoza

Paul Anthony Mendoza, age 42, of Devine passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001. He was born in Hondo, September 19, 1959.  He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Margaret Auvergne Curnutt Mueller

Margaret Auvergne Curnutt Mueller, age 63, of Castroville passed away October 30, 2001. She was born January 28, 1938 in Strawberry Plains, TN. Margaret graduated from Incarnate Word College with a degree in nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked at the Castroville Hospital for approximately 20 years before it closed in the 1970's.  She then worked for the Veteran's Hospital in Kerrville for six months before being transferred to the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, where she worked for 12 years until she retired due to health problems.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Society (she was a past president), Catholic Life Castroville branch #17 and Hermann Sons Castroville Lodge #71.  Rosary recited Friday, November 2, at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Mass of Resurrection.  Both services were officiated by Fr. Jim Conway at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment followed the Mass in the St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.

Margie Beth Newbrough

Margie Beth Newbrough, age 68, of Bigfoot, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born in Donna on December 24, 1932.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  Funeral Service was at 2 p.m., Monday, October 29, at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor John Bishop officiating.  Interment followed in Longview Cemetery.

Gloria Rymers Pimentel

Gloria Rymers Pimentel, age 54, passed away October 23, 2001.  She was born in Castroville on March 2, 1947.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.  She had worked as a licensed vocational nurse at the Baptist Medical Center and Harvest Care Center of Medina in Castroville.  Rosary was recited at 6:45 P.M., Thursday, October 25, followed by Mass of Resurrection.  Both services were officiated by Fr. Jim Conway at St. Louis Catholic Church.  The family had a private graveside service to inter her cremains in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Theofil "Phil" Edmond Podevyn 

Theofil "Phil" Edmond Podevyn, age 76, of Castroville, passed away Oct. 2, 2001 in Castroville. He was born Aug. 14, 1925 in San Antonio, to the late Sylvain and Florine DeBacker Podevyn. He was a farmer, a member of the Board of Directors at Community National Bank in Castroville, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a charter member of the Belgium American Club. Mass of Resurrection: Saturday, Oct. 6, at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment: St. Louis Garden Mausoleum, Castroville. 

Mario G. Quintanilla 

Mario G. Quintanilla, age 70, of Uvalde, passed away Oct. 3, 2001, of complications after a long battle with cancer.  He was born in Hondo, Sept. 11, 1931. Mario began working with Tomas Santos Electric in Hondo in 1951 and found he liked electrical work.  A short time later he began his own  business and in 1960 he opened two electrical businesses in Uvalde.  Several years later, he sold the businesses and moved his family to California. While working for American Home Foods as chief electrician, he took night classes and earned an Electrical Engineer degree in 1970 and an Industrial and Commercial Power Distribution degree with Pacific Gas & Electric both from the University of Davis.  The family moved back to Uvalde in 1971 where he again opened Mario's Electric which is now run by his son and daughter-in-law, Mario and Agnes.  He completed a Basic Peace Officer course at SWTJC in 1983 and was a member of the Uvalde Sheriff's Reserves.  In 1999 he joined the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol until his illness forced him to resign.  He loved spending time at the area rivers and enjoyed building 4X4 trucks.  Rosary and Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at St. John Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.. 

Robert Ervin Ralph 

Robert Ervin Ralph, age 79, of Yancey, passed away Oct. 6, 2001. He was born June 15, 1922, in Huntington Park, CA, to Ervin and Bessie Ralph. He served in the Navy in WWII. Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Yancey Cemetery. 

Pedro Ramirez

Pedro Ramirez, age 96, of Devine passed away Monday, October 22, 2001 in San Antonio.  He was born in Mexico, June 12, 1905.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating.  Interment was in Moore Catholic Cemetery, Moore.

Sherry Howard Reddick

Sherry Howard Reddick, age 46, of Uvalde died October 30, 2001 at Southwest Texas Methodist hospital in San Antonio following a brief illness.  She was born August 18, 1955, in Carrizo Spring, to James Carroll and betty June Rouse Howard. She grew up in Carrizo Springs and was a graduate of Sul Ross State University and was employed by Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District as a first-grade teacher at Anthony Elementary School at the time of her death. Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 2, in the chapel of Leonard Funeral Home in Carrizo Springs. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

William 'Billy' George Reichert

William 'Billy' George Reichert, age 61, of Castroville passed away October 17, 2001, at his home.  He was born June 2, 1940 in San Antonio.  Billy was a farmer and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Society  and the Belgium-American Club. Visitation was Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.  Mass of Resurrection was concelebrated by Fr. Jim Conway and Fr. Mike Horan at 7 p.m. on Thursday October 18, 2001.  Rosary was led by Fr. Jim Conway and Msgr. Lawrence Stuebben, Friday, October 19, 2001 at 10 a.m.. Both Mass and Rosary were held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Entombment followed the Rosary in St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.

Thelma K. Risinger

Thelma K. Risinger, age 83, of San Antonio, formerly of Devine, passed away October 17, 2001 in San Antonio.  She was born on June 8, 1918 in San Antonio.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine.  Interment was in Bandera Cemetery, Bandera.

Rubelina Rodriguez

Rubelina Rodriguez, age 68, of Devine passed away Monday, October 29, 2001. She was born in Devine, December 6, 1932.  Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. Friday, November 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating, Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Hobby Christian Schuehle

Hobby Schuehle, age 85, passed away on October 23, 2001.  He was born on September 14, 1916 at Storm Hill near Quihi.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo.  On December 11, 1941, just four days after the attack on Pearl harbor, Hobby entered military service.  He was discharged from military service on December 22, 1945, and returned to Hondo.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, followed by interment in Quihi Cemetery.

Reagan Charles Schulte

Reagan Charles Schulte, age 34, of San Antonio, passed away October 22, 2001. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on August 21, 1967. Reagan was an employee of Time Warner Cable. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 25,, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

David Fred "Scotty" Scott

David Fred "Scotty" Scott, age 67, of Austin lost his life to cancer, October 28, 2001.  he was born August 10, 1934, in Uvalde.  He was a dispatcher at Southside Wrecker Service for 13 years.  He loved his job very much and made many friends, he was very devoted to his job.  He had a great boss who he also considered his best-friend. Fred will always be remembered by family and friends. He loved fishing and reading. (No burial information listed)

Isidra "Lucky" Thaxton

Isidra "Lucky" Thaxton, 69, of Luling passed away Oct. 8, 200l. Born May 15, 1932, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Alejandro A. and Enriquetta (Gamez) Guedea. She and Bill Thaxton were married Feb. 15, 1953, in Henderson. Funeral service: Thursday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. at O'Bannon Funeral Home, in Luling. Rosary: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo. Funeral Mass: Saturday, 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. 

Astolfo Vela

Astolfo Vela, age 68, died October 22, 2001, in Hondo.  Services with Nieto Dickey & Lopez Funeral Directors of Laredo.

Hazel Spivey Wiechmann

Hazel Spivey Wiechmann passed away on October 24, 2001 in San Antonio.  She was born Hazel Ione Spivey on May 31, 1924 in Macdona. She attended several high schools and graduated from LaCoste High School in 1941. She then attended San Antonio Business School and took employment with the Quirk & Company Insurance Agency where she remained from 1942 until 1951. She later became an accomplished homemaker.  Funeral service was at 1pm on October 26 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Monica Flores Ybarra

Monica Flores Ybarra, age 60, of D'Hanis passed away in Hondo, October 13, 2001.  She was born in Yancey May 4, 1941.  Mrs. Ybarra was a homemaker.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, October 17, at Iglesia del Nuevo Testamento with Rev. Rudolfo Rodriguez officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
