Taylor Anne Brewton

Taylor Anne Brewton, age four, of Frisco passed away November 26, 2001, in Dallas after a battle with leukemia.  She was born on July 29, 1997 in Plano to Chris and Larissa Brewton.  According to a family member she was a precious, loving little girl who fought an incredibly strong and courageous battle with leukemia.  Graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 30, in Jones Cemetery in Utopia.  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29 in St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano with Rev. Kathryn Magee and Rev. Doug Meyer officiating.

Roy Clayburne Burleson

Roy Clayburne Burleson, age 43, of Devine passed away Friday, November 30, 2001.  He was born in El Paso, July 4, 1958.  Mr. Burleson was a member of First United Methodist Church.  Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 3, at First Baptist Church, Devine, with Rev. Everett Boyce Jr. and Rev. Glen Connell officiating. Interment was at 3 p.m. at Vance Cemetery, Vance.

Eloise Carroll

Eloise Carroll, age 74, of Tybee Island, GA, passed away Monday, November 12, 2001, in Memorial Health University Medical Center. Mrs. Carroll was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church on Tybee Island.  She belonged to the Friendship Club, Y.E.E.P.I.E.S, and was an avid volunteer at the Marine Science Center on Tybee Island.  A private funeral service was held at Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church, Tybee Island. Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avalon, GA.

Julian Anthony Cerda

Julian Anthony Cerda, two month old infant son of Joseph and Sheila Wilkinson Cerda of Atascosa - LaCoste, passed away November 28, 2001, at home. He was born September 17, 2001 in San Antonio.  Mass of the Angels was offered by Fr. John Mannion, Friday, November 30, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. Interment followed in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

S.W. 'Bud' Chapman

S.W. 'Bud' Chapman passed away at his residence in Fair Oaks Ranch on November 5, 2001.  He was born on March 2, 1920 in Poteet. He was a member of the Army Air Corps in World War II, serving as a waist gunner in a B-17 before being shot down over Germany. He spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner of war until being liberated by Gen. Patton's army on April 29, 1945. He was a member of the Alzafar Shrine Golf Unit, the Boerne Masonic Lodge #897, and the Scottish Rite. he and his wife were both active golfers.  A memorial service was held on Friday, November 9 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Boerne, Bubba Stahl and Robert Richarz officiating.

Faye Echart

Faye Echart of Hondo passed away in Medina Community Hospital on Friday, November 9, 2001, at the age of 91.  She was born June 8, 1910, in Enloe.  She moved to Hondo from Commerce in 1982. In July she moved from Wiemers Mobile Home Park to Harvest Care Nursing Home where she lived until the time of her death.  Graveside service was held on Monday, November 12, at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Doris Breiten Gallaway

Doris Breiten Gallaway, age 76, of San Antonio passed away Thursday, November 29, 2001.  She was born October 1, 1925.  Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Monday, December 3, at Porter Loring North Chapel with Pastor Marilyn Lange officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

David B. Gonzales Sr.

David B. Gonzales Sr., age 86, of Natalia passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2001, in Hondo.  He was born in La Blanca, on January 3, 1915.  Mr. Gonzales was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. Friday, November 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating.  Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jonathan 'Jon' Wade Greene

Jonathan 'Jon' Wade Greene, age 41, of Castroville, passed away November 3, 2001, near Waverly, TN. Jon was born June 21, 1960, at Cannon Air Force Base, NM. Jon was a chief warrant officer in the United States Army assigned to the 1-101st Aviation Regiment where he flew the Apache Long-Bow.  he also served four years in the United States Marine Corps and 14 years in the United States Army, with his last duty station being Ft. Campbell, KY.  Jon was a member of the Medina Valley High School class of '79.  Visitation was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 10, with a rosary led by Chaplain Col. James E. Sanner. Mass of Resurrection was at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, November 11, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church concelebrated by Fr. Tim Vakoe, Fr. John Mannion and Msgr. Thomas Palmer, Interment followed the mass in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in LaCoste, with full military honors.

Frtiz Anton Hartmann

Fritz Anton Hartmann of Quihi passed away November 15, 2001, at the age of 84.  He was born June 9, 1917, and raised in the New Fountain-Quihi area and attended school in New Fountain.  In his early days, Fritz played and sang in a country/western band.  He later drove cattle trucks for Milton Heyen. He then started farming, ranching and carpentry, eventually working for and retiring from Universal Rundle Corp.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi with Pastor Steven Schur officiating.  Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

Marvin James

Marvin James, age 87, of Castroville passed away November 27, 2001. He was born December 13, 1913 in Amarillo. Mr. James was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville.  He joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country during World War II.  After leaving the Air Force, he worked in Corpus Christi and then worked at Kelly AFB as an electronic systems analyst.  Marvin and his wife, Lera owned and operated the Rainbow Theatre in Castroville during the 1970's. He was a former Castroville Municipal Judge, a Mason, a Shriner, member of the Weiss-Wurzbach American Legion Post 460, and former Cub Schout leader. He loved to restore antique cars.   Visitation held noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2001. Funeral service was at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Anne Kolmeier and Rev. Mark Lundquist officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, with Masonic services conducted by Les Teague, Devine 590 AF&AM.

Mary Kilough

Mary Kilough, age 85, of Hondo passed away on Friday, November 30, 2001. She was born in Beeville.  She was an outstanding Avon representative and in the President's Club for over 20 years as well as a member of the VFW.  The funeral service was held Saturday, December 8, at 1 p.m. at Vaughan's Funeral Home, Boerne.  Burial was in the Boerne Cemetery.

Jewel King Kincaid

Jewel King Kincaid, age 92, of Sabinal passed away, November 15, 2001, in St. Luke's Baptist Hospital.  She was born at Meeks Ranch in the Covey Chapel Community west of Dilley on October 22, 1909.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 17, at Sabinal Methodist Church with Rev. Debby Lake officiating.  Interment followed in Sabinal Cemetery.

Delbert Land

Delbert Land, age 63, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2001, at his residence.  Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with Rev. David Priem officiating.  Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

George Franklin Lewis

George Franklin Lewis, age 79, of Devine passed away, Wednesday, November 21, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa.  Mr. Lewis was a member of First United Methodist Church.. (No Burial Information Listed)

Lorene Martin Love

Lorene Martin Love passed away November 21, 2001, in Sinton Manor Nursing Home in Sinton after a long illness. She was born in Hondo, July 22, 1915.   Mrs. Love was a part of all the women's church activities including Sunday school, the children's department and Vacation Bible School. She was also chairman of the food committee for 17 years.  Funeral service was held Saturday, November 24, at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating.

Wesley R. Mann

Wesley  R. Mann, age 82, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio, November 9, 2001.  He was born July 10, 1919, in the home in which he lived all his life. He attended school at Redus about three miles from his home.  He was a good student and graduated from Devine High School in 1937.  He attended St. Mary's University for two years.  He then took a course in Aeronautics and went to work in 1941 for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in San Diego, CA.  In 1944 he was drafted into the United States Army and served at the rank of Tech Sergeant in the Philippines during World War II.  Upon his discharge in 1946 he returned to Hondo where the Manns made their home.   Wesley was a farmer and rancher. Wesley was a good swimmer and taught his children as well as other cousins and friends to swim in the Hondo Creek.  He was a perfectionist in anything he did and was always ready to be there if someone needed help.  Rosary was at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.

Avonne Marie 'Bonnie' Menk

Avonne Marie 'Bonnie' Menk, age 78, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio, November 7, 2001.  She was born in San Antonio, January 5, 1923. Rosary was at 12:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

George Henry Moore

George Henry Moore, age 64, of Camp Verde passed away in a Kerrville hospital, November 3, 2001. He was born in Uvalde, June 16, 1937.  Mr. Moore was a former mayor of Sabinal and the first president of the Uvalde County EMS.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. , Tuesday, November 6, at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel in Sabinal. Interment followed in Waresville Cemetery with Rev. Robert Richarz officiating.

Clara Verstuyft Persyn

Clara Verstuyft Persyn, age 86, of Castroville passed away November 27, 2001.  She was born on January 11, 1915.   Visitation 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001 and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, November 30.  Rosary 7P.M. Thursday, November 29, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home led by Fr. Jim Conway.  Funeral mass held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment  followed in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Katherine E. Redden

Katherine E. Redden, age 95, of Utopia passed away November 17, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Louisville, KY, July 5, 1906.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, at Utopia Methodist Church with Rev. Kent Kepler officiating.  Interment was in Jones Cemetery, Utopia.

Mary Ruth Sadler

Mary Ruth Sadler, age 68, of Castroville passed away November 21, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born on March 17, 1933, in Greensboro, NC.  Mary Ruth was a homemaker.  Graveside service was held at 1:45 p.m. Monday, November 26, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Rev. Jane Florence officiating.

Pedro C. Saldivar Jr.

Pedro C. Saldivar Jr., age 49, passed away November 1, 2001 at his residence in LaPryor. He was born April 3, 1952 in Uvalde.  Funeral service was at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 4, at Templo Gethsemani, La Pryor, with Rev. Jesus E. Martinez officiating. Interment followed in La Pryor Cemetery.

Ruth L. Satterfield

Ruth L. Satterfield, age 93, passed away November 14, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  She was born June 7, 1908 in Ennis.  She was reared in Ennis and was a graduate of Ennis High School.   In 1980 she moved to Castroville.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ennis, Hermann Sons, Hondo Garden Club and the UMW.  Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, in Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, with Rev. Glenn Jones officiating.

Erwin William Steger

Erwin William Steger, age 91, of San Antonio, passed away November 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born January 16, 1910 in Richland.  Erwin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville and he was a former tax collector for Southwest High School.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Friday, November 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville with Rev Anne Kolmeier officiating.  Interment followed in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castrovillle. 

Candelaria Torres

Candelaria Torres, age 81, passed away in Hondo on November 4, 2001.  She was born February 2, 1920 in D'Hanis.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2001. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, with both services at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section, Fr. Jeff Pehl officiated all services.

Carolyn Margo Trombley

Carolyn Margo Trombley, age 58, of Hondo passed away Friday, November 30, 2001.  She was born December 13, 1942 in San Antonio.  Rosary was 7 P.M. Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at Dawson Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was at 1 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Indercio Castillo Villa Sr.

Indercio C. Villa, Sr., age 61, of Hondo passed away November 21, 2001.  He was born in Hondo on November 5, 1940.   He worked for Jack Winkler Motors for 35 years  as an automobile mechanic.  He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.   Rosary and vigil service was held Sunday November 5, at Dawson Funeral Chapel lead by Albert "Gegi" Villa and Juventina Correa.  Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in the Guadalupe section of the Hondo Cemetery.

Presiliano R. 'Pancho' Villa

Presiliano R. 'Pancho' Villa, of Cottonwood Falls, KS, age 59, died Saturday, November 24,2001, at newman Regional Health, Emporia, KS.  He was born in Hondo, on October 22, 1942.  Mr. Villa retired from the Santa Fe Railroad as a machine operator in 1993, after 20 years of service. He was a member of Victory Fellowship in Emporia and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Local 2405. Funeral Service was at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, at the Flint Hills Community Church in Kansas with Pastor James Kegin of Victory Fellowship officiating.  Funeral mass, in Hondo, 10 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Ina Melton Ward

Ina Melton Ward, age 82, of Hondo passed away November 10, 2001. She was born in Brady.  Ina was raised and lived most of her life in Yancey and Hondo.  She graduated from Yancey High School in 1936 and attended the University of Texas in Austin.  She was a homemaker while the children were young and later worked for the County Tax Office for 16 years. Her favorite pastimes were family gatherings, cooking, singing, playing games and cards with all of the children and grandchildren.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2001, at First Baptist Church, Hondo, with Rev. John McKay officiating, Interment followed in Yancey Cemetery, Yancey.

Thomas E. Weisinger Jr.

Thomas E. Weisinger Jr. of Devine passed away on November 12, 2001 at age 91. He was born August 21, 1910.  Tom, as he was known to most, worked for Shell Oil Co. for 33 years and retired in 1968. He loved doing things outdoors, gardening and yard work, hunting, fishing, and later in life, he even learned to play golf.  He was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Devine and served his church in many capacities: yard work, ushering, serving on numerous committees, and even making and serving coffee to the Sunday School classes for over 35 years. He was also famous for his "delicious" biscuits he made for the monthly men's prayer breakfast.  He was a 50 year member of Devine Lodge #590 A.F. & A.M. where he served very actively in many offices. He was a Past Master and taught Masonry to many, many members as long as he was able.  He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Devine Chapter #43.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 14, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home.  Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home with Sam Cable, Tom's Nephew, officiating and Rev. Everett Boyce assisting.  Interment and Masonic burial service, under the auspices of Devine Lodge #590 A.F. & A.M., followed at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Jessie Wilkins

Jessie Jennings Loman Wilkins, age 91, of Sabinal passed away, November 1, 2001, at Community Care Nursing Home in Hondo. She was born in Winchell, March 20, 1910.  Graveside service was November 4, in Waresville Cemetery with George Keelin officiating. 

Bernice Ambrozine Rihn Wurzbach

Bernice Ambrozine Rihn Wurzbach, age 86,a native of Castroville and a resident  of Fort Worth and Arlington passed away November 24, 2001.  She was born May 25, 1915, in Castroville.  Visitation was held 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2001. Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2001led by Fr. Jim Conway. Mass of Christian Burial was a 10 a.m. Monday, December 3, celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway.  Both services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment  followed in St. Louis Cemetery.

Larry J. Zerr

Larry J. Zerr, age 64, passed away November 16, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born May 20, 1937, in Hondo. Larry worked at the D'Hanis Brick Yard, Southern Pacific Railroad, Medina Base, Pantex, General Dynamics and Kelly AFB.  he went to work at Kelly in January 1968, and worked there until he retired in February 1999.  He was on security police duty when the first C-5 Galaxy landed and when the first shuttle arrived on a 747, and was honored to meet three U.S. presidents arriving at Kelly AFB.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home with Brother Jim Grant of Harmony Baptist Church of San Antonio officiating.  Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, NE Annex, D'Hanis.
