Hunting season now open

Hunting season opened with a bang yesterday north of U.S. 90 as dawn lit the sky along with dove hunters seeking their prey.

The Central Zone is the area north of U.S. 90. Open season is Wed., Sept. 1-Sun., Oct. 24, and Sat., Dec. 25-Sun., Jan. 9, 2011. Daily bag limit is 15, with no more than two white-tipped doves; possession limit is 30.

South of U.S. 90 and northwest of IH-35 is in the Special White-winged Dove Area which opens Saturday and runs through Sunday, Sept. 4-5, then again Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 11-12, , noon-sunset only, both weekends.

Regular season opens Fri., Sept. 17-Tues., Oct. 31, 2010, and Sat., Dec. 25, 2010-Wed., Jan. 14, 2011. Bag limit: 15 white-winged, mourning and white-tipped doves, to include no more than 4 mourning doves and 2 white-tipped doves.

The South Zone is southeast of IH 35; dates are Fri., Sept. 17-Wed., Nov. 3, and Sat., Dec. 25, -Sun., Jan. 18, 2011. Daily bag limit is 15, with no more than two white-tipped doves; possession limit is 30.
