Phil Aelvoet, age 80, passed Sunday, June 4, 2006. A Vigil Service was held on Tuesday, June 6, and the Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 7, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes. Interment followed in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No. 2.

Milton Theodor Balzen, was born April 3, 1914, in Castroville. Milton was called to Our Lord in heaven June 27, 2006, in Hondo. Visitation Thursday, June 29, 7 to 9 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo. Funeral service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, on Friday, June 30, at 10 a.m. Burial at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, Hondo

John L. Banning, age 96, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in Smithville. He was born Feb. 16, 1910. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 10, in the Christian Faith Center in Dilley. Interment was in Dilley Cemetery.

Annie Brucks Bendele, age 82, passed away on June 21, 2006, while at Regency Village Care Center in Austin. She was born in Quihi, on February 14, 1924. Visitation was at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24, and the Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Burial followed in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Elmo William Bendele, age 96, passed away on
Friday, June 2, 2006, at his residence in Cibolo. He was born on January 28, 1910, in Medina County. Funeral Service was held Monday, June 5, at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel, in Schertz. Graveside service and interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, San Antonio.

Ann Burnett Brister, age 93, of Castroville passed away June 29, 2006, in Castroville. Ann was born March 13, 1913, in Gonzales County. Memorial service held on Monday, July 10, at 12:00 noon at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville The Tondre-Guinn Chapel.

At the age of 20, Robert “Bob” B. Brown began a long, successful career in the automotive business, eventually owning five dealerships with nine franchises in four cities. Brown, 72, passed away Friday, June 30, 2006, in a San Antonio hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born April 21, 1934, in Norfolk, VA. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, at First Baptist Church, 308 W. Hondo in Devine. Graveside service and interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Lorenza Mendoza Cuellar of Hondo, passed away on June 20, 2006, at the age of 80. She was born September 5, 1925, in Hondo. The Rosary was Wednesday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Funeral Service was Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial followed at the Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

William “Bill” Dowda, age 71, of Castroville passed away June 28, 2006. William was born Sept. 10, 1934, in San Antonio. A memorial service was held at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville, on Monday, July 3.

Kenneth “Kenny” Ersch, age 50, of Fredericksburg suffered a heart attack and died on Sunday, July 2, 2006. Ersch served as Hondo Owl Band director for several years. A memorial service held Thursday, July 7, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 110 East San Antonio, in Fredericksburg

Eunice Heath Fowler, age 98, passed away June 2, 2006. She was born Nov. 4, 1907. Funeral service was held Monday, June 5, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Israel Galindo, age 14, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006, in an automobile accident in which his uncle, Amador Salazar of San Angelo, also died. Israel was born in San Angelo, Aug. 2, 1991. He recently graduated from 8th grade at D’Hanis. He is survived by his parents, George and Nellie Salazar Galindo; brother, Ryan Galindo; and sister, Shaila Galindo, all of D’Hanis; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A Rosary was recited, followed by Funeral Mass, Tuesday, June 27, 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment was in San Francisco Cemetery, D’Hanis.

Martin A. Garcia, age 97, of Hondo, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at the age of 97. He was born Nov. 11, 1908, in Hondo. Rosary was recited Wednesday, June 14, and the Funeral Service was held Thursday, June 15, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Preston Gearld Gohmert, age 79, of La Coste, passed away June 26, 2006, in Castroville. Preston was born Dec. 19, 1926. Funeral service was held Wednesday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment followed at Castroville Community Cemetery, Castroville.

Maria Angelea Gonzalez, 73, of Devine and formerly of Moore, passed away Friday, June 16, 2006 in Lytle. Rosary recited in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 21, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devine. Interment followed at Moore Catholic Cemetery, Moore.

Dalton Leonard Hebert, Jr. of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2006, at the age of 70. He was born March 26, 1936, in Monroe, LA. A private Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 21, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Elizabeth K. Ibarcena, age 57, passed away, Saturday, June 3, 2006. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 5, 2006, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Lytle.

Freda Mae Johns, age 86, of Sullivan, IL, passed away June 11, 2006, at Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan. Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Coleridge, NE. Funeral service Thursday, June 15, 6 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Corine Tschirhart Mann, lovingly known as "Mamoo" by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, age 93, of Castroville passed away June 8, 2006, in Castroville. Corine was born Feb. 27, 1913. The Mass of Resurrection was held Sunday, June 11, and the Rosary was recited Monday, June 12, at 10 a.m., both at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Daniel Fred Menk of Hondo passed away on June 21, 2006, at the age of 84. He was born July 4, 1921, in San Antonio. Rosary was recited Saturday, June 24, at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Jackie Van Zandt Mutz, age 47, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2006. Visitation was held Sunday, June 25, from 3 until 9 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Funeral service was held Monday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. T. Glenn Young officiating. Interment followed in Sand Branch Cemetery.

Naomi Irene Nelson, age 80, of Devine passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006. Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 20, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.

James Robert “Jim” Newton of Yancey, age 58, passed away June 12, 2006. He was born Aug. 21, 1947, in Houston. Funeral service was Thursday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at the Yancey United Methodist Church, with interment at the Yancey Cemetery.

Ruby Velma Bendele Pan-coast, age 88, of Houston passed away June 26, 2006. She was born on December 12, 1917, in Dunlay. Funeral service was Saturday, July 1, in the Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home chapel. Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, Houston

Gerald Lynn “Jerry” Rock, a native son of Hondo, died on June 23, 2006, in Marengo, Illinois, losing his 15-month battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Hondo, on July 14, 1948. A celebration of his life was held July 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at Mary-ville Academy, Des Plaines, IL. His family in Texas will honor his memory in a Memorial Mass on his birthday, Friday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 13715 Riggs Rd., Helotes.

Santos María Urrabazo Rodríguez, aged 90, of D’Hanis, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2006, in San Antonio. Mrs. Rodriguez was born in D’Hanis on April 21, 1916. Deacon Robert Garza, cousin of the family, led the rosary on Wednesday, June 28 at Holy Cross Church. Fr. W. Stiles celebrated the funeral mass on Thursday morning at Holy Cross. Deacon Garza assisted and presented the sermon. William Rodriguez and Mary Rodriguez Wagner presented the eulogy. Granddaughters Jennie Wagner Kennedy and Christina Rodriguez, had the readings and Carmen Pruneda and Martina Watson led the Responsorial Psalm. Younger grandchildren presented the gifts. Interment followed at San Francisco Cemetery in D’Hanis.

Ruby Elsie Teer, age 84, of Hondo, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006. She was born July 14, 1921, on the family ranch near Tarpley. Funeral service was Friday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Oak-wood Section.

Jo Ann Tschirhart, age 63, passed away June 1, 2006, at home. Jo Ann, a native of San Antonio, was born August 4, 1942. The Rosary was recited Friday, June 2. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, June 3. Both services were held at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Maxine Jeanelle Endsley Williams, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, and has reunited with family and friends in Heaven. She was born in Paonia, Colorado on May 17, 1922. Visitation was held on Wednesday evening, June 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services for Maxine at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo on Thursday, June 29, at 5 p.m. with interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
