Chester E. "Sleepy" Boyd, Sr., 87, of Devine, passed away Friday, July 26, 2002, in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Monday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Devine. Masonic graveside service was under the auspices of Devine Lodge #590 A.F. & A.M. at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, immediately following the church service.

PCT # 4 Constable Bob J. Brown
Bob J. Brown, age 61, of Devine passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Pearsall on Sunday, Aug. 25, 1940. Bob was constable for Medina County Pct. #4 for 12 years and a peace officer all his adult life. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Estelle Bendele Cannon

Estelle Bendele Cannon passed away July 6, 2002, at the age of 88. "Stell" was born Sept. 18, 1913. Rosary was recited Monday, July 8, 7 p.m., at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church,
followed by interment in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville. Rev. Jim Conway officiated the services.

Raul Cantu

Raul Cantu of Hondo, age 79, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born July 30, 1922, in Eagle Pass. Raul served in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII. The Rosary was recited for Raul on Monday, July 22, and a Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday. Both services were at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Martin Campos Carrillo

Martin Campos Carrillo, age 75, of Lytle passed away, Sunday, July 7, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Atascosa County, Nov. 11, 1926. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment was in San Lorenzo Cemetery, Atascosa County.

Lee Owen Davis

Lee Owen Davis passed from this life July 7, 2002, at the V.A. Hospital in Kerrville. Graveside service was at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, on Wednesday, July 10.
The family has requested donations be made to any favorite charity in the name of Lee Owen Davis.

Silveria DeLeon

Silveria DeLeon, age 73, of Yancey passed away July 6, 2002, at her home in Yancey. She was born in Big Foot, June 20, 1929. Rosary was at 7 pm. Sunday, July 7, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, led by Father Wallis J. Stiles with music by Gegi Villa. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Stiles officiating. Interment was in the Yancey Cemetery.

Linden Dokken

On July 2, 2002, Linden Dokken perished while trying to assist others in danger due to rising floodwaters on the upper Sabinal River. A past resident of Odem and Corpus Christi, Linden resided in Utopia, where he was a proud member of the community, living along the banks of the Sabinal. Born Feb. 28, 1928. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Utopia United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to the Red Cross Flood Relief Fund, a humane society, children's health organization or an organization of your choice.

Ernest Joseph Martin Echtle

Ernest Joseph Martin Echtle, age 91, passed away on July 6, 2002, in Hondo. Ernest was born Feb. 15, 1911, in La Coste. Rosary was recited Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace
Catholic Church in La Coste, followed by interment at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Rev. John Manion officiated the services.

Bennie Allen Evans

Bennie Allen Evans, 66, of Lytle passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Monday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the Hurley Chapel, Devine. Interment will be on Thursday, July 11, at Sunset Hills
Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Dora Mae McAnelly Faseler

Dora Mae McAnelly Faseler, age 88, of Yancey went home to be with her Lord on July 4, 2002. She was born April 29, 1914. Funeral service was at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at First United Methodist Church in Hondo, followed by interment in Yancey Cemetery. Rev. Bert Clayton and Rev. David Crabtree officiated.

Roberto (Beto) Flores

Roberto (Beto) Flores, age 60, passed away June 29, 2002. Rosary was recited on Monday, July 1, at the Treviño Funeral Home in San Antonio. Funeral service was Tuesday at the Treviño Funeral Home. Interment
followed in First Memorial Park.

George Geuea

George Geuea, age 97, died Friday, July 19, 2002, in Granbury. He was born April 24, 1905, in Hondo. Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Monday, at Wiley uneral Home.

Noble Joe Green

Noble Joe Green of Lytle, age 76, passed away July 13, 2002, in San Antonio. Noble was born November 13, 1925, at Ft. Sam Houston. He served in the Air Force during WWII. Visitation was held Tuesday, July 16, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. The funeral service was Wednesday at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jane Florence. Interment followed the funeral service with military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

James B. Harvey

James B. Harvey of Kyote, 68, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Saturday, July 20 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine. Interment followed at Sand Branch Cemetery, Kyote.

Emanuel M. Honig

Emanuel M. Honig of Los Alamos, NM, died July 25, 2002, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston of a rare form of leukemia. Until recently, he had been in remission since shortly after diagnosis in 1991. Emanuel was born in Fredericksburg on Aug. 25, 1948. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, with Rev. David J. Mayer officiating. He was laid to rest in Los Alamos.

Ella Marie Katharina Nieten-hoefer Lindeburg

Ella Marie Katharina Nieten-hoefer Lindeburg passed on from this life into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus, on Monday July,15 2002 at the age of 96. Ella was born on Sept. 26, 1905, in New Fountain. A prayer service was held Saturday, July 17, at Guinn-Horger Funeral
Home Chapel with Pastor Stephen Schur of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, and Pastor David Mayer of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, officiating. Gladys Lindeburg was organist. Her cremains will be laid to rest with a private service at a later date.

Henry F. Magnus

Henry F. Magnus, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, entered into eternal peace at age 69 on Saturday, July 20, 2002, ending a brave and determined fight against cancer. He was born September 25, 1932, in San Antonio. Henry served in the U.S. Army as a corporal and spent time in Korea. Funeral service was Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine, with Rev. Robert L. Nixon, Jr. of Bethel Assembly of God presiding. Interment followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Mary Jewell Mangum

Mary Jewell Mangum, age 78, of Devine, passed away July 24, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Moore, Sept. 19, 1923. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Willis officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Joe Howard Martin of Hondo passed away July 9, 2002, at the age of 72. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Hondo. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at First United Methodist Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. A Masonic graveside
service was conducted by the Hondo City Lodge 756.

Rosa G. Martinez, age 90, of Hondo passed away July 13, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Yancey Aug. 30, 1911. Funeral service: 3 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Geneva L. (Moehring) Masters

Geneva L. (Moehring) Masters, a native of Hondo, loved to assist others, was an avid runner and gifted musician, and dedicated her life to helping children read. Masters died late Wednesday night from a sudden, massive heart attack. She was 56. A memorial service was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m.at the Hondo Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Schur of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi officiating.

Louis John Mazurek

Louis John Mazurek of Hondo, passed away July 23, 2002, at the age of 70. He was born in Bandera, Aug. 28, 1931. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Father Wallis Stiles officiating. Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

Norma Nelle Bullard Morehead, age 88, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Hondo, passed away July 11, 2002, in Springfield. She was born in Jasper, FL, on Oct. 16, 1913. Funeral service: Monday, July 15, 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Hondo.

Dominga G. Munoz

Dominga G. Munoz of Devine, age 72, passed away Friday, July 19, 2002, in Hondo. She was born in Goldfinch on April 4, 1930. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 23, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church
with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Angelita Gutierrez Perez

Angelita Gutierrez Perez, age 87, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Charlotte. Funeral service was held Monday at 10 a.m., July 8, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine.

Armando "A. J." Pompa, age 54, of Devine passed away Thursday, July 11, 2002, at his residence. Rosary: 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in the Hurley Chapel. Mass : 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Devine.

Anselmo Rodriguez

Anselmo Rodriguez, age 78, of Hondo, passed away July 2, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Sabinal May 21, 1924. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, led by Joe Mares. Funeral Mass was at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

ELVA A. ROSS

Elva A. Ross, 80, of Air Force Village II, formerly of Castroville, passed away Monday, July 30. The Tondre-Guinn Chapel was open for visitation 2 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 1, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside service and interment was held Friday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. at Castroville Community Cemetery.

Lucia Joan Skonitzki Schneider

Lucia Joan Skonitzki Schneider of Atascosa, age 85, passed away July 9, 2002, in San Antonio. Lucia was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Yorktown. Visitation and Rosary were held Thursday, July 11, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel.
Funeral Mass was offered by Fr. John Mannion Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Macdona. Graveside service and interment was Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown.

Jesus Franco Solis

Jesus Franco Solis, age 66, of La Coste passed away July 26, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born August 2, 1935, in Peggy. Visitation was held Monday, July 29, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste, with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Mannion Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment was at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.

John Joseph Sturm

John Joseph Sturm, age 79, of Hondo passed away, July 2, 2002. He was born in Castroville on Dec. 31, 1922. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jul. 5, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.

Clarence John Tschirhart

Clarence John Tschirhart of Castroville age 95, passed away July 17, 2002, in Castroville. He was born March 28, 1907, in La Coste. Just a few short hours before Clarence left this world to be with his Lord, his daughter, Betty, passed away and went to prepare a place for him to join her in Heaven. Visitation was held Thursday, July 18, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. A Funeral Mass for Clarence and his daughter was concelebrated by Fr. Mike Horan and Msgr. Thomas Palmer Thursday. The Rosary was recited for Clarence and his daughter Friday, led by Fr. Mike Horan. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Elizabeth Ann OBetty' Tschirhart

Elizabeth Ann OBetty' Tschirhart of Castroville, age 55, passed away July 16, 2002, in San Antonio. Betty was born July 25, 1946, in Castroville. Just a few short hours after Betty left this world to be with her Lord, her father,
Clarence, also went to join her in Heaven. Visitation was Thursday, July 18, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. A Funeral Mass for Betty and her father was concelebrated by Fr. Mike Horan and Msgr. Thomas Palmer Thursday. The Rosary was recited for daughter and father Friday, led
