Nora Annie Balzen Barfield, age 67, of Antioch, TN, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Hondo on March 4, 1940.

John Claude “Johnny” Biediger Jr., age 86, of La Coste, passed away on, January 28, 2008. Johnny was born December 30, 1921, in La Coste. Rosary was recited Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Funeral Thursday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

Eugene P. Brown was born Monday, November 26, 1928 in Bigfoot. He passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2008. Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Funeral Services was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28 in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with interment following at
Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Wilson Lee Cook, age 72, of Lytle, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008, in Devine. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the First United Methodist Church of Lytle, with interment Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Pablo Cortez, age 94, of D’Hanis passed away Sunday, January 13, 2008, in Hondo. He was born June 7, 1913. Rosary was recited Monday, Jan. 14, and Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Leslie Allen Daniells of Hondo, age 86, passed away Monday, January. 7, 2008, in Uvalde. Leslie was born April 16, 1921, in New York. A private memorial service held at a later date.

Elsie Modena Dixon, age 82, of rural Hondo passed away Friday, January 18, 2008, in Castroville. Elsie was born April 24, 1925, in Waurika, OK. Graveside service held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, OK.

Martin George Fernandez, age 69, of Devine passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at his residence. Rosary was recited Friday, Jan. 11, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery.

Virginia M. “Ginger” (Brotherton) Fohn of D’Hanis, age 59, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. Ginger was born Mar. 14, 1948, in Del Rio. Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 9:45 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiated. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, D’Hanis.

Leandro De La Fuente, 78, of La Coste, passed away January 2, 2008, in San Antonio. He was born March 27, 1929 in Karnes City. Graveside Service at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery was held Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.

Alfredo Pulga Flores Garcia, age 64 passed away on January 23, 2008. Visitation and Rosary were Friday, Jan. 25, and Funeral Mass was Saturday Jan. 26 at Hondo Funeral Home. Interment Followed in Hondo
Cemetery.

Wayne Marie Stevens Graff, age 86, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008, in Castroville. Wayne was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Abington, LA. Visitation was Wednesday. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Norma C. Mason Green, age 85, of Castroville, passed away January 9, 2008, in San Antonio. She was born July 17, 1922, in Norton, KS. Funeral Service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment followed at Castroville Community Cemetery.

Lera Edith Adcock James, 87, of Castroville, passed away January 11, 2008, in Castroville. She was born September 23, 1920, in Sparta, TN. Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castroville.

Henry Lee Allen Mechler, 84, of San Antonio, passed away January 22, 2008, in San Antonio. He was born December 3, 1923, in western Bexar County. Visitation at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 25, from noon to 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass held on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 9 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.

Robert Olson, age 24, passed away, Friday, January 18, 2008, in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Lytle. Graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville, KS.

Connie Ruth Milam Park, age 98, of Devine passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008, in Castroville. She was born July 19, 1909, in Moore. Graveside service held Thursday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. at Moore Cemetery.

William Perez, Age 45 of Hondo, entered into rest on January 18, 2008. Visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary being recited on Tuesday Jan. 22, at Hondo Funeral Home.

Eddie Eugene Ricord passed away at Methodist Hospital Sunday, January 6, 2008. Eddie was born on September 7, 1919, in Chester, OK. Service was held January 9, 2008, at the Hurley Funeral Home with
interment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine. Pastors John Bishop and Richard Byrd officiated.

Kathy Sue Oliver Boyd Riels, 56, of Hondo, passed away January 4, 2008, in Hondo. She was born June 6, 1951, in Conroe. Funeral Service held on Thursday, Jan.
10, at 2 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment at Castroville Community Cemetery.

Zena Ruth Lang Smith, age 88, born in Llano on October 31, 1919, died in Hondo, January 6, 2008. Funeral service and burial was held Wednesday, January 9, at Redeemer United Church, Zuehl.

Edgar Lenwood Sollock, age 92, of Devine passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008, at his residence. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery.

Rosa Benavides Valdez, 82, of Knox City, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008, in Abilene. She was born February 22, 1925, in Hondo. Services were Tuesday, Jan. 8, at North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St., Abilene, with Fransisco Gonzales officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery.

Herman Austin Vernon known by all as ‘Bud’, passed away on January 15, 2008. He was born in Fort Smith, AR, on December 2, 1923. Funeral service held on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1106 Fiorella Street, in Castroville. Graveside service with Marine Honors at Sunset Memorial Park, Lawn Crypt, at noon the same day.

Calvert Campbell Wallace died January 20, 2008, in Westmoreland, TN, at age 79. He was born in Golden Pond, KY, on September 3, 1928. Mr. Wallace’s requiem mass will be at Mount Calvary Church in Baltimore, MD, and he will be laid to rest beside his wife at Hematite Cemetary in Land Between the Lakes, KY.

Herman Otto Woerndell of Yancey, age 93, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Herman was born June 11, 1914, in Seguin. Funeral Service was held at the Yancey United Methodist Church on Jan. 8, 2008, with Pastor Danette Howell officiating.

Pat Wootton, age 89, of Sabinal, passed away Saturday, Janary 12, 2008. He was born March 23, 1918. Services were held Tuesday, January 15, at Central Christian Church, Sabinal, with interment following at the Sabinal Cemetery.
