Verine Maude Barlow, age 89 years, 2 months and 18 days, of Hondo, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005.   She was born in D'Hanis, on Dec. 4, 1915.  Memorial service was held at 3 p.m Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel.

Martin Carrillo, age 87, of Natalia, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Lytle.  He was born in Natalia, Nov. 11, 1917.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating  Interment followed at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Francisco T. Castillo, age 84, of La Coste, passed away Feb. 10, 2005, in San Antonio. Francisco was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Hondo.  Rosary was recited Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was held Saturday at  12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment was at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

Sherry Ruth Cicero, age 43, of Castroville passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in San Antonio.  Visitation  held Friday, Feb. 25, 8 to 10 a.m., with a Chapel service  at Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Rev. Ed Dougherty will be officiating. Interment  in Evergreen Cemetery.

Raquel "Rachel" Marie DeLeon, 58, of Kerrville,  passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born
on Dec. 4, 1946, in D'Hanis.   Rosary held at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel.  Mass  celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Greg Nevlud as celebrant.

Antonio R. Fuentez, age 82, of Natalia, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in San Antonio. He was born in Natalia, Dec. 7, 1922.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Edna Novella Gholson, 81, of Devine passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Castroville. Visitation  held Thursday, Feb. 24, 8 to 10 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home. Funeral service conducted Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m.  in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Roy Leonard Dossey officiating. Graveside service at 3 p.m. at Langford Cemetery, Evant.

Jessie Jean Gulick, age 88 years, 6 months and 27 days, of Sabinal, Texas, died on Friday, February 18, 2005.    She was born in Konawa, OK, on July 22, 1916.   Graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Coker Cemetery in San Antonio.

James G. "Jim" Height, 55, of Hondo, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in New Braunfels.  Visitation Thursday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial service at 7 p.m.

Eugene Edward "Bubba" Jones, age 70, of Castroville,  passed away Feb. 19, 2005, at Lackland AFB. Bubba was born Jan. 16, 1935, in Youngstown, OH.   Memorial service held Friday, Feb. 25, at 8 a.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment  at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Fort Sam Houston.

Jack Augustine Kelley ­ an embodiment of American Old West culture ­ died, at the age of 93, Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in Devine.  Jack was born Aug. 12, 1911, in his maternal grandmother's home in Stamford, Jones County, Texas.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at First Baptist Church, Devine, with Dr. T. Glenn Young officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Felipe Lara, of Hondo, entered into rest on Feb. 9, 2005, at the age of 77.   Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Hondo Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, at Templo De Dios Church. Interment followed in the Oakwood Section of Hondo Cemetery.

Alberto R. Lopez, age 57 years, 9 months and 15 days, of Hondo, Texas, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005.   He was born in Hondo, on May 10, 1947.   Rosary was recited Sunday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass was at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo.   Deacon Richard Edminson and Evangelina Pimentel led the rosary and Rev. Jeff Pehl officiated the mass.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Ruby Maurice Malone was born on May 12, 1916 in Devine, and entered into eternal rest on February 10, 2005 in San Antonio.   Services were held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with Ms. Dorothy Johnson, pastoral assistant,  Memorial United Methodist Church, Austin, officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery.

Jesus T. Menchaca, age 82, of Devine, passed away February 4, 2005, in San Antonio. He was born in Big Wells on May 15, 1922. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Jose F. Puente officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral service for Raymond Robert Mumme Jr. of Bandera  held Thursday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo. Visitation
preceding the service, from noon to 2 p.m.   Born in Hondo on Mar. 21, 1933, he passed away Feb. 7, 2005, in Jourdanton.

Alvin J. Pawelek, age 48, of Hondo passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, in Panna Maria.   A former employee of TDCJ in Hondo, he lived in Hondo for 15 years.    Rosary was recited Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m., and Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10 a.m., both at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Interment was at Panna Maria Cemetery. Rev. Wojeiesch Reisch officiated.

Fifty-four days shy of ninety years, Annabelle Pease ended what she laughingly referred to as her "third childhood" on Feb. 9, 2005.   She was born in Stockton, Ca and came to Hondo in 1996.  The family requests that honorariums be  directed to: Southwest Indian Foundation, P.O. Box 86, Gallup NM 87302-0001.

Laura Lucille Stockton Pfeiffer, 91, of Moore passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, in Bigfoot.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Interment was at Longview Cemetery, Bigfoot.

Daniel Martin Polhemus, age 19, of Wimberley was called home by our heavenly father on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.   He was born in San Antonio on Jan. 1, 1986.   Services for Daniel were held on Monday, Feb. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wimberley with burial following at the Wimberley Cemetery.

Mercedes Duron Rangel, age 92, of La Coste passed away Feb. 14, 2005, in Castroville.   Mercedes was born Dec. 25, 1912, in La Coste.   Visitation  Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Mass  Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. A Rosary  held Thursday, Feb. 17,
at  10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment following the Rosary at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

Maria Rodriguez Sarabia, age 84, of Yancey, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005.  She was born in Yancey April 20, 1920.  Visitation was at the Guinn-Horger Chapel with Rosary recited by Joe Mares at 7 pm on Thursday, Feb. 17. Funeral Mass was at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Yancey. Interment was at Yancey Cemetery. Father Wallis J. Stiles officiated the services.

Msgr. Victor G. Schmidt-zinsky, 90, went to his eternal reward Friday, Feb. 25, 2005.    He was a resident of Padua Place, retired home for priests, since 1996.  He was born in Fredricksburg on January 27, 1915.   Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 28, in the Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel and a vigil service was held Monday at 7 p.m.
    A Mass of Resurrection was held Tuesday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Vilano officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

After a long and valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Lt. Eric Tyler Schofield, USN, at the age of 53, completed his earthly journey and went home to the Lord on Feb. 16, 2005. He began his journey as a Navy baby June 19, 1951, at Balboa Medical Center, San Diego, CA.   A memorial service led by Rev. Stan Harvey was held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio on Saturday Feb. 19. Internment at Fort Sam Houston will be at a later date with full military honors.

Kathrine Agnes "Maw Maw" Schulte, 78, of Kerrville, formerly of Hondo, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.    Memorial service  Thursday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville with Pastor Douglas McBride, officiating.  She was born July 19, 1926, in Yorktown. 

Lillian E. Huegele Smith, age 92,  passed away Feb. 27, 2005, at her home in San Antonio after a short illness. She was born in D'Hanis on April 4, 1912.   Graveside funeral service held Friday, March 4, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. with Pastor James Haupt of Mt.Calvary Lutheran Church officiating.

Stella Kahanek Staha, age 88, of Port Lavaca, passed away Feb. 28, 2005.  She was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Schulenburg.    A rosary was recited Wednesday, Mar. 2, 2005, at 7 p.m. in Richardson at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass  Friday, Mar. 4, 2005, at 12:00 p.m.. in St. John's Catholic Church, Schulenburg.  Interment  in St. John's Cemetery, Schulenburg.

Leon Anthony Suehs, age 81, of Castroville passed away Feb. 15, 2005, in Castroville.    Leon was born Jan. 26, 1924, in San Antonio. Visitation  Thursday, Feb. 17, from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m.  and Rosary  recited at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel.  The Mass  Friday, Feb. 18, at  10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment with military honors  followed at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville. Members of VFW  Post #8134 and American Legion Post 460 will be honorary pallbearers.

Reginald Ernst Weirich, age 80 years, 8 months, and 17 days, of Quihi, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005.  He was born in Johnson City May 25, 1924, the son of Alfred August and Gretchen (Klappen-bach) Weirich.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, led by Pastor Stephen Schur. Burial was in Quihi Cemetery.

Peggy Williams, age 69, of Devine, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Devine. She was born in Schertz, March 7, 1935.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Myron Ricketts officiating.
