Hondo ISD will seek bid proposals for artificial turf
The Hondo ISD board has authorized Supt. Clyde Parsons to begin
seeking bid proposals for the possible installation of artificial turf
at Barry
Field.
At Monday night's school board meeting, trustees
viewed photos of stadiums where other area schools have already
installed the turf.
The district will advertise for bids in the coming
weeks, and the board could be ready to select a bidder at its Jan. 16
meeting.
Schools win literary contests
Academic teams from Meyer Elementary, Woolls
Intermediate and McDowell Middle Schools were all district champions at
the recent UIL competitions.
Supt. Parsons says this is the first time McDowell has won a UIL title
in a number of years.
Ag Project Center
The roof of the Agricultural Project Center is
nearing completion, with only rain gutters remaining to be installed.
After the exterior work is completed, then the HISD
will handle the interior work, including construction of offices,
restrooms, plumbing, installation of pens, etc.
The district has also received donations covering the
cost of five additional stock pens at the ag center.
A donation of $2,500 will build one of the 29 stock
pens, which will then be identified with a mounted brass plaque naming
the sponsor. About 20 remain to be funded.
** The exterior of the greenhouse at HHS is now
finished, with work on the interior coming soon.
The greenhouse will be operated by Mrs. Taylor's Life
Skills class, and should be ready to go in the spring semester.
The Hondo Garden Club has made a second donation
toward the construction of the greenhouse. The clubıs check for
approximately $1,100 follows an
earlier donation of $2,000.
** The high school weight room is on target to get
bid approval in January, with construction likely proceeding during the
spring semester.
** The district has collected $595,818 of its 2005
tax assessment, as of Nov. 30. That represents 12.64% of the tax roll.
Last year, to the same date, the HISD had taken in 11.16% of its 2004
taxes.
The percentage represents the district's best
collection through Nov. 30, since at least 1999.
Taxes, which are payable at the Medina County Tax
Office, 15th Street and Avenue K, are due Jan. 31, 2006. After that
date, they are subject to penalty.
Also through the end of November, the district has
revenues of $5,622,235, with expenditures of $4,102,114.
