Franklyn Rothe Bless, age 81 went to work with the Lord on Thursday, August 23, 2007. Born in Hondo on January 20, 1926. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. in Hondo at Hondo Funeral Home. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hondo.

Richard Kenneth Caldwell Jr., SFO, age 46, of Rio Medina was born in San Antonio on November 28, 1960, and went to his eternal rest on August 5, 2007, at his home. The Rosary was recited Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. The Mass of Resurrection was Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Lewis Reaves Cole Jr., age 66, of Sabinal passed away August 3, 2007, at his residence . He was born March 18, 1941, in Austin. Funeral service was held on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes- Knowles Chapel in Sabinal. Interment followed in Waresville Cemetery in Utopia with Rev. Billy Morse officiating.

Hilliard Collins, age 83, died in his Castroville home on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. Hilliard Collins, better known as Mr. C., was born February 12, 1924, in Granada, MS. Funeral service Thursday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment at the Castroville Community Cemetery.

Helen (Hunnicutt) Covey, age 92, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in Hondo. She was born on Aug. 16, 1915, in Ninnekah, OK. Private interment is planned with her family in Llano.

Jay Dean Crutchfield, age 61, of San Antonio was born in Pearsall, on June 12, 1946 and he went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2007. Viewing was at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, also at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, with pastor, J C Ballard, of Calvary Chapel officiating.

Margaret Mary Sobeczek English, age 78, of Castroville, passed away Aug. 8, 2007 in Castroville. Margaret was born Oct. 17, 1928 in Wilson County. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for visitation on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007 from 12 to 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection was Friday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. The Rosary was Saturday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Adan Garcia of Hondo passed away on Aug. 18, 2007, at the age of 44. Rosary was recited on Monday, Aug. 20, at Hondo Funeral Home. An 11 a.m. funeral mass was held at St. John’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Interment followed In Hondo Cemetery.

Violet Raye Garret, age 74, of Devine passed away Thursday, August 2, 2007 in Castroville. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 4, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery.

Juan Manuel Gonzales, age 63, of D’Hanis passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2007. He was born in D’Hanis, April 13, 1944. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, and Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, both at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery, D’Hanis.

John E, Haglund passed away August 4, 2007, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer, at the age of 68. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devine. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Leo A. Highsmith, of Hondo, passed away on Aug. 29, 2007, at the age of 89. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Entombment followed in St. John’s Garden Memorial Mausoleum.

Roy Lee Johnson, age 79, of Castroville, passed away Aug. 14, 2007, at his home. Roy was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Pampa. Funeral service held Friday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, with Rev. Danny Haby Jr. officiating. Interment at Castroville Community Cemetery in Castroville.

Irene “Rene” Riley Knox, age 90, of Kingsland passed away August 18, 2007, in Castroville. “Rene” was born May 10, 1917, in Eldorado. The family will hold memorial service at a later date.

Edna Kathleen Collins Love, age 66, of Devine passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, in Hondo. Funeral service conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with Dr. T. Glenn Young officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Verlyn “Cricket” Wiemers Mangold, age 63, of Hondo passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at her home after a painful fight against ALS. She was born in Maxwell, TX, on Dec. 29, 1943. The welcomed visitors on Friday, Aug. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo. Funeral service held Saturday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1303 Avenue M., Hondo, officiated by Pastor David Meyer.

Amy Lorraine Pardo Martinez, age 31, of Castroville passed away Aug. 18, 2007, in Hondo. Amy was born Aug. 22, 1975, in San Antonio. The funeral service was Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. at Refuge of Love Church in Lytle. Interment followed at Castroville Community Cemetery in Castroville.

Steven M. McCaffrey, age 62, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, in Yancey. He was born in Chicago, IL. Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo

Ruth Beatrice Miller of D’Hanis, passed away on August 1, 2007 at the age of 80. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gilberto Moreno, age 86, of San Antonio passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2007. He was born April 14, 1921, in Uvalde, resided most of his life in D’Hanis, and recently lived in San Antonio. Rosary was recited Thursday, Aug. 16, and Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 17, both at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiated. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery, D’Hanis.

Maxine Virginia (Spivey) Muennink passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007. She was born Mar. 7, 1922, in San Antonio. Visitation was Sunday and funeral service was at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bert Clayton officiating. Interment followed at 3:30 p.m. at Yancey Cemetery in Yancey.

Edson Jay Oefinger, age 79, a stock-farmer/rancher, of Quihi, passed away on August 27, 2007, at home. Edson was born on September 21, 1927, in upper Quihi. Visitation, Aug. 31, from 12 to 5:30 p.m. Rosary held on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m at St. Louis Catholic Church. Funeral Mass Saturday, Sept. 1, at 9 am at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment at the Hondo Cemetery in Hondo.

Laura Mann Pitts, age 85, of LaCoste passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007, in Natalia. She was born in Goldfinch. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Hurley Funeral Home. Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste, with interment in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Devine.

Nelda Fay Roark, of Devine passed away on Aug. 24, 2007, at the age of 70. Hondo Funeral Home, Hondo.

Ehme Mathis Saathoff, age 94, of Hondo/Quihi passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007. He was born on Mar. 20, 1913. Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Leonor (Santos) Sandoval, age 97, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007. She was born Mar. 4, 1910, in Hondo. Rosary was recited Thursday, Aug. 10, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fr. Ken Dakin officiating.

Henry William “Buck” Schirmer III, age 76 of Pleasanton, passed away Aug. 31, 2007 in San Antonio. He was born April 9, 1931 in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, San Antonio. Interment followed the Service at San Fernando Cemetery #3 in San Antonio.

Frank Armin Schneider, Sr. “Papa Smurf”, age 70, of LaPryor, passed away Aug. 7, 2007 in San Antonio. Frank was born Aug. 8, 1936 in Hondo. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for visitation on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Funeral Service was held Saturday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment followed the Funeral Service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castroville.

Alan Raiford Sparger Jr., age 83, of Comfort, formerly of the D’Hanis area, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, in Fredericksburg. He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in San Antonio. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Gaddis Memorial United Methodist Church in Comfort with Rev. Lynn Lockett officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio.

Era Nevada Taylor, age 86, formerly of Devine, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007, in Floresville. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Betty Louise Noblet Valenta, age 74, of Castroville, passed away Aug. 2, 2007 in Castroville. Betty was born Mar. 19, 1933 in Mobile, AL. The Rosary was recited Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. The Mass was Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.
