Barbara Jean Pichot Anderson passed away Monday Oct. 30, 2006, in Tomball after a long illness with cancer. She will be buried at Brookside Woodlands Cemetery in Houston.

Luren Schweers Balzen of Hondo, age 96, passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006. She was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Quihi. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m., at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Burial was at Quihi Cemetery.

Nona G. Begley of Devine passed away October 18, 2006, at the age of 81. Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Hondo Funeral Home.

James R. Bower, age 83 of Devine, passed away Monday, October 23, 2006, in San Antonio. Visitation held Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, from 2 until 9 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Peggy Sue Burge, age 41, of Lakehills, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at her residence. She was born on Aug.18, 1965, in Seville, Spain. Memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 pm, at Froggy Bottom Café in Lakehills.

Juanita “Jane” Chichester, age 67, of Vienna, WV, passed away October 16, 2006, at Sunbridge Care Center. She was born in Brownwood, TX, on July 20, 1939. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg WV.

Johnnie Reed Cornelius, age 91, of Moore, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006, in San Antonio. Visitation held Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5-9 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Graveside Service conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at Moore Memorial Cemetery, Moore.

Domingo Corona, age 80, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006. He was born in Uvalde on April 25, 1926. Rosary was recited Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel and Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Oct. 18, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Shirley Davis, age 71, of Devine passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in Hondo. Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at at Black Creek Baptist Church. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Leland L. Estep, age 87, of Castroville, passed away Oct. 2, 2006. Leland was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Yawkey, WV. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at 1p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, Ft. Sam Houston.

Onesimo M. Garza, age 88, passed away Oct. 17, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born May 20, 1918, in Hondo. Visitation Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville. Rosary recited Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

Pauline “Paula” (Sanchez) Garza, age 62, of San Antonio, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2006. She was born in Hondo on June 30, 1944. Rosary was recited Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was Saturday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Irene Patterson George, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, officiated by Bro.John Franklin of Lack-land Baptist Church of San Antonio, with interment following at Pearsall Cemetery, Pearsall.

Francisco H. “Pancho” Hernandez of D’Hanis passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at the age of 72. He died of complications following open heart surgery. He was born in Haciende, Mexico, Aug. 17, 1934. Rosary was recited at 9:45 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Burial was at San Francisco Cemetery, D’Hanis.

Mary “Judy” Highsmith-Klauer, age 52, of Hondo, passed away Oct. 21, 2006. Judy was born July 14, 1954, in Hondo. Rosary was recited Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.

Dietra Shay Jones, age 37, formerly of Devine, passed away Oct. 21, 2006. She was born Dec. 25, 1968. Funeral service was held Oct. 24, at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roy Stokes officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

We will celebrate the life and mourn the loss of Donald F. Lee. He was called on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006. Don was born in Shawnee, OK, in 1944. Funeral service Thursday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis with Rev. Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Catherine Louise Rihn Lester, age 55, passed away suddenly Oct. 9, 2006, in Austin. Cathy was born in Castroville, Texas, Aug. 21, 1951. Funeral mass was held Oct. 13. Rosary was Saturday, Oct.14. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment immediately followed rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Alberta Anderson Kempf Mangold, age 88 of San Antonio, passed away October 29, 2006. Alberta was born Mar. 7, 1918, in Bexar County. Visitation 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Mass Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at 2 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville. Interment at St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Rita Louise McAlister, age 75 of Devine, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at her residence. Funeral service was conducted Saturday, October 28, 2006, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Interment followed at Moore Memorial Cemetery, Moore.

Tee Murphy - Tee passed away in the hospital in Atlanta, TX on Sept. 19, 2006. She had recently moved to Bloomburg to be near her family. She was well known in the Sabinal, Hondo, D’Hanis areas. Going before her were her husband “Spud”, mother, father, and brother.

George Louis Nentwich, age 50, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006, at his residence. Funeral Service was held Monday, October 23, 2006, at at First Baptist Church, Devine.

Russell M. Peters, age 84, of Hondo passed away in St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006. He died of complications following cancer surgery. Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo with Rev. Charles Parker officiating.

Lt. Col. Robert W. Rivers, U.S. Air Force-retired, age 90, of Kingsland, died October 23, 2006. He was born September 29, 1916, in Andover, NH. The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at Putnam Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Rip Moran officiated.

A.J. Rodgers, age 80, of Hondo passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Hondo. Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, Oct.13, 2006 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

Ben Ruston, Sr. age 75, of Devine passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Graveside and Masonic services, under the auspices of Devine Lodge #590 A.F. & A.M., followed at Evergreen Cemetery, with Bro. John Narramore officiating.

Stella Ann Saathoff, age 88, of Mesa, passed away on Oct. 23, 2006. Stella was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Bisbee, AZ. Services held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at noon with visitation one hour prior at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, AZ.

Maria Sanchez, age 84 passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 in Lubbock. Maria was born on Nov. 8, 1921 in Hondo. A Rosary was held at Mark A. Jones Memorial Chapel, Wednesday evening, Oct. 4. Funeral services was held Oct. 5 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial followed at the Levelland Cemetery in Levelland.

Lillian Ethel Schweers Shuler, age 85, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12. 2006, in Hondo. She was born July 18, 1921, in Hondo. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Rev. Charles Parker officiating. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Gay Weldon Thibodeaux, age 74, of Bexar County, passed away Oct. 24, 2006. Gay was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Pear Valley. Visitation at 3 p.m.. to 8 p.m.. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Service held Friday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville. Interment at First Memorial Park Cemetery, San Antonio.

Pedro Torres of Hondo passed away on October 19, 2006, at the age of 71. A Prayer Service was held Sunday, Oct. 22, at Hondo Funeral Home.

Imogene Ann McAllister Tschirhart, age 54, of Devine, TX, passed away Oct. 5, 2006. She was born July 20, 1952, in Hondo. Funeral Mass was held Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, and Rosary was recited Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, both at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Billie Jeane Woodward, age 78 of Hondo, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born in Dallas, April 26, 1928. Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 25, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
