And the winner is… 10-year-old Allora Leonard of Hondo, applauded by fellow contestants, (from left) Destiny Camacho, Al Villa, Calan Ahrens, Jennifer Stiegler, Sally Bader and John Treviño, was shocked when Gabe Garcia (right) announced that she had won the top prize in the Dramatic Diva’s talent event, “The Show!,” the final competition in their “Medina County… Show Us Your Talent” contest. She won $1,000 while second place winners (not pictured) Cory & Jonathan Aken took home $500 and Kaci Lutz, in third, won $250.

 

Local favorite… Country recording artist Gabe Garcia, a Medina County native son, introduced contestants Saturday evening during The Show!

Déjà vu – Burn ban begins tonight..... On Monday, due to continued dry conditions throughout the area, Medina County Commissioners voted to implement a burn ban. Again.   Read More

Nora’s 99!… Proudly displaying her many birthday cards, Nora Balzen (left), a resident at a local nursing home, turned 99 years young August 7.

 

 

100 & counting… Local historian Lucy Davis will celebrate her centennial birthday Sunday. She has shared many memories with folks in the area doing family and county historical stories. Her father, Fletcher Davis, owned the Anvil Herald from 1900-1946.

Wow!… The Mighty Owl Band will be truckin’ in style this fall, with the addition of their new equipment trailer. The sharply designed trailer -- right down to the actual notes of “For Hondo’s Honor and Glory” underneath the artwork -- arrived at the band hall Monday. Assistant directors Clinton Marchese and Joshua Chessher, and director Leon Steward, pose proudly beside their new wheels. Clayborne Boehle handled the artwork.

The Owls will get a chance to hit somebody in different colored jerseys this Friday, when they scrimmage at Stockdale. Action begins with the freshman at 5 p.m.

 

 

Hondo Football....  The Hondo Owl football team made the transition from shorts to pads last Friday, Aug. 8, leading up to their first scrimmage, this Friday, Aug. 15, when they travel to Stockdale.    Read More

The Owls won the match in straight sets, and will go to the Wimberley tournament this Friday and Saturday.

 

 

Hondo Volleyball.....  The 2014 volleyball season began on a winning note for the Hondo Owls, who defeated San Antonio Lanier in straight sets Tuesday evening, Aug. 12, in the Activities Center.      Read More

Cowgirls win 3 of 4 against Lady Pirates......  Center Point -- The D’Hanis volleyball team opened the 2014 season on a solid note, defeating Center Point in a four-set match on Tuesday, Aug. 12.  Read More
