HISD Superintendent Dr. A’Lann Truelock, (Above left) looks on as Abdon Cantu reads a tribute to his brother, Pilar Cantu III, during an unveiling ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at Barry Field. A plaque was displayed commemorating the memory of Pilar who suffered a fatal concussion during a scrimmage against San Antonio MacArthur on August 26, 1959.

County goes blue for kids… Medina County Judge Chris Schuchart signed a proclamation April 6 declaring April 2015 Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. As a visual reminder, Bluebonnet Children’s Advocacy Center’s Executive Director Rodger Clark and his staff placed blue pinwheels and signs along the courthouse sidewalk to remain throughout the month and blue lights illuminate the outside of the courthouse at night.



City observing Library Week....  Mayor Jim Danner opened Monday’s Hondo City Council meeting by issuing a proclamation declaring April 13-18 as National Library Week.     Read More

Council accepts deeds for Martin Asphalt property.... Hondo City Council on Monday adopted two resolutions accepting deeds of release for 31.7 acres of airport land from the Federal Aviation Administration.   Read More

Owls beat Devine in 8 innings....  A three-run Rees Saathoff bomb over the right field fence in the bottom of the seventh sent the Hondo Owls into extra innings with the Devine Warhorses Tuesday, April 14, at Bridges Field.    Read More

Owls compete in final warmup track meet....  Pleasanton -- In the final meet prior to District 29-AAAA competition, the Hondo varsity girls’ track team placed third and the boys placed fourth in the 2015 Brush Country Relays at Pleasanton High School on Wednesday, April 8.      Read More

Cowgirls rally past Brackett, drop 2 games in following week....  Last Tuesday, April 7, the D’Hanis Cowgirls’ softball team found themselves trailing 6-3 after five innings against Brackett, but scored twice in the sixth inning and then added four more in the seventh to earn the 9-8 win.      Read More

Sabinal sends 7 to region tennis....  Seven Sabinal High School tennis players will be advancing to the Region IV-2A tournament in Corpus Christi this coming Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21.
    All of the participants in the District 29-AA tournament last week in Uvalde came from Sabinal and Brackett.   Read More
