Berta Gladys Britz, a resident of La Porte, passed away on December 24, 2007, at the age of 106 years. She was born in Trinity on July 4, 1901. Viewing service was Thursday, Dec. 27, at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home,
La Porte. Interment services were Friday, Dec. 28, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Jewel Bryant Coffman, 70, of Hondo, and formerly of Jasper, passed away Monday, December 24, 2007, in Hondo. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper. Burial followed at Homer Cemetery. A
memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Hondo.

Dorothy Paisley Rath Cotter, 89, of Lytle, and formerly of San Antonio, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007. She was born on Oct. 16, 1918, in the little coal mining town of Ward, WV. Memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. at The Prevailing Word Church in Lytle with Pastor Lynn Beams officiating. Burial at the Blackhill Burial Park.

Braelyn Mae Garcia, baby girl, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Braelyn is survived by her parents Christopher and Lacey Neuman Garcia; maternal grandparents, Larry and Carol Neuman; paternal grandparents, Armando and Sylvia Garcia Jr;. Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment followed in Heickman Cemetery, Somerset.

Ernest T. Gauna IV of D’Hanis, age 24, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2007. Ernest was born July 18, 1983, in San Antonio. Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and the Funeral Mass was held Wednesday at 10 a.m., both at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiated. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Maria Felicidad Gonzalez, of Devine, passed away on December 7, 2007, at the age of 64. Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Hondo Funeral Home. A 10 a.m. Funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devine on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Interment followed in New Hebbronville Cemetery in Hebbronville.

Maria Elisa Gutierrez, age 76, of Natalia passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 in Devine. A prayer service was held Friday, Dec. 28, in the Hurley Funeral
Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home, with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery.

Charles F. Halty, 58, of Alexandria, VA, passed away December 4, 2007, at his family’s homestead near La Coste. He was born Aug. 15, 1949, in Castroville. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for visitation on Friday, Dec. 7, from noon to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.

Adalia M. Hawes, age 84, of Lytle passed away Friday, December 28, 2008. She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Medina County. A graveside service was held in Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Eugenio O. ‘Chito’ Hernandez, Jr, age 69, of Devine and formerly of Natalia for over 30 years, passed away December14, 2007, in San Antonio. Rosary was recited in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 19,2007, at St John Bosco Catholic Church, Natalia. Interment followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Devine.

Ofilia Davila Hernandez, age 56, of Devine passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at her residence. Rosary was recited at Hurley Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007. Mass was celebrated Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with interment following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Norvell James Jenkins of Hondo, age 65, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007. Norvell was born June 23, 1942, in Hondo. Visitation was Wednesday at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service was Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. David Mayer officiating and Rev. Donna McCaskill assisting. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section.

Florine Ezetta Mason, 88, of Palestine, Texas, who was currently residing in Hondo, passed away Monday, December 3, 2007. She was born January 14, 1919, in Blackfoot. Memorial service and interment of cremains will be held at a later date in Palestine.

Fern McKinney of Huntsville, AR, formerly of Hondo, passed away early Christmas Day at the age of 89 due to a heart attack. Service was held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Braschear Funeral Home in Huntsville, AR.

Jay E. Muennink of New Fountain, age 81, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2007. Jay E. was born on Feb.17, 1926, at the family home in New Fountain. Visitation was Monday and the funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Rev. Charlie Parker of New Fountain UMC assisting and Rev. Ray Brink officiating. Special music was offered by The Joyful Noise. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Timoteo F. “Tim” Muñoz Sr. passed away at the age of 76 on December 31, 2007. He was born in Devine. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South.

Clinton P. Ness, of Hondo, passed away on December 20, 2007 at the age of 93. A 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service held on Wednesday Dec. 26, 2007 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde.

Frances Burlene Moses Sanford, age 78, of D’Hanis, died at Medina Community Hospital in Hondo on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Frances was born October 21, 1929, in Snyder. Visitation was Wednesday, with funeral service scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo, the Rev. David Mayer officiating. Services and entombment at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in San Benito, with Chaplin Joe Perez of Valley Baptist Hospital leading the service.

Mary Anna Zedler Simpson passed away on December 19, 2007. She was born on March 5, 1919, in San Antonio. Celebration of life service was held on Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.

Spencer “Ned” Stearns, age 87, of Hutchinson, formerly Hondo, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2007, in Hutchinson, MN. Ned was born January 27, 1920, in Harmony, MN. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, MN with a gathering one hour prior to the service. Hazel Blanche Stewart passed on to eternal life with her Lord on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at the age of 96. Hazel was born on August 22, 1911, in Benton City. Visitation held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Evergreen Cemetery,

Maggie Stella Taylor, age 95, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at the Medina Community Hospital in Hondo. She was born in Atascosa County. Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donald Ofsdahl officiating. Interment took place in the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.

Mary Jo Rios Torres, age 72, of Hondo passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. Mary Jo was born May 14, 1935, in Hondo. Rosary was recited on Sunday, Dec. 23, and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Fr. Ken Dakin officiated. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery,
Oakwood Section.

Ernice Mary Friesenhahn Wanat, age 82, of Castroville, passed away December 24, 2007, in San Antonio. She was born January 31, 1925, in Bexar County. The Rosary was recited at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was held Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Lee West Jr. went to Heaven on December 27, 2007. Known to his friends, family and co-workers as ‘Bobby’, he was born July 17, 1946, in San Antonio. Visitation and funeral service were held Dec. 29, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo.

George Thomas Wilkerson, age 86, died December 14, 2007. Born December 29, 1920, in Trinidad, CO. George Wilkerson’s life was celebrated at Black Creek Baptist Church on December 18, 2007, under the direction of Pastor Jim Whitt. He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery.
