Joseph Othell Batto passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 at his home in Cedar Hill. He was born on April 6, 1939.

Janet Denise Belew was born Feb. 27, 1952, in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with Dr. T. Glenn Young officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Anita Soliz Borrego, long- time resident of San Antonio, entered into rest peacefully on the evening of Dec. 19, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born in Yancey on Sept. 29, 1938. Visitation and prayer services were held in her honor Dec. 21 in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Dec. 22, at the Yancey Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mariachis led a walking procession of her family and friends to her final resting place in the Yancey Community Cemetery.

Ima Jean Brown, born Sept. 10, 1923, in Hondo, passed away Dec. 13, 2006, in San Antonio. A viewing was held Sunday evening at the Trevino Funeral home, 226 Cupples Rd. in San Antonio from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 2103 St. Cloud in San Antonio on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. The body was viewed there from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at which time the services were conducted by her nephew Danny Lee Brown. Dedication of the grave was performed by her former brother-in-law, Marcus Brown. Interment followed at the Ingleside Cemetery in Hondo.

Carrie Lucille Van Fleet Burgess, age 92, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born on June 21, 1914, in Hondo. Graveside services were held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend David Green officiating.

Walter Burrell, age 89, of D’Hanis passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006. Visitation on Thursday, Dec. 28, 5 to 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Rosary recited at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, followed by the Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, D’Hanis. A complete obituary will be published next week.

Dolores Jean Byrd, age 72, passed away Friday, December 1, 2006, in Lytle. Funeral Services were held, Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Lytle,with visitation will continuing until 9 p.m.

Victor Imon “Dick” Canion, age 84, formerly of Hondo, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2006, in Denton. Victor was born May 31, 1922, in Goose Creek, Texas. Family received friends Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment service Thursday, Dec. 21, 1 p.m., at the Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Hwy., San Antonio.

Delane Leola Castro, age 52, of Natalia passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in San Antonio. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Juan Garcia DeLeon, age 60, of Hondo passed away on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006. He was born in Hondo, March 8, 1946. Rosary was recited Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Guinn-Horger Chapel and Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment was at Yancey Cemetery with military honors.

JoNell Finger FitzSimon, age 76, of Castroville, passed away December 27, 2006, at her home. JoNell was born May 28, 1930, in D’Hanis. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at 7 p.m. and Rosary was recited Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, both at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castro-ville. Interment followed at St. Louis Cemetery in Castroville.

Sgt Javier Gurrusquieta, age 25, of Hondo passed away in an automobile accident on December 25, 2006. Javier had served two tours in Iraq and was scheduled for a third tour in Novemeber, 2007. A Rosary was recited on Friday, December 29, 2006, at Hondo Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

Juan Hernandez, age 87, of D’Hanis, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at his daughter’s home in San Antonio. He was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Mexico. Visitation Friday, Dec. 22, 6 to 8 p.m., and Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, followed by interment at San Francisco Cemetery, D’Hanis. Rev. Wallis J. Stiles officiated.

Benjamin Jett Mechler Huron died at birth and was delivered to Jesus on Dec. 15, 2006. Survivors include his parents, Tony and Patricia Mechler Huron of Rio Medina; sisters, Katie Lynn Mechler Huron, Clemie Lauren Mechler Huron, and Hannah Rose Mechler Huron. Graveside Service held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 at 10:00 am with Rev. Jim Conway officiating at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Jerry Lents, 73, passed away on Thursday Dec. 21, 2006, in Fredericksburg. A private family memorial service was held on Sunday Dec. 24, 2006 and an internment will be held at a later date in Kentucky.

Lida Mae Nixon Magnus, age 68, of Devine passed away Monday, Dec.11, 2006. She was born January 24, 1938 in Alpine, TX. Visitation Thursday, Dec. 14 from 2 - 9 p.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services held at 11a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, in the funeral home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Fay Dell Rath McGraw, age 74 of Hondo, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006. Fay was born June 26, 1932, in Hondo. Rosary was recited Monday, January 1, 2007, led by Alleen Koch and Ramona Koch. Funeral Mass was held January 2, 2007, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Louise B. Meyer, age 95, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006. Rosary was recited at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, St. John’s Section. A complete obituary will be published next week.

Jean Lunetta Miller of Crystal City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2006 at the age of 91. Memorial reception at 11:30 a.m., Dec. 29 in Jean’s home, 1202 E. Valverde. A complete obituary will follow next week.

Reyes Miranda, age 61 of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Hondo. He was born April 29, 1945, in Hondo. Rosary was led by Alleen Koch and Ramona Koch Saturday, Dec. 30, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Christine “Chris” (Boyle) Mitchell, age 60, of rural Hondo passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at her home. She was born April 19, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. A Rosary was recited at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 310 FM 2200, in D’Hanis. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles will officiate.

Henry Emil Mueller, age 80, of La Coste, passed away Dec. 11, 2006, at home. Henry was born Feb. 8, 1926, in La Coste. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rosary held on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Mass on Friday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste.

Maria “Mary” Cisneros Perales, age 78, of Castroville, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 2, 2006 in Castroville. Mary was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Castroville. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the Rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Patricia L. “Pat” Pritchard, age 69, of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Yancey, entered into eternal life Dec. 8, 2006, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Care Center in Louisville. She was born March 13, 1937 in Kansas City, MO. A memorial service will take place in Yancey at a later time. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Tito C. Reyes, MSgt., USAF Reserve, Retired, a long-time resident of Lytle, departed this life on December 9, 2006. MSgt. Reyes was born February 6, 1926. A funeral mass was celebrated, Wednesday, Dec. 13, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Lytle. Internment at Lytle Community Cemetery.

Edith Nora Moore Rupp, age 62, of Moore passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at her residence. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 7 from 2 -9 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Graveside services conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend; Janie C. Saucedo born July 20, 1952, in Castroville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2006 at the age of 54 years. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. The Rosary was recited Sunday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, La Coste.

Mercedes Nicole Sherwood, age 18, of Mico died in an automobile accident on Dec. 17, 2006. She had recently completed her senior year at Hondo High School. Mercedes is survived by her mother, Lois E. Graff; father Lloyd L. Sherwood. Visitation held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Hondo Funeral Home.

Tammy Leona Harris VanScoyk-Stanhope, age 31, of Hondo passed away Dec. 16, 2006. Visitation held Thursday, Dec. 21, 4 - 9 p.m. at Hondo Funeral Home. Prayer service held at 7:30 p.m.

Shirley Richardson Swindler, age 72, of Castroville, passed away Dec. 10, 2006 with her family at her bedside. Shirley was born Dec. 1, 1934 in Covington, TN. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Castroville First Baptist Church in Castroville. Interment at Castroville Community Cemetery, Castroville.

Norman Joseph Tondre, age 70, of LaCoste, passed away December 31, 2006, at his home. Norman was born November 20, 1936, in rural La Coste, Bexar County. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, from noon to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A graveside service Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in La Coste.

Jerry Paul Walker, age 64 of Lytle, passed away Dec. 21, 2006 in San Antonio. He was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Hamlin. Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 22 from 2 until 9 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Natalia, with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine
