Cipriano Reyna Alfaro, age 73 of Lytle, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, in San Antonio, with his loving family by his side. The Rosary was recited January 30 in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated January 31 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Lytle. Interment was in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Herlinda Dominguez Aguilar, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family January 6, 2011. She was born May 6, 1924, in Moore. The Rosary was recited Sunday, January 9, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 10 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Moore. Interment was in Moore Catholic Cemetery.

Calvin John Bendele went to be with our Lord January 18, 2011. He was 88 years old when he passed away at a hospital in San Antonio. He was born April 8, 1922, on the Fritz Rothe ranch near D’Hanis. The Rosary was recited Friday, Jan. 21 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 22 at Holy Cross Church in D’Hanis. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Edna Elizabeth Biar, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior January 29, 2011. She was born August 28, 1915, in Bishop. Funeral service was Jan. 31 at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Devine. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Pastor Otis Doyle officiated.

Martha Blakemore, age 76 of Castroville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 30, 2011, in San Antonio. She was born June 22, 1934, in Medina. Visitation held Friday, Feb. 4, from 2-5:30 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, and the Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, both at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Darlene Marie Bippert Boehme, age 88, of Rio Medina, passed away Feb. 24, 2011, in San Antonio. She was born Dec. 30, 1922, in La Coste. Funeral service was Feb. 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castroville.

Homer Waymon Boyd, age 80 of Devine, passed away February 28, 2011, in San Antonio. Funeral service held Thursday, March 3, at 11a.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine. Graveside service held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, with interment immediately following.

Vernon Briggs, age 76 of Hondo, passed away Jan. 25, 2011. He was born April 8, 1934, in Alberville, LA. Funeral service was held Tuesday, February 8, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Bernice Brown, age 89 of Devine, passed away February 23, 2011, in Devine. Funeral service was February 26 at First Baptist Church in Devine. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. Bryant, age 67 of Sabinal, passed on to be with our Lord January 16, 2011. A funeral service was held Wednesday Jan. 19, at Hondo Funeral Home. Interment was in Sabinal Cemetery.

Karl Thomas Buvinghausen, age 74 of Lytle, passed away peacefully January 29, 2011. He was born in Houston October 6, 1936, and has lived in Lytle for 35 years. Services held Friday, February 4, 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Natalia.

Carmen Casas, age 64 of McAllen, went to be with her Heavenly Father January 15, 2011, after a lengthy illness with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born January 14, 1947 in McAllen. Memorial service was Thursday, Jan. 20, in McAllen.

Richard Allen Causey was born February 5, 1942, in Laredo. He died at his home on the West Sabinal in Utopia January 13, 2011. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Utopia Methodist Church.

Anselmo De La Cruz, age 65 of Hondo, passed on to be with our Lord January 13, 2011. The Rosary was recited Sunday, Jan. 16, at Hondo Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday Jan. 17, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery.

Jovita R. Davalos, age 86 of Devine, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011. The Rosary was recited Friday, Feb. 25, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated Feb. 26 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Devine.

Lorenzo A. Diaz Sr., age 78 of Toledo, OH, and formerly of Hondo, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 5, 1932 in San Antonio. The Rosary was recited Jan. 19, and funeral service was Jan. 20, both at Newcomer Funeral Home in Toledo, OH. Interment was in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Frankie Mae Cloudt Fusselman, age 95 of Columbus, formerly of Hondo, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. She was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Uvalde. Visitation was held from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Services concluded at the funeral home.

Cornelia Saucedo “Connie” Garcia, age 79 of La Coste, passed away February 22, 2011, at home. She was born Sept. 16, 1931 in La Coste. The Rosary was recited Feb. 24 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Feb. 25 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment was in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in La Coste.

Armando “Tiny” Garza, age 42 of La Coste, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 31, 2011, in San Antonio. He was born Sept. 12, 1968, in San Antonio. The Rosary was recited Wednesday, Feb. 2. Mass of Resurrection held Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in La Coste.

Celerina Gutierrez Gomez, age 82 of Atascosa, passed away with her loving family at her bedside at home Jan. 24, 2011. She was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Atascosa. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home; the Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed at 11:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.



Chris O. Gonzales, age 36 of Hondo, passed on to be with our Lord Jan. 14, 2011. The Rosary was recited Monday, Jan. 17, at Hondo Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 18, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery.

Theresa Louise Rihn Groff, age 90 of San Antonio, passed away in San Antonio and went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011. She was born October 29, 1920, in San Antonio. Visitation held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, and the Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. Mass of Resurrection held Friday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. Interment in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Donald Max Hutson, age 84 of Hondo, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011. He was born September 25, 1926, in Guthrie, OK. Graveside service held Thursday, Jan. 27, at 1:00 p.m., at Eckert Cemetery at Willow City, north of Fredericksburg.

Clyde Donald Johnson, age 78 of Yancey, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011. He was born June 11, 1932, in Wyandotte, MI. Funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Yancey Methodist Church. Interment was in Yancey Cemetery.

Vivian La Faye Sapp Jones, age 90 of Hondo, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. She was born in San Antonio May 28, 1920. Funeral service held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at the Sabinal Cemetery.

Elva Lois Mumme Krenmueller, age 95 of Hondo, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. She was born February 15, 1915, in Hondo. Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 8, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Eddie August Leinweber died Wednesday, January 19, 2011. he was born June 21, 1919, on the family ranch in Medina County. Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 22, at MacArthur Park Lutheran Church, San Antonio. Burial with military honors was at Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section.

Billy Morris McClish Sr. was born December 16, 1941, in Austin, and passed away suddenly January 28, 2011, in San Antonio. A memorial service held at a later date per Billy’s request.

Lamar Miller Sr., age 79 of Somerset, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 6, 2011. He was a resident at Country Life Assisted Living in Lytle. He was born August 20, 1931, in the family home at 19821 Oil Street in Somerset. Services were Saturday, January 8, under the direction of Pastor L. Lynn Beams at Hurley Funeral Home in Lytle, Burial was in Bexar Cemetery in Somerset.

Joe Edd Minton, age 75, of Lytle, passed away February 26, 2011, after a brave and long-fought battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 19, 1936, in San Antonio. Funeral service was March 2 at Trinity Baptist Church in Lytle. Interment was in Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Ann Orene Hay Owen, age 94 of San Antonio, died February 26, 2011. She was born December 24, 1916, in Bandera in a home now listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Visitation held Thursday, March 3, 5-8 p.m., and funeral services held at 12 noon, Fri., Mar. 4, both at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park.

Ezequiel A. Rodriguez, age 88 of Natalia, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011, in San Antonio. The Rosary was recited Monday, Jan. 10, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine. Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Natalia. Interment followed in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Rodney Sams of Bandera departed this life Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the age of 62. He was born January 18, 1948, in Lompoc, CA. Visitation held 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Jan. 21, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Services at 2 p.m. Friday, January 21, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.

Estella Helen Haegelin Schott, age 95 of Mico, passed away with her loving family at her bedside January 17, 2011, in Castroville. She was born Mar. 22, 1915, in Rio Medina. Mass of Resurrection was Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. The Rosary was recited Friday, Jan. 21, at 9 a.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Schertz.

Alton Ihnken Seekatz, age 101 of Mico, passed away January 14, 2011, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 20, 1909, in Rio Medina. Mass of Resurrection was Sunday, Jan. 16, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. The Rosary was recited Monday, Jan. 17, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment was in St. Louis Cemetery Garden Mausoleum in Castroville.

Santiago G. Silva Jr., age 69 of Devine, passed away February 28, 2010, at home. Visitation held Thursday, March 3, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel from 2-9 p.m.; the Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Oral W. “Sparky” Sparks, age 91, passed on to be with our Lord January 11, 2011. “Sparky” was born in Buffalo Springs, TX, September 17, 1919. Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 14, from 6-8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Lenora Martha Koenig Stein-Mumme, 97, passed away February 24, 2011. She was born Oct. 2, 1913, in LaCoste. Funeral service was March 1 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, followed by interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.

Senior Master Sgt. Martin Taylor (U.S.A.F., retired), age 68 of San Antonio, passed away February 25, 2011, at home. He was born May 18, 1942, in Ward, WV. Memorial graveside service and interment of his ashes will be on a future date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. The family suggests that memorials may be made to heart and lung associations.

Arthur Fritz Weiblen, age 87 of Castroville, passed away in Castroville, and went to be with the Lord January 25, 2011. He was born July 24, 1923, in Castroville. Adela Aguilera of Hondo passed away February 18, 2011, at the age of 56. The Rosary was recited Mon. Feb. 21, at Hondo Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 22 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery.

Trinidad C. Ayala Jr., age 69 of Castroville, passed from this life at his home Monday, February 7, 2011. He was born in Kerrville January 6, 1942. Florence Dixon Babbitt, age 77 of Hondo, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011. She was born July 9, 1933, in Poteet. A memorial service was held Feb. 23 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Eva Edna Halty Biediger, age 94 of La Coste, passed away February 11, 2011, in San Antonio. She was born Jan. 26, 1917 in Castroville. James Thomas “Jim Tom” Boone, passed away at home in Lytle February 15, 2011. He was born in McAllen October 3, 1940. A memorial service was held Feb. 19, 2011, at Lytle United Methodist Church. Services concluded at the church.

Gary Lynn Coates, age 64, of Mico, TX, passed away Feb. 5, 2011 at home. Gary was born on Sept. 24, 1946 in Sewal, IA. A memorial service will be held at a friends home on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 12 noon.

Inez Gillett Cole, age 84, born June 10, 1926, in San Antonio, entered into rest February 11, 2011. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park.

Vella O’Neal Maniord “Mutt” Collins, age 81, passed away Feb. 18, 2011, in San Antonio. “Mutt”, as she was better known, was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Taber. Funeral service was Feb. 22 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment was in Castroville Community Cemetery.






Fay Reine Avant Colvin, age 82 of Sabinal, passed away February 16, 2011, in Hondo. She was born February 29, 1928, in Concan. Graveside services were February 21, in Sabinal Cemetery. Brother Monty Benson officiated.

Maria C. Costilla, age 78 of Devine, passed away Feb. 14, 2011, in San Antonio. She was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Big Foot. Memorial service was Feb. 19, 2011, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Services concluded at the funeral home.

Enrique “Henry” Lugo Dominguez, age 78, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born December 23, 1932, in Hondo. The Rosary was recited Feb. 20 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 21 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Felice Mendoza Dominguez, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left her family and friends Saturday, February 12, 2011. The Rosary was recited Feb. 14 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 15 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John’s Section.

Upon her passing, Mural Mixson DuBose was 88 years, 4 months, and 11 days. She ended her sojourn on this earth in the comfort of her own home in Devine. Her granddaughter, Jeanette Rench, who has lived with her since 1987 and has been her constant companion, and Patsy Cook, her life-long friend and “adopted daughter”, were at her bedside when the Lord received her to Himself on February 6, 2011. She was born September 26, 1922. Memorial service held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 10, at Prevailing Word Church in Lytle.

Juan R. Gomez, age 60 of Natalia, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at home. The Rosary was recited February 9, and Mass was celebrated February 10, both at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Natalia. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Devine.

Helga Anna Thieme Hendricks, age 71 of San Antonio, passed away February 2, 2011, at home. She was born February 2, 1940, in Wetzendorf, Germany. A memorial service was held at Helga’s home 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12.

Irene Catherine Hoog, age 87 of Castroville, passed away in San Antonio and went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 9, 2011. She was born August 2, 1923, in Haubstadt, IN. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Feb. 13 at St. Louis Catholic Church. The Rosary was recited Feb. 14 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment was in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

James Ray Kuehne, age 63 of Florence, TX, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 29, 1947, in Taylor. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held February 8 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Roy Everett Lewis II, age 70 of Hondo, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011. He was born July 26, 1940, in Gulfport, MS. A visitation gathering was held Friday Feb. 18, from 5-8 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel. No formal service was planned.

Dylan Edward Moore, age 2 of San Antonio, passed away February 14, 2011. He was born Feb. 10, 2009, to Phillip and Nicole Moore. He is survived by his parents; brother, Gage; grandmother, Debra Moore of Hondo, and grandfather, Tommy Mayhue of Carthage. Visitation held 6-8 p.m. February 22 at Castle Ridge Mortuary in San Antonio. Funeral held February 23, at 12:30 p.m. Entombment in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Sandra Aguilar Navarrete, loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister, lost her battle with cancer Friday, February 11, 2011, but won the victory to meet her Savior. She was born February 17, 1963, in Hondo. The Rosary was recited Feb. 14, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated February 15 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Moore. Interment was in Moore Catholic Cemetery.

Wilhelmina Schueling Pichot, age 81, passed away February 18, 2011, in Houston. She was born December 19, 1929, in Hondo. The Rosary was recited Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, in San Antonio. Graveside service held Monday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Kenneth R. Powell, 77, passed away February 3, 2011, in San Antonio after a short illness. He was born in Apache, OK. A private celebration of life was held by family.

Ira Spence “Rusty” Rushing Sr. of Manor, passed away February 15, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 17, 1923, in Sabinal. Graveside service was held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville February 19. Service was officiated by Rev. John Lawrence of Mount Calm, TX.

Lester Brucks Saathoff, age 91, of Quihi, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011. He was born in Medina County March 27, 1919. A graveside service began at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Quihi Cemetery on CR 4517.

Fred Sinclair Jr., beloved father, grandfather and uncle, went to be with his Lord Feb. 14, 2011, at the age of 85. He was born in Corpus Christi Sept. 8, 1925. Funeral service was Feb. 18 at St. John Lutheran Church, Pastor Henry Schulte, officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Boerne Cemetery. A reception followed at his son’s home.

Morris Lee Smith, age 68 of Somerset, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, in San Antonio. Funeral service was Feb. 7, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Interment was in Bexar Cemetery, Somerset, with Masonic graveside service under the auspices of Somerset Lodge No. 1205 A.F. & A.M.

Sharon Elaine Eckhart Stobaugh, age 56, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Granbury. She was born July 6, 1954, in Hondo. Funeral service was Feb. 16 at First United Methodist Church, and interment was in Holly Hills Memorial Park, both in Granbury.

Ruth A. Small Watkins, age 76 of Hondo, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. She was born August 19, 1934, in Hagerstown, MD. Funeral service was Monday, February 14, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Samuel Arthur Wheeler, age 91 of Natalia, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, in San Antonio. Funeral service was February 19 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Lucille Hoffmann Wurzbach, age 93 of Castroville, passed away February 12, 2011, in San Antonio. She was born August 11, 1917 in Bexar County. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Feb. 15 at St. Louis Catholic Church. The Rosary was recited Feb. 16 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment was in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Phanon “PK” Banks, age 90 of Devine, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, in Devine. Funeral service was March 15 in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Martha Magdelena Mechler Bippert, age 92 of Castroville, passed away March 14, 2011, in Castroville. She was born July 11, 1918, in western Bexar County. Ernestine Mae Bradshaw, at age 88, of D’Hanis/Hondo went home to be with her Lord, March 26, 2011. Mae was born July 16, 1922, in Salt Lake City, UT. Gravesite burial service was at Fort Sam Houston, where she was laid to rest with her husband, Tom Bradshaw.

Rosa Lee Davenport passed away March 27, 2011, at the home of her son, Michael, with family at her side. She was born Oct. 18, 1919, at the Stoepler Ranch House in Concho County near Eden, TX. Services and burial were held at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. A reception followed for friends and family at the Best Western Hotel in Hondo.

CPL. Charles J. “Chaz” Wren, age 25 of Hondo, died while on active duty Saturday, April 16, 2011, in Nimroz Province, Afghanistan. He was one of three 10th Mountain Division soldiers killed by an improvised explosive device. He was born Oct. 22, 1985, in Austin, the son of Jeffrey Richard and Sherrie Patricia Tondre Wren. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 27, at First Baptist Church, Hondo. Interment with full military honors was at Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section.

SFC Hubert William Jackson, (U.S. Army retired), age 72 of Hondo, passed away July 18, 2011, in San Antonio. He was born Oct. 26, 1938, in Lawton, OK. Memorial service was July 23 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Services concluded at the funeral home.

Willis Spears Kimmons, age 86 of Brownsville, passed away July 12, 2011, in Mission. At his request, no funeral was held, but rather a celebration and barbeque where many friends and family gathered to remember “Kim” and tell stories of how he impacted their lives. The Border Patrol extended family provided a “kitchen on wheels,” along with a cord of mesquite. The Border Patrol’s Honor Guard held a 21-gun salute with presentation of the United States Flag to his family, bagpipes intoned “Amazing Grace,” and finally, a lone bugler paid the last and greatest honor given to a fallen patriot by our country and his fellow servicemen by playing “Taps.” The following day, again at his request, the family and many friends boarded a “pirate” ship at Port Isabel and set sail into the Gulf of Mexico to spread his ashes. Upon the ship’s return to shore, a couple of dolphins arrived as escorts, and all felt Kim was also guiding them home. “
