Joseph Anderson, age 78, of San Antonio, passed away on January 31, 2006. He was born on September 7, 1927.    A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Somerset.

Violet Hunt Benefiel, age 93, of La Coste passed away Jan. 26, 2006, in Castroville. Violet was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Cuero.    Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment was at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.

Connie Dee Briscoe, age 40, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in San Antonio. Funeral service is pending.  Hurley Funeral Home, Devine

Esther Cortez, age 81, of D'Hanis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006.  A Rosary was recited and a Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis.  Interment followed in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

John Anthony Coyle, age 82, of Hondo passed away Jan. 29, 2006. John was born Sept. 25, 1923, in San Antonio.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Catholic Section.

John Ralph Davenport, age 87,  passed away Jan. 27, 2006, in Leander. He was born on Nov. 17, 1918, in Hondo.    Funeral service was held Monday, Jan.  30,  at 1 p.m.  at the Southeast Church of Christ, 5860 US Highway 87 East, San Antonio, with Patrick Andrews, minister, as efficient and Gene Helm of Kerrville as director of congregational singing.      Committal service was conducted at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, at 3 p.m. Monday.

Keith Duderstadt, born March 2, 1934, in Hondo, passed away Jan. 25, 2006.   Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 601 W. Braker Lane, Austin.

Christopher Lee Eccles, 28, of Sacramento, CA, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006.   He was born in Lynwood, CA, on Feb. 4, 1977. A Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor David Mayer, was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo.

Agnes Cecilia Echtle, age 79, of La Coste passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006.      Agnes was born Feb. 18, 1926, in La Coste.  The Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home open for visitation on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste.  The Funeral Mass on Friday, Jan. 20, 2 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

Clara Beatrice Gast of Hondo, age 68, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at home. She was born May 29, 1922.  Memorial service was officiated by Rev. Beverly Burk and Rev. Ricky Burk, and was at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the First United Methodist Church of Hondo.

Lester Benjamin Gerdes Sr., age 87, of Spring Branch, formerly of Uvalde, passed away Jan. 29, 2006 in NC Baptist Hospital, San Antonio. He was born in Hondo on Feb. 12, 1918.   Graveside service was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. with Rev. Jerry Scott officiating, at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Bernice Mae Goforth, age 95, of Dilley, Devine and formerly of Yancey, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born in Stonewall County, May 10, 1910.   Graveside service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Yancey Cemetery with Linda Adams officiating.

Conception Gonzales,78, passed away Jan. 14, 2006.  Visitation was Monday, Jan. 16, at Hondo Funeral Home and at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in San Antonio with Rosary recited at 7 p.m.  Funeral Mass was at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Henry Gonzales, age 48, of Hondo, passed away, Jan. 21, 2006.  A memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Hondo Funeral Home.

William Jim Harris, age 92, of Sabinal passed away Jan. 10, 2006, at Amistad Nursing Home. He was born November 5,1913, in Cleburne.  Funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Sabinal. Interment  in the Sabinal Cemetery.

Edward A. Hartung Jr., age 88, of Somerset passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006. in Somerset.   Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Heickman Cemetery.

LaRue Noton Hedrick, age 89, of Hondo, passed away Jan. 19, 2006. She was born March 21, 1916.  The Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Beverly Burk, was at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel.

James H. Hiler Jr., age 53, of Uvalde passed away on Jan. 29, 2006. He was born on May 18, 1952, in San Antonio.    A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Uvalde.

Billie Jean Hilsher, age 77, passed away Jan. 4, 2006.      She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in San Antonio.  Funeral service, officiated by Pastor David Mayer, was held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Interment was at 2:15 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

James Roy Kile, age 88, of Issaquah, WA, formerly of D'Hanis and Hondo, passed away on Jan. 14, 2006, after a short illness.     Memorial services Feb. 18 at 2p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Taylor, Texas.

Dominga DeLeon Maldonado, age 70, of D'Hanis passed away Jan. 7, 2006.  She was born Mar. 3, 1935, in Yancey.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo. Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Jeff Pehl, was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Marcelino Jessie Martinez, Jr., age 53, of Castroville,  passed away Jan. 15, 2006, in Hondo. Marcelino was born June 2, 1952, in Castroville.  A Rosary was  recited on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel in Castroville. Funeral Mass Thursday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment after Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Daniel John Neslony Sr. of San Antonio passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Devine. Visitation held Sunday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home from 2 until 9 p.m.    Graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, with interment after.

Andrew J. Patterson, age 93, of Luling, passed away Jan. 16, 2006.   A funeral service was held Jan. 19, 2006.  O'Bannon Funeral Home 

Angelita Olivarez Puente, age 76,  of Hondo, formerly of Sabinal, passed away on Jan. 17, 2006, at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sabinal with Rev. Jeff Pehl officating.  

Elias Reyes, age 84, of Hondo, passed away Jan. 7, 2006.   Visitation from10- 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Hondo Funeral Home. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment  in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Chief Ernie Lee Rice, age 52, of Natalia passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, in San Antonio after a battle with cancer.  At the time of his death, Ernie Rice was police chief of the City of Natalia, and had been for many years.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at  the First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment was at Moore Memorial  Cemetery.

Irma Teresa Rivas-Estrella , 58, of Devine passed away Sunday, Jan.  22, 2006, in San Antonio.  Rosary was recited Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the Chapel  of the Hurley  Funeral Home, Devine. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devine.

Elpidio A. Rodriguez, Sr., age 79, of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in San Antonio at the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital.  He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Hondo.  The Rosary was recited on Friday, Jan. 20, at Guinn-Horger Chapel and the Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Jeff Pehl, was at said on Saturday, Jan. 21 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Ferdinand Louis "Ferd" Rothe of D'Hanis, age 84, passed away Jan.11, 2006, at his ranch home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1922, in D'Hanis,  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15,  and the Funeral Mass, was at 10 a.m. Monday, both at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. The services were officiated by Fr Wallis J. Stiles, Msgr. George Steuben and Msgr. Roy Rihn. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Evelyn May Ryan, age 84, of Suffolk, England, passed away on Jan. 27, 2006.   Funeral service was held in England on Feb. 7.

Patricio Salazar, age 80, of San Antonio, formerly of Hondo, passed away, Jan. 23, 2006..    A prayer service was at 7 p.m. Friday  Jan. 27, officiated by Pastor Daniel Urrutia. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Hondo Funeral Home. Interment followed at the Yancey Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Honor Guard from Ft. Sam Houston.

Eusebio Salinas Sr., age 81, of Castroville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006.   Eusebio was born Dec. 16, 1924, in San Antonio.   Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home open for visitation on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rosary and Funeral Mass held Friday, Jan. 20, 10 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church. Maria Valle Sepulveda, age 84, of Devine passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at her residence.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. Joseph's  Catholic Church. Interment  in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Homer VanHeuverswyn, age 75, of Webster, formerly of Natalia, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, in Clear Lake.   Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Lytle. Interment with Masonic Graveside Service, under the auspices of Atasacosa Lodge #379 A.F. & A.M., followed at the Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Randy Mack Waters, age 48, of Mico passed away Jan. 24, 2006. Randy was born July 26, 1957, in San Antonio.    Memorial service Saturday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at Honey Creek Cave on Gass Ranch, 2350 Park Road 31, near Bergheim.

Clara Amalia (Schott) Bippert, age 99, of Mico,  passed away Feb. 20, 2006. Clara was born Oct. 24, 1906, in Medina County.  Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Lowelle E. Brister, age 88, of Castroville passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Castroville. Lowelle was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Electra.  Memorial service will  Monday, Feb. 13, 1 p.m., at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel in Castroville. The chapel open at 12 noon, prior to the memorial service.

Phillip Bullard, age 65, of Castroville passed away Feb. 6, 2006, at home.      Phillip was born July 7, 1940, in Cleveland, OH.   Memorial service held Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Castroville. Committal service Friday, Feb. 10, 9:15 a.m., at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Daunt Lee Connell, age 34, of Wichita, KS, passed away Feb. 5, 2006. He was born March 20, 1971, in San Antonio.   Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park.

Cherry Pairett Cook, age 86, of Lytle passed away Feb. 28, 2006. She lived, in her own words, "a good long life."   She was  born May 9, 1919, in Milano.   Graveside service was held Saturday, Mar. 4, at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, with Pastor Rodney Schuler officiating. 

Cresencio "Robert" Davila, age 80, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at his residence.  Rosary  recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home,  Devine. Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Joseph¹s Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Louise DePuy passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006.  She was born Nov. 12, 1917, in El Paso.   Graveside service  at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at Marfa Cemetery in Marfa.

James "Jimmy" Escamilla of D'Hanis, passed away Feb. 24, 2006, at the age of 52, in San Antonio.   He was born August 27, 1953, in Hondo.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel and the Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Jeff Pehl, 10 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 2, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo.  Interment at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Donald Duane "Frenchy" French Jr., age 61, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at his home.      He was born Sept. 17, 1944, in San Antonio.      Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel in Hondo. Interment  in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Pascuala Garcia of D'Hanis, age 83, passed away Feb. 13, 2006, in San Antonio.   She was born Oct. 30, 1922, in D'Hanis.    Rosary was recited at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, prior to the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Both services were officiated by Fr. Wallis J. Stiles. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Wilfredo Gonzales, age 40, of Devine, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born April 29, 1965, in Laredo.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Jose F. Puente officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Alan Ray Grizzard, age 53, of Devine, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born Sept. 3, 1952, in Texas.  Graveside service was at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Evergreen Cemetery.

Leonarda Garcia Guerra of D'Hanis,  age 84, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, in Hondo. She was born April 18, 1921, in D'Hanis.  The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis.  Both services were officiated by Rev. Wallis J. Stiles. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery in D'Hanis.

Jeffrey Wayne Hilsher, 51, of St. Louis, MO, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, after having undergone triple bypass surgery earlier in the week.  A memorial service will be held in St. Louis, Friday, Mar. 3.

Amos James Hitzfelder, 81, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Feb. 23, Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with interment at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Johnny Joseph Hoffmann, age 80, of Rio Medina  passed away Feb. 10, 2006. Johnny was born August 12, 1925, in the community of Culebra, west of San Antonio.  Rosary was recited Sunday, Feb. 12, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Tondre- Guinn Chapel. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Church in Castroville. Interment will was at St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Jack Hutton, age 88, of Devine passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2005.    Funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the chapel of  Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. 

Willetta Margaret (Mackey) Ligon, 82, of Hondo passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2006. She was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Austin.     Visitation from 6  until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home.  Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, at West End Baptist Church in Hondo. Interment  in Cottonwood Cemetery.

Marion C. Lytle, age 77, of Hondo, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006.   Graveside service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Gladys Anne (Halty) Mann of Hondo, age 84, passed away Feb. 17, 2006, in Hondo.  She was born March 10, 1921, in Castroville.  Rosary was recited at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, followed by the Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Entombment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.

Charles Fritz Martin, age 88, passed away February 24, 2006. He was born on January 1, 1918.   Family and friends gathered at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at a graveside service at Mission Burial Park North, in San Antonio.

Bryan Vaughn Mattox, age 75, passed away on February 21, 2006, at his home while recovering from hip replacement surgery. He was born on March 25, 1930, in Jasper.   Graveside service with military honors was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Rio Frio Cemetery.

James "Jim" Lloyd McCoy Sr., age 65, of Lytle, passed away Feb. 22, 2006, at his home. Jim was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Aransas Pass.  The Prayer Service was held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Services concluded at the funeral home.

Mrs. G. K. (Beth) Park, age 84, of Natalia passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006,  in Devine. Visitation Friday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral service  at 10 a.m., Saturday,  Feb. 11, in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine.  Interment  at the Masonic Cemetery in Lytle.

Oswald H. "Ozzie" Poerner, age 93, passed away  on Feb. 3, 2006.  Funeral mass was celebrated by Msgr. Raymond Garcia at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, at St. John's Catholic Church, San Antonio. A Rosary and Entombment took place at Holy Cross Catholic Mausoleum Chapel, Feb. 7. 

Andrea Mary (Mumme) Proctor passed away at her rural Hondo home Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.
She was born in Hondo  Oct. 13, 1938.  The funeral service, officiated by Pastor David Mayer, was at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Esteban Rendon of Hondo, age 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Hondo.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Jeff Pehl, was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Alfred Alvin Saathoff, age 101, of Hondo, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at the age of 101, in Hondo.  He was born Nov. 1, 1904, in Hondo.  Funeral service, officiated by Pastor Stephen Schur, was at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment was at Quihi Cemetery.

Alton Louis Schlentz, age 81, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006,  in San Antonio.  He was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Hondo.  Funeral service, officiated by Pastor Charles Schlentz, was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Stephen Michael Tompkins of Kerrville, age 33, passed away Feb. 13, 2006, in Kerrville. He was born Oct. 15, 1972, in San Antonio.  A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo with Pastor Michael Puckett of Yancey Baptist Church
officiating.

Catherine "Kitty" Hoog Tondre, born July 8, 1925, in Castroville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006.   Funeral Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. The Rosary recited Thursday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church. Interment at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Edward E. Ward passed away Tuesday  Feb. 28, 2006, after a prolonged illness.   Ed was born in Yancey, on April 16, 1931.   A memorial was held March 3,  at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary in Santa Maria, CA.

Melba M. (Mussman) Weynand of D¹Hanis and Hondo, age 85, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Childress. Melba was born Oct. 20, 1920,  in Hondo.   The funeral service, officiated by Pastor David Mayer, was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

George Whitlow, age 79, passed away February 1, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born June 24, 1926.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at Roy Akers-Zizik Kerns Funeral Chapels. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church. Interment followed at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Thelka Stolte Wurzbach, age 93, of Dunlay passed away Feb. 4, 2006, in Hondo.    Thelka was born Mar. 9, 1912, in Zuehl.   Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 8.   Funeral service held on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville. Interment  at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.

Raul Abrego, age 73, of Rockford, IL, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his home.   He was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Hondo.  Funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 16, at Honquest Funeral Homes, 4211 North Mulford Rd, Rockford, Il 61111.

Dorothy Lee (Muennink) Beard of Hondo passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the age of 60, in San Antonio. Jack Bond, age 90, of Gatesville, and formerly of Natalia, passed away Friday, March 10, 2006, in Temple. He was born in Coryell County, Dec. 27, 1915.   Graveside services were Sunday, March 12, at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating.

Clint Dowell, age 80, long-time resident of Bandera, passed away Saturday, Mar. 11, 2006, in Cedar Creek Nursing Center, Bandera.   He was born in Glen Rose, on Oct. 24, 1925.   Funeral service was held Monday, Mar. 13, 2006, at Grimes Funeral Chapel with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. Clint was laid to rest in Bandera Cemetery with graveside service.     

Margaret Lee Evans, age 82, of Bandera, passed away Friday, Mar. 24, 2006, at her residence.  She was born on April 12, 1923, in Kerrville.   Services were held March 30, at Bandera United Methodist Church, with Rev. Everett Boyce officiating. Interment followed in Bandera Cemetery.

Jacob Fisher, age 30, of Hondo, formerly of Sudan/Muleshoe, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Hondo. Marilyn Sue (Vincent) Freier of Quihi/Hondo passed away March 8, 2006, at the age of 65. She was born October 3, 1940, in Nederland. Graveside service, officiated by Frank Perkins, minister, was Saturday Mar. 11, at the Hondo Cemetery, Oak-wood Section.

Alton Edward Haile of Hondo passed away on March 29, 2006, at the age of 82, in Hondo.    He was born Sept. 21, 1923, in San Antonio.   The memorial service, officiated by Michael Weaver and  Pastor Charlie Parker, was Saturday, Apr. 1, at the New Fountain United Methodist Church. A gathering of family and friends followed in the church activity center.

Linda Nell Haynes Schmidt, age 62, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, Mar. 28, 2006, at her home.     She was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Johnson City.  The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Marion Martin Schneider, age 80, of Castroville, passed away Mar. 24, 2006. Mary E. Dubose Stehle, age 77, of Devine passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006.   Funeral service was held Wednesday, Mar. 22, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with Dr. T. Glenn Young and Pastor Myron Ricketts officiating.  Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Msgr. George H. Stuebben Jr., age 77, longtime church leader, passed away March 1, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born in San Antonio on Dec. 23, 1928.   Rosary was Sunday, Mar. 5, at St. John Neumann Parish, followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving, celebrated by his brother, Lawrence, with homily delivered by Msgr. Emil J. Wesselsky. Archbishop José  H. Gomez was principal celebrant at the Mass of Thanksgiving on Monday, Mar. 6, at St. Joseph's Church Downtown. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Society Cemetery. Concelebrants  were priests of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, classmates of his, and military chaplains.  Msgr. Lawrence J. Stuebben delivered the homily. 

Lois Anne Taft, age 76, of Leavenworth, KS, formerly of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Mar. 8, 2006. She was born May 29, 1929.    Interment was at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antono.

George Sidney Taylor, Sr. of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2006, at the age of 62, in San Antonio.  He was born Jan. 12, 1944.  Funeral service, officiated by Pastor Charles Parker ,was Monday, Mar. 27, at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the New Fountain Cemetery.

Pedro A. Treviño Sr., age 71, of  Uvalde, passed away March 31, 2006. He was born on Feb. 24, 1935, in Hondo.  Mass of the resurrection was celebrated Monday, Apr. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Ken Dakin officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

Tommy Lee Blanton, age 68, of the Brown Ranch Community north of Hondo, died Saturday, April 29, 2006. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Neil Allen Briscoe, Jr., age 75,  passed away on Tuesday, April 4,  2006, after a brief battle with cancer. His wife and son were by his side.    Neil was born in Devine in his family's home on Thursday, February 26, 1931.    Funeral service was held Friday, April 7, at First  Baptist Church of Devine, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Dr. T. Glenn Young officiated.

Sotero "Joe" Cabrera of Yancey passed away Friday, April 21, 2006, at the age of 65.  Rosary was recited Sunday, April 23, at Hondo Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment was at Yancey Cemetery.

Viola Emabell Calk of San Antonio passed away at her home on Friday, April 14, 2006, at the age of 83. She was born March 25, 1923, in Hondo.  Funeral Service was held Monday, April 17, at the Los Angeles Heights United Methodist Church, in San Antonio. Interment was at New Fountain Cemetery.

Manuela Resendez Castro, 84, of Devine passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006.   A Memorial Service  held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Devine Community Center.

Carol Cotton of Bossier City, LA, died at his home after a lengthy illness on April 1, 2006, at the age of 74.   Graveside service was held Friday, April 7, at Quihi Cemetery, Quihi.

Elsa Garcia of San Antonio,  went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2006, at the age of 84. Hazel Easterling Fletcher Haby, age 92, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of Castroville, passed away April 27, 2006, in Sun City Center. Mary Ellison Harris, age 89, of Lockhart, died April 14, 2006. Von Vernor, age 66, of Uvalde passed away April 28, 2006, in San Antonio after a long struggle with cancer. Bernard  Arnold "Bernie" Zerr, age 66, of Apopka, FL, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, April 5, 2006, surrounded by his family and friends. Bernie was born in Hondo on Feb. 24, 1940.   Funeral service was held Monday, April 10, at Trinity Baptist Church.   A memorial  held at St. John's Catholic Church on May 6 at 4 p.m.

Baby Estrella Faith Arizola, of Hondo, passed away May 30, at the age of two months.  Baby Estrella was preceded in death by her brother, baby Juan Martin Arizola III.  Survivors include her parents, Juan Martin Arizola Jr. and Amanda Hammond Arizola.   Visitation  from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Hondo Funeral Home. Susan Alleen (Burleson) Bailey, entered into eternal rest  May 3, 2006, in Arlington. She was born August 1, 1927, near Hunt.   Funeral service was held at Monday, May 8, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Littlefield officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park.

Adolpho Lopez Botello, age 60, of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. He was born January 12, 1946, in San Antonio.    The Rosary was recited Friday, May 26, and the funeral Service was held Saturday, May 27, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Bernard Edward Echtle, age 83, of La Coste, passed away May 17, 2006, in San Antonio. Bernard was born July 6, 1922, in La Coste.  Rosary was recited on Friday, May 19, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Edith Weldon Harris, age 78, passed away at her residence in La Coste, Tuesday, May 2, 2006.  Funeral service was held Thursday, May 4, at 1 p.m., at Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Interment was at First Memorial Park Cemetery in Bexar County.

Lucia G. Hernandez, age 84, of Hondo passed away on Monday, May 1, 2006. She was born December 13, 1928, in Hondo.   Rosary was recited Thursday, May 4, and the Funeral Mass was Friday, May 5, both at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Frances Roberta Holland, 88, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006. She was born March 11, 1918, in Devine,  where she grew up.  Graveside service was held Monday, May  22 in Devine Cemetery, Devine.

Ralph Ray Horner, 74, of Hondo, passed away May 31, 2006 from Alzheimer's complications. He was born June 2, 1931, in Claremore, OK.    His wishes were to be cremated and there will be no services at his request.

David R. Martinez, age 74, of Atascosa, passed away May 19, 2006, at his home. David was born April 9, 1932, in San Antonio.  Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Sunday, May 21, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Jerry McKinney died in a rafting accident on the Animas River near Farming-ton, NM, on May 26, 2006. A High Mass was celebrated in Albuquerque at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church on May 29, 2006. A Memorial Service and burial were held in Farmington, NM, on May 31, 2006. He was 68.   He was born on Sept. 17, 1937, in Esperanza in West Texas and grew up in Uvalde, Texas, 70 miles west of San Antonio.

Gene A. Methvin, 64, of Santa Fe, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006, in a Conroe hospital. He was born February 9, 1942, in Kerrville.   Graveside service was on Wednesday, May 31, at 10 a.m. at Center Point Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Barry Methvin.

Simplicia R. Olivares, age 95, of Sabinal died May 10, 2006, at Amistad nursing Home. Sgt. Jeffery Scott Wiekamp, of Utopia, stationed at Ft. Drum, NY, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2006, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, at the age of 23.  Survivors include his wife, Ashley Wiekamp of Ft. Annie Brucks Bendele, age 82, passed away on June 21, 2006, while at Regency Village Care Center in Austin. She was born in Quihi, on February 14, 1924. At the age of 20, Robert “Bob” B. Brown began a long, successful career in the automotive business, eventually owning five dealerships with nine franchises in four cities. Brown, 72, passed away Friday, June 30, 2006, in a San Antonio hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born April 21, 1934, in Norfolk, VA. Lorenza Mendoza Cuellar of Hondo, passed away on June 20, 2006, at the age of 80. She was born September 5, 1925, in Hondo. William “Bill” Dowda, age 71, of Castroville passed away June 28, 2006. William was born Sept. 10, 1934, in San Antonio. A memorial service was held at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville, on Monday, July 3.  

Kenneth “Kenny” Ersch, age 50, of Fredericksburg suffered a heart attack and died on Sunday, July 2, 2006. Ersch served as Hondo Owl Band director for several years. A memorial service held Thursday, July 7, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 110 East San Antonio, in Fredericksburg

Israel Galindo, age 14, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006, in an automobile accident in which his uncle, Amador Salazar of San Angelo, also died. Israel was born in San Angelo, Aug. 2, 1991. He recently graduated from 8th grade at D’Hanis. He is survived by his parents, George and Nellie Salazar Galindo; brother, Ryan Galindo; and sister, Shaila Galindo, all of D’Hanis; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Gerald Lynn “Jerry” Rock, a native son of Hondo, died on June 23, 2006, in Marengo, Illinois, losing his 15-month battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Hondo, on July 14, 1948. A celebration of his life was held July 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at Mary-ville Academy, Des Plaines, IL. His family in Texas will honor his memory in a Memorial Mass on his birthday, Friday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 13715 Riggs Rd., Helotes.

Santos María Urrabazo Rodríguez, aged 90, of D’Hanis, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2006, in San Antonio. Mrs. Rodriguez was born in D’Hanis on April 21, 1916. Deacon Robert Garza, cousin of the family, led the rosary on Wednesday, June 28 at Holy Cross Church. Fr. W. Stiles celebrated the funeral mass on Thursday morning at Holy Cross. Deacon Garza assisted and presented the sermon. William Rodriguez and Mary Rodriguez Wagner presented the eulogy. Granddaughters Jennie Wagner Kennedy and Christina Rodriguez, had the readings and Carmen Pruneda and Martina Watson led the Responsorial Psalm. Younger grandchildren presented the gifts. Interment followed at San Francisco Cemetery in D’Hanis.

Ruby Elsie Teer, age 84, of Hondo,  passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006. She was born July 14, 1921, on the family ranch near Tarpley.  Funeral service was Friday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Oak-wood Section.

Jo Ann Tschirhart, age 63, passed away June 1, 2006, at home. Jo Ann, a native of San Antonio, was born August 4, 1942.  The Rosary was recited Friday, June 2. Maxine Jeanelle Endsley Williams, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, and has reunited with family and friends in Heaven. She was born in Paonia, Colorado on May 17, 1922. Margaret Ann Knopp Braham passed away July 29, 2006. She was born March 4, 1923, in Nixon. The family moved to Hondo in 1925. James Andrew “Jim” Gabe-hart of Hondo passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at the age of 92. He was born in Chickasaw, OK, March 2, 1914. Marvin Joe Robertson, age 64, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, after a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was born July 11, 1942, in Hondo. Anthony ‘Tony’ Nickachos, age 86, died Sept. 30, 2006, in Athens, Greece. He resided in Mesa, AZ, at the time of his death. A Greek Orthodox funeral, including a U.S. Naval service, was held October 3 in Athens. A second-generation Greek-American, Tony was granted honorary Greek citizenship following his death. A memorial service held at noon, Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at New Fountain United Methodist Church and Cemetery, where his remains interred in the plot of the Hardt family.

Mabel “Eileene” Wilcox, formerly of Lytle, was born on August 15, 1923 and passed away in Seattle on Sept. 10, 2006, at the age of 83, after a brief battle with Cancer. Eileene was best known for being the proud Owner of The Wagon Wheel in Lytle, for over 20 Years. A Gravesite service was held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Lytle Community Cemetery at noon.

Tee Murphy - Tee passed away in the hospital in Atlanta, TX on Sept. 19, 2006. She had recently moved to Bloomburg to be near her family. She was well known in the Sabinal, Hondo, D’Hanis areas. Going before her were her husband “Spud”, mother, father, and brother.

Russell M. Peters, age 84, of Hondo passed away in St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006. He died of complications following cancer surgery. Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo with Rev. Charles Parker officiating.

Lt. Col. Robert W. Rivers, U.S. Air Force-retired, age 90, of Kingsland, died October 23, 2006. He was born September 29, 1916, in Andover, NH. Joseph Othell Batto passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 at his home in Cedar Hill. He was born on April 6, 1939.

Anita Soliz Borrego, long- time resident of San Antonio, entered into rest peacefully on the evening of Dec. 19, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born in Yancey on Sept. 29, 1938. Visitation and prayer services were held in her honor Dec. 21 in San Antonio. Funeral service was held Dec. 22, at the Yancey Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mariachis led a walking procession of her family and friends to her final resting place in the Yancey Community Cemetery.

Ima Jean Brown, born Sept. 10, 1923, in Hondo, passed away Dec. 13, 2006, in San Antonio.  A viewing was held Sunday evening at the Trevino Funeral home, 226 Cupples Rd. in San Antonio from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 2103 St. Cloud in San Antonio on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. The body was viewed there from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at which time the services were conducted by her nephew Danny Lee Brown. Dedication of the grave was performed by her former brother-in-law, Marcus Brown. Interment followed at the Ingleside Cemetery in Hondo.

Carrie Lucille Van Fleet Burgess, age 92, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, in San Antonio. She was born on June 21, 1914, in Hondo. Graveside services were held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend David Green officiating.

Sgt Javier Gurrusquieta, age 25, of Hondo passed away in an automobile accident on December 25, 2006. Javier had served two tours in Iraq and was scheduled for a third tour in Novemeber, 2007. Benjamin Jett Mechler Huron died at birth and was delivered to Jesus on Dec. 15, 2006. Jean Lunetta Miller of Crystal City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2006 at the age of 91. Memorial reception at 11:30 a.m., Dec. 29 in Jean’s home, 1202 E. Valverde. A complete obituary will follow next week.

Reyes Miranda, age 61 of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Hondo. He was born April 29, 1945, in Hondo. Rosary was led by Alleen Koch and Ramona Koch Saturday, Dec. 30, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Christine “Chris” (Boyle) Mitchell, age 60, of rural Hondo passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at her home. She was born April 19, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. A Rosary was recited at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 310 FM 2200, in D’Hanis. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles will officiate.

Henry Emil Mueller, age 80, of La Coste, passed away Dec. 11, 2006, at home. Henry was born Feb. 8, 1926, in La Coste. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rosary  held on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Mass on Friday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste.

Maria “Mary” Cisneros Perales, age 78, of Castroville, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 2, 2006 in Castroville. Mary was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Castroville.  The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the Rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Patricia L. “Pat” Pritchard, age 69, of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Yancey, entered into eternal life Dec. 8, 2006, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Care Center in Louisville. She was born March 13, 1937 in Kansas City, MO. A memorial service will take place in Yancey at a later time. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Tito C. Reyes, MSgt., USAF Reserve, Retired, a long-time resident of Lytle, departed this life on December 9, 2006. MSgt. Reyes was born February 6, 1926. A funeral mass was celebrated, Wednesday, Dec. 13, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Lytle. Internment  at Lytle Community Cemetery.

Edith Nora Moore Rupp, age 62, of Moore passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at her residence.  Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 7 from 2 -9 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine.  Graveside services  conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend; Janie C. Saucedo born July 20, 1952, in Castroville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2006 at the age of 54 years.  The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home was open for Visitation on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. The Rosary was recited Sunday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment followed the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, La Coste.

Mercedes Nicole Sherwood, age 18, of Mico died in an automobile accident on Dec. 17, 2006.  She had recently completed her senior year at Hondo High School.  Mercedes is survived by her mother, Lois E. Graff; father Lloyd L. Sherwood.  Visitation  held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Hondo Funeral Home.

Tammy Leona Harris VanScoyk-Stanhope, age 31, of Hondo passed away Dec. 16, 2006.  Visitation  held Thursday, Dec. 21, 4 - 9 p.m. at Hondo Funeral Home. Prayer service held at 7:30 p.m.

Shirley Richardson Swindler, age 72, of Castroville, passed away Dec. 10, 2006 with her family at her bedside. Shirley was born Dec. 1, 1934 in Covington, TN. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Castroville First Baptist Church in Castroville. Interment  at Castroville Community Cemetery, Castroville.

Norman Joseph Tondre, age 70, of LaCoste, passed away December 31, 2006, at his home. Norman was born November 20, 1936, in rural La Coste, Bexar County. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, from noon to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A graveside service Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in La Coste.

Jerry Paul Walker, age 64 of Lytle, passed away Dec. 21, 2006 in San Antonio. He was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Hamlin. Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 22 from 2 until 9 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Natalia, with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine
