Grace Montgomery Allen, age 88, of Uvalde passed Jan. 29, 2003, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sept. 28, 1914, in Loleta.   Graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. M. E. O'Neill officiating.

Ferdinand M. "Ferdie" Batot, 60, of Mountain Home passed away Jan. 23, 2003, in a San Antonio hospital.  Born Oct. 22, 1942, in Denver, CO, he had been a longtime resident of the Hondo/Kerrville area.      The family suggests memorials be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, 1145 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028, or to Heart of the Hills Baptist Fellowship, 11 Camino Real, Kerrville TX 78028.

Eluterio C. Camacho, age 81, of Devine passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. He was born April 18, 1921, in Devine.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating.  Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Irene Constante, age 79, of Hondo passed away Jan. 25, 2003. She was born in Hondo, Nov. 8, 1923.     Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m Tuesday, Jan. 28, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Both services were at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Gabriel Y. Gonzales, age 89, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio. He was born in LaCoste, March 8, 1913.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 with auspices by Pablo Carreon Jr. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

John William Grothues, Sr., age 76, of Lytle, passed away Thursday morning Jan. 16, 2003,   in San Antonio. He was born Mar. 31, 1926, in   San Antonio.  Visitation was Friday, Jan. 17,  from 5 to 8 p.m. and the Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel in Castroville.  Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Lytle. Interment was at the Lytle Community Cemetery.
 
Lorine F. Haby  of Hondo, passed away January 8, 2003, in the Regent Care Center Nursing Home in San Antonio, at the age of 83.  The Rosary was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Entombment was in the St. John Mausoleum in Hondo.

Willis Louise Loessberg, 87, of Lytle was called home to Gods glorious kingdom on Jan. 29, 2003. She was born August 28, 1915, in Charlotte.      Visitation was Friday, Jan. 31, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 1, 10:30 a.m., at the Lytle Methodist Church. Interment was at the Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

John Henry Muennink, age 76, of Hondo passed away Jan. 22, 2003.   Visitation was held 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was held  at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment  in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Jose Maria Silva, age 70, of D'Hanis passed away Jan. 19, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Concepcion on Nov. 7, 1932.      Rosary was at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, with Father Wallis Stiles officiating. Both services were at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis.

Jose Alfonso B. Torres, age 75, of Hondo passed away Jan. 6, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Mexico on Oct. 28, 1927.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, led by Epifania Ybarra.  Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Both services were at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed the Mass in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Crystal Rose Walch, age 72, of Hondo passed away Jan. 26, 2003.     Funeral service was at 10:30  a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Lester M. Zerr, age 88, of D'Hanis passed away Jan. 12, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in D'Hanis on May 24, 1914.   Rosary was at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Wallis Stiles officiating.  Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Paul Zinsmeister  of Harper, passed away on Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his residence at the age of 37 years.  The body lay in state in the chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home, Fredericksburg until 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, with mass of  resurrection at 10 a.m. in the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Harper, with the Rev. Eduardo Morales officiating. Interment followed in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Harper.

February 2003

Santos Barron, age 75, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio, Feb. 17, 2003. He was born in Hondo, April 16, 1927.      Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, led by Richard Edminson. Funeral Mass was at 2 p.m. Friday, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

John Henry Batot, Sr., Sr., age 63, of San Antonio passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2003,  in San Antonio. He was born August 7, 1939, in Hondo.    Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.  and the Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.   Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment followed in the Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section, in Hondo.

Lois Lee Ratliff Bell  was born on June 5, 1919, in Denton. She went to be with our Lord on Feb. 1, 2003.      Service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels with Rev. Ron Vanderweert officiating. Interment followed in Hondo City Cemetery.

David Wayne Billebault, born July 7, 1961, in San Antonio, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 9, 2003, after he lost his fight with cancer.      Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Hurley
Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Zelda Faye Bonam, age 62,  of San Antonio passed away  Monday, Feb. 17, 2003.      She died as the result of an automobile accident in Louisiana as she and her husband traveled to a revival meeting where they were to be guest speakers.       Visitation was Friday and funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Sunset Northwest Chapel, San Antonio, with Dr. Tom Heath, Dr. Joe Sharp and Rev. Don Stone officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park.

Marvin Wesley Camp, age 87, of La Coste passed away Feb. 26, 2003, in Castroville. He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Temple.  Funeral service was held Saturday, Mar. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment   followed the service in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.

Everardo Ramos Casarez, age 62, of San Antonio passed away Feb. 27, 2003. He was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Mexico.      Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 1, in Castillo Mission Funeral Home, San Antonio. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
 
Celia Castillo, age 61, of Baytown, passed away Feb. 26, 2003. She was born Mar. 2, 1941.   Service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 1, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Interment followed in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Thomas "Tom" H. Coggin, age 90, of Devine passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. He was born in Bigfoot, Mar. 23, 1912.      Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Minister James Wilson officiating. Interment was in Brummett Cemetery, Bigfoot.

Frances Rutiaga Faseler, age 54, passed away Feb. 27, 2003, while at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was born in Raymondville, on June 1, 1948.  Funeral  service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 1, at First United Methodist Church, Raymondville, with James Schendel officiating. Interment followed at Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Leroy Alfred Faseler was born in Yancey. He died at Chandler Estates Hospice Hospital in San Antonio on Feb. 19, 2003, at the age of 82.     Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Yancey United Methodist Church, led by Butch Morgan and David Crabtree, assisted by A.V. McCrea and Rick Peterson and a choir of family members accompanied by pianist Vi Faseler. Interment was in Yancey Cemetery.

Raul G. "Roy" Fernandez, age 60, of Devine passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Devine, Dec. 22, 1942.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at St. Jospeh's Catholic
Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Jacob Ryan "J.R." Gooding, age 24, of New Braunfels passed away Feb. 19, 2003. He was born in Hondo, Sept. 8, 1978.      Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, led by George Randall, a Navy chaplain. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, with military honors.

Francis David Howard, affectionately known as "Chink" to his friends, passed away Feb. 1,2003, in San Antonio, at the  age 80.      He was born Sept. 10, 1922,  in Eagle Pass.     Graveside service was at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 7, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery led by George Randall, minister, Church of Christ, Hondo.

Loney C. Jennings, age 86, of Belton died in a Belton nursing center Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. She was born October 19, 1916,  in Bandera County.      Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating.  Graveside service was held at 4 p.m. in the Tarpley Cemetery in Tarpley.

Chistopher Edward Johnson  of Helotes passed away Feb. 7, 2003, at the age of 15.      He is survived by parents, Gary E. and Nancy Ann (Finger) Johnson; brother and sister, Jacob Allan and Jessica Ann; grandparents, Jack and Jurleen Finger, all of Helotes, and Al and Sally Jurek of Saginaw, MI.     Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Mary Alvina Mann, age 80, of Devine passed away, Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in Devine. She was born in Fay, OK, May 27, 1922.      Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Park officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Wilkes Otto Martin, 75, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Kerrville.
He was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Hondo.    Rosary was recited Tuesday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m., and Funeral Mass celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 12, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was in Yancey Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Pehl officiated.

Billy J. Musick Sr., age 59, passed away Feb. 12, 2003.    Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, San Antonio. Interment was in Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Lorene McDaniel Coker Ness  passed away on Feb. 4, 2003, in Hondo at the age of 93.      She was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Comanche and moved to Uvalde after her marriage. She had resided in Hondo since 1995.      Graveside service was held in Uvalde on Thursday, Feb. 6,  with Rev. John O. McKay officiating.

Wayne Blair Noddin, age 68, of San Antonio passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born May 29, 1934, in Hingham, MA.    Funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Rosary was held Thursday, Feb. 27, at 11:45 a.m. also at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment followed the Rosary at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

David G. Odam Jr., of Devine passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at the age of 82, in San Antonio. He was born in Spur, June 19, 1920.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Hubbel officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Bea Ellen Bean O'Neill, age 81, of Rio Medina passed away Feb. 24, 2003, in College Station. She was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Waterloo, IA.    Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville. Interment followed the Mass at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Juan Jose Rodriguez passed from this life Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003.      Juan's life was celebrated in prayer at 7 pm. Church service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Templo De Dios Pentecostes with Pastor Johnny Hernandez officiating. He was laid to rest in the Hondo Cemetery.

Ethel Regina Rothe died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at a nursing home in Castroville. She was 90 years old.
Rosary and funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis, with the Rev. Wallis Stiles officiating.  Interment is in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Boyce Dale Schwope of San Antonio, formerly of Boerne and Hondo, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 5, 2003, at the age of 55. He fought a long, hard battle with cancer.    Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Boerne, officiated by Rev. James Galloway- Edgar of Oxford United Methodist Church, San Antonio. Interment was in Boerne Cemetery.

Rudy Valenciano, age 35, of Castroville passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born April 17, 1967, in Greeley, CO.   Visitation was Monday, Feb. 24, and Rosary was  at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Constance Ione "Connie" Westbrook, age 76, of Devine passed away on Feb. 23, 2003. She was born in San Antonio on Sept. 17, 1926.      Funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Lytle United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Martin officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Ethel Mae Angermiller, born Dec. 16, 1908, in Gonzales Co., near Nixon, passed away Thursday, Mar. 27, 2003, in Fredericksburg at the age of 94. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Mar. 31, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with interment at San Fernando No. 2 Cemetery.

Greg L. Avants, age 39, of Devine passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003. He was born in Memphis, TN, May 27, 1963.  Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Mar. 10, at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor J.D. Sanders officiating.

Walter V. Bower, age 91, of Kerrville went to be with the Lord on Monday, Mar. 17, 2003. He was born April 30, 1911, in Springfield, IL.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 20, at Kerrville Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Davis officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Hondo.

Jesus Bustamante, age 59, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Lytle, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2003. He was born in Lytle on Feb. 19, 1944.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 26, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment was in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Pilar Cantu Jr., age 82, of Hondo passed away March 8, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born on Oct. 26, 1920, in Hondo.      Rosary was led by Epifania Ybarra at 7 p.m. Monday, Mar. 10, at the Guinn- Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 12 noon, Tuesday, Mar. 11, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Rev. Jeff Pehl officiated. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

James E. Chester, age 74, of Castroville passed away Monday, Mar. 24, 2003, at Lackland AFB. He was born Mar. 29, 1928, in Grafton, ND.     Visitation was Wednesday at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral service will be Thursday, Mar. 27, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.

Anne Elizabeth Davis,  passed away Friday, March 7, 2003, in the same city block in which she was born 95 years ago.    Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 9, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel and Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Monday, Mar. 10, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of which she had been a member all her life. Interment was in the family plot at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Maria M. Delgado, age 59, of Bigfoot passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Pearsall. She was born on Nov. 4, 1943, in Devine.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with Father Jorge officiating. Interment followed in Longview Cemetery.

Oscar Villa Flores, born Nov. 29, 1930, passed from this life Mar. 1, 2003.   Visitation was from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 4 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Chapel service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels with interment following at the Hondo City Cemetery.

Glenn Lee Folsom, age 47, of Atascosa passed away Sunday, Mar. 9, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born June 2, 1955, in Charlestown, MA.     Visitation was Tuesday at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Graveside service was at 10 am, Wednesday, March 12, in the Blackhill Cemetery, located at the Luckey Road exit off of IH 35 South.

Julia Mary "Judy" Gates, age 75, of Hondo passed away March 2, 2003, in Hondo. She was born in Biry, Oct. 17, 1927.  Memorial service was at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, auspices by Charles Schlentz.

Alicia Aguillen Garcia age 59, of San Antonio, passed away Sunday Mar. 2, 2003 in San Antonio. A Rosary was recited in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, on Wednesday, Mar. 5 and a Mass was recited on Thursday Mar. 6, at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Devine.  Interment  followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Mary Elizabeth Byler Gould, age 82, of Castroville passed away Thursday, Mar. 6, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born April 24, 1920.  Visitation was Friday at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Graveside service was held Saturday, Mar. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Byler Cemetery in Muldoon and a memorial service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Medina Valley United Methodist Church.

Hilda A. Tondre Haby, age 90, of Castroville passed away Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born Dec. 7, 1912, in Medina County.     Visitation was Thursday. Two decades of the Rosary and the Funeral Mass were celebrated Friday, Mar. 21, 9:30 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Clara Kelley, 89, of Devine passed away Monday, Mar. 17, 2003, at her residence. She was born May 1, 1913, in Biossevaine, Manitoba, Canada.    Visitation was Wednesday. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Mar. 20, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Devine, with interment at
Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert Lloyd "Bobby" Kelley, 57, of Hondo passed away March 15, 2003, in Houston after suffering a heart attack. He was born in San Antonio Feb. 4, 1946,      Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 29, at the Church of Christ in Hondo with Frank Perkins Jr.  officiating and George Randall participating. Special music was by Keith Lutz and Amy Dailey. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Carrol Durham McCauley, formerly of Sabinal, died March 11, 2003, in Boise, ID, at the age of 60. She was born on March 1, 1943, in Sabinal.   Graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 15, in the Sabinal Cemetery with Rev. Robert Richarz officiating.

Thomas "Tip" Preston Miller, age 76, of Atascosa passed away Saturday, Mar. 1, 2003, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was held Friday, Mar. 7 at 11a.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Interment followed in Bexar Cemetery Somerset, with Bro. Sedric Wesson of Somerset Baptist Church, officiating.     Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, March 6, from 2 until 9 p.m.

Phyllis Ann Newsom of San Angelo passed away Friday, March 7, 2003. She was born in Dunlay on Oct. 7, 1931.  Service was at 10 a.m. Mar. 10, at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart, San Angelo. Graveside service was at 4 p.m. in St. Louis Cemetery in Castroville.

Delia Nino, age 45, of San Antonio passed from this life to everlasting life with our Lord Jesus Christ on Mar. 22, 2003.  Memorial service was held Tuesday, Mar. 25, 12 noon, at Grace Community Church, Castroville.

James W. Oliver, age 81, of Lytle passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Lytle. He was born in San Angelo, Aug. 15, 1921.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 15, at Somerset Baptist Church with Bro. Earl Willis and Sedric Wesson officiating. Interment was in Bexar Cemetery, Somerset.

Alicia Pasilla, born Oct. 6, 1927, passed from this life March 21, 2003.    The family received visitors Saturday, Mar. 29. at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels. A chapel service was held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Michael Lopez officiating.

Harry Henry Rabe, former Medina County peace officer in the Devine-Natalia area, passed away late Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in La Feria.     He was born Sept. 13, 1905, at Berclair, Goliad Co.    Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 5, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with interment in Hondo Cemetery.

T.J. Rackley Sr. of Natalia passed away Friday, March 7, 2003, at the age of 79. He was born in Natalia on Oct. 8, 1923.     Memorial service was at 3 p.m. at Devine VFW Post 3966.

Richard A. Rangel, born in LaCoste on July 17, 1934, passed away in San Antonio on March 8, 2003, at the age of 68.   Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. and Mass was celebrated at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Interment followed in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Eulogia M. Torres, age 88, of Hondo passed away Saturday, Mar. 21, 2003, in San Antonio. Arthur "Cap'n" Funk Vance, age 54, died peacefully in his sleep on March 24, 2003, at his home in Beaumont. He was born on Dec. 2, 1948, in Hondo.   Rosary was recited Wednesday evening at Broussard's Funeral Home in Beaumont under the direction of Knights of Columbus Council 951.   A rosary and funeral service was held Friday, Mar. 28, 2 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo with Rev. Gerhardt Henry Weynand, 82, of Yancey entered rest Saturday, Mar. 29, 2003, in San Antonio.     He was born near D'Hanis  Feb. 16, 1921.      Funeral service was held Monday, Mar. 31, 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. Interment was in Yancey Community Cemetery.

Alice Frances Cochran Wiemers was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Moore.    After a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease, she went to be with her Lord Friday, March 21, 2003.     Visitation was Sunday at First United Methodist Church fellowship hall.  Funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church Monday, Mar. 24, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Beverly Slusher and Rev. Bert Clayton officiating.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Isaiah Arias of Hondo passed away April 23, 2003, at the age of six months and 13 days. He was born Oct. 10, 2002, in San Antonio.      He is survived by his parents, Rene Antonio and Christine (Martinez) Arias; sister, Catherine Rene Arias; brother, Rene Antonio Arias Jr., all of Hondo.   Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Eliezer Anthony Bernal, age 39, of Hondo, passed away April 17, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.   He was born June 13, 1963, in Hondo.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Apr. 21, led by Epifania Ybarra.   Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Roy Calvin Durbon, age 84, a 30-year resident of Rockwall, passed away April 20, 2003.  Born April 24, 1918, in Crystal City and growing up on a farm, he spent his formative years in the area of D'Hanis, Hondo, Sabinal, Utopia and San Antonio.  A rosary service was held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Rockwall, with Rev. William Richard officiating.      A service was also be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Apr. 24, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment  at 1:45 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Estella G. Gonzales, 81, passed  away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Hondo. Anna Margaret "Ann" Kirby, age 53, of Mico passed away Apr. 18, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident. Martha Wilhemina (Grahmann) Koch, age 84, of D'Hanis passed away April 28, 2003, in D'Hanis. She was born in Hallettsville, Dec. 8, 1918.     Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 2. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m., con-elebrated by Bishop Charles Grahmann of Dallas, Father Wallis Stiles of D'Hanis and Rev. Jeff Pehl of Hondo at Holy Cross Church, D'Hanis.  Eulogy was given by Henry J. Lutz and singing was by the D'Hanis and Hondo choirs. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Betty Jo Lancaster, age 66, of Luling, passed away Tuesday, Apr. 8, 2003.      Funeral service was held Friday, Apr. 11, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Luling. Interment at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section,  at 3 p.m.

Edward William Lutz, age 84, of D'Hanis passed away April 20, 2003. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery with Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiating.

William Bryan Martin, age 79, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003. He was born in Vera (Knox Co.), Nov. 2, 1923.     A memorial service was held Thursday, Apr. 10, 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Hondo, with Chaplain Ed Gates officiating.

John E. McCall Jr., 75, of Atascosa passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at his residence.  Funeral service was held Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. A Masonic service, under the auspices of Atascosa Lodge #379, A.F. & A.M., was held in the funeral home chapel and interment  in Lytle Masonic Cemetery with full military honors.

Thomas William Meredith, age 74, of Big Pine Key, FL, passed away, April 19,  2003, in that city. He was born Nov. 4, 1927, at McKees Port, PA.    Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. and the  funeral service  at 3 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 24, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, Hondo. Florencio R. Monreal, age 86, of Devine passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003, in San Antonio. Interment followed in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Debbie Cade Mumme, 54, of Lubbock died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Lubbock after a brief illness. She was born July 22, 1948, in Lubbock.   The family received friends at the funeral home Thursday evening. Retired Air Force Master Sergeant David H. Weaver passed away in Ft. Worth on April 16, 2003, at the age of 90.   A private committal service was conducted at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery with full honors.

Hulda Nellie Schneider Wiemers, age 102, of Hondo passed away April 21, 2003. Roberto N. Campos, 59 of Taylor, formerly of Hondo, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Temple VA Hospital, after a year-long battle with cancer.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Providence Funeral Home.  Celebration of Life Mass was at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taylor with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating.  Burial was at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Taylor.

Naomi "Sugar" Carter, age 83, of Natalia passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born in Devine, Feb. 13, 1920.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Greene officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery Devine.

Jose C. Contreras Sr., age 96, passed away May 19, 2003, at Medina Community Care Center in Hondo. Jose Roberto "Bobby Joe" Cortez, age 50, passed away May 1, 2003, in D'Hanis. He was born January 21, 1953, in Hondo.    Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 5, and the Funeral Mass followed the rosary, both at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment followed at the San Francisco Cemetery.

Joseph Aelred "Allie" Tondre, born January 10, 1922, in Castroville died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the age of 81.      Visitation was Saturday, May 3, 3 to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Alton J. "Brutz" Tschirhart, age 77, of Castroville passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003, in San Antonio. Belen Hernandez Arnold was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Hondo. She passed away June 1, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 90.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Henry "Hank" F. Bell, age 69, of San Antonio passed away June 14, 2003. He was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Allen.  Funeral service was Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at the Castroville First Baptist Church. Interment with full military honors was at 1:45 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Ted Allan Bridges, age 59, passed away June 7, 2003, at Harvest Care Nursing Home, Castroville. He was born in Rhode Island on Oct. 24, 1943. Grave- side service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Sabinal Cemetery with Mr. James Mortensen officiating.

Brigadier General James B. Burwell, USAF (Ret) made his last flight on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at 100 years of age at AFV II Health Care Center.  The General was born on July 5, 1902, in Tarboro, NC.     Memorial service was held at Air Force Village II High Flight Chapel, San Antonio, Tuesday, July 1, at 9:30 a.m. Graveside service was held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Myron Anna Evans, age 80, of Devine passed away Monday, June 2, 2003, in Jourdanton. Verlean Ruth Mumme Flory passed away June 1, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 74 years. Delores Sue McAnelly, age 68, of Castroville passed away after a brief battle with cancer Friday, June 13, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Wilson County, OK.  The funeral service was held Monday at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi. Interment was in Yancey Community Cemetery.

Effie Naomi Steinle Mechler, age 88, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, after a brief illness. Naomi was born June 30, 1914, in Dunlay.  Mass of Resurrection was concelebrated by Msgr. Roy Rihn and Rev. Jim Conway at 7 p.m. Sunday.  Rosary was led by Msgr. Roy Rihn and Rev. Jim Conway, Monday at 10 a.m. Both services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, alongside her beloved Curley.  
 
Dolphis Leon Milligan, age 69, passed away on June 3, 2003. He was born November 30, 1933, in Grange, Sharpe County, AR.  Funeral service was held Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Interment  later in Milligan Campground Cemetery, Cove City, AR.

Mary Loretta Koch Nehr was born June 1, 1909, in D'Hanis. Pascual R. "Jimmie" Saldana, age 69, of Devine passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003. He was born in Kyle on Jan. 13, 1934.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivarez. Interment followed in Moore Catholic Cemetery.

Vernon Schuchardt, longtime resident of San Antonio, entered into eternal rest on June 8, 2003, at the age of 80 years. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Bergheim.   Visitation was held on Thursday, June 12, 5 to 9 p.m. and funeral service was Friday at 11 a.m., both at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. Concluding service was held at the Smith Cemetery in Bergheim where he will be laid to rest.

Tobey C. Tomblin, age 89, of Devine passed away in Jourdanton. He was born in Atascosa County, Dec. 6, 1913.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Young officiating. Interment at Sand Branch Cemetery.

Jeannette Bryan Trembley passed away on June 22, 2003. She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Edinburg and was a resident of Castroville at the time of her death.  A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 25, 2 p.m., at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.

Mike "Bubba" Vincent, age 56, of San Antonio entered into eternal rest June 15, 2003.  Arrangements were by Hillcrest Funeral Home, San Antonio.

Lena B. Purvis Wilson, age 95, passed away June 11, 2003, at Harvest Communities, Hondo. She was born Dec. 22, 1907, in Comanche County.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Hondo. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Waco on Monday, June 16.

Fecundo Alvarado of Blue Island, IL, passed away July 2, 2003, in Harvey, IL, at the age of 60 years. He was born Sept. 23, 1942, in Hondo. He was known in Blue Lake as "Frank" and in Hondo as "Cunnie". Visitation and a wake service were held at Hickey Memorial Chapels on Monday, and visitation and rosary service were held at Guinn-Horger Chapel
Wednesday.  Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Sybil Juanita Ray Anthony of Lytle passed away at the age of 91 on July 19, 2003. She was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Temple.   A memorial service was held on Monday, July 28, at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Devine. Interment was Wednesday, July 23, at the Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo.

Vera G. Bendele entered into rest on July 24, 2003, at the age of 82.     A Rosary was recited Sunday July 27, at Hondo Funeral Home. Mass was held Monday July 28, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

Stephanie Jay Bennett, age 17, was tragically killed in a car accident  on Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Stephanie was born Nov. 1, 1985.    She is survived by her father and step-mother, Jay and Carla Bennett of Sabinal; mother, Alma Rosa Musquiz and husband, Richard, of Uvalde.  A graveside service was held Friday, July 11, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde. Service was conducted by Rev. Monty Benson.

Allan August Biegert Jr., born  Aug. 10, 1928, on what would become Randolph Air Force Base, passed away in Schertz on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, surrounded by his family.    Funeral service was held Saturday, July 12, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Cibolo with Senior Pastor Brett Becker and Associate Pastor Willie Stratemann officiating.  Interment followed at Comal Cemetery in New Braunfels.   

Irene Lena Blackburn passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the age of 72. She was born in LaCoste on Oct. 28, 1930. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednes- day, July 9, at Dellcrest Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 3.

Clyde Cox, 87, of Pearsall  passed away Wednes- day, July 9, 2003, in Jourdanton.  Graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 11,  at the Pearsall City Cemetery.

Christina "Tina" Cuellar passed away July 12, 2003, in Hondo at the age of 17 years, 11 months, and three days. She was born Aug. 9, 1985.  Visitation was Sunday at the Guinn-Horger Chapel with a Prayer Service led by Gegi Villa. Robert  "Bob" Alton Faseler, age 89, entered eternal rest on July 1, 2003, at his home near Yancey. He was born Dec. 15, 1913. Maria Moncada Guerra passed away July 16, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 58, after having under- gone heart surgery. Clifford Edward Schautteet, age 42, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003.  He was born on Feb. 7, 1961 in San Antonio.   The funeral was held on Tuesday, July 29 at St. Andrews Catholic  Church, Lytle. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Halie and Katie were welcomed into the loving and welcoming arms of the Lord on July 29, 2003. Their parents, Becky and Willie Scott, mourn their short lives, but are thankful for the time they were given with them.    A private graveside service was held on Aug. 1, 2003.

Julius "Doc" Stein, age 67, of Castroville passed away July 31, 2003, in San Antonio.   Julius was born May 10, 1936, in Hondo.  Funeral Mass was celebrated  at 7:30 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Rosary was held at 10 a.m.   Saturday, Aug. 2, also at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Mike Horan as the celebrant for both services. Interment was at St. Louis Cemetery in Castroville.

Catherine E. (Doehne) Tally, age 87, of Hondo died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Knopp Nursing Home No. 1 in Fredericksburg. She was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Galveston.    Graveside service and interment were held Monday, July 28, at 11 a.m., in the Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery at Cherry Spring with the Rev. David A. Jacqueline Janet Wilson passed away July 27, 2003, in San Antonio, at the age of 73. She was born August 14, 1929, in Fredericksburg.   The funeral service was held   at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment was in Yancey Cemetery.

Ruby M. Zoller, age 91, of Pearsall passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in Pearsall. She was born in Clifton, Jan. 21, 1912.    Graveside service was at Beeville Memorial Park with Pastor Brian Blackburn officiating.

Mable Gladys Allen of Hondo, passed away August 21, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 77. She was born April 9, 1926, in San Angelo.    Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 23, 11 a.m., at the Church of Christ in Hondo. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

John Kirk Bownds, age 47, of San Antonio passed away on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday  and Mass was on Monday at 10 a.m.at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment followed in Jones Cemetery in Utopia.
 
Luisa R. Cadena, age 79, of La Coste passed away Aug. 21, 2003, in San Antonio.    Visitation was Friday at Our Lady of Grace Church in La Coste with Rosary led by Rev. John Mannion at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Mannion on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church in La Coste. Interment was at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in La Coste.

Cipriano D. Dominguez Sr., age 87, went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2003. He was born on July 11, 1916, in Redford.   The family received friends and relatives on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine and a Prayer Service and Rosary was held. Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Ned Ruth Durham, age 99, formerly of Sabinal, passed away Aug. 18, 2003, at Regent Care Blanco in San Antonio. She was born Nov. 1, 1903.  Hubert Felts presided over a  graveside service held  Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Sabinal Cemetery.

Pauline Kunz Gilleland of Atascosa, born Nov. 25, 1903, went to be with our Lord Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at the age of 99 years.  Mass was celebrated Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Lytle, with Rev. Romeo Olivares officiating.  Interment was at Black Hill Cemetery.
 
Lillie Mae "Jolie" Schuehle Haby, age 96, of Mico passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003, at her home. Jolie was born April 5, 1907, at Haby's Prairie in Medina County.    Funeral service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville. Interment was at the Quihi Cemetery.

Albert Alexander Haegelin of Hondo passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at the age 90. He was born Sept. 4, 1912.   The funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery Oak Section.

Morgan Bennett Johnson, age 76,  of Sabinal passed away Aug. 18, 2003, in South West Texas Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.     A graveside service was held Thursday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Monte Benson in Sabinal Cemetery.

E. Lloyd Kelley, DVM, of Hondo passed away Aug. 18, 2003, at the age of 91.  He was born in Utopia Sept. 22, 1911.   Visitation was held at the Guinn- Horger Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 20.      The funeral service was at the Church of Christ in Hondo at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Franklin Harvey Krause, age 90, of San Antonio, passed away Aug. 7, 2003.      Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Rodolfo G. Moreno, age 79, entered into rest Aug. 3, 2003.  Rosary was recited Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Hondo Funeral Home. Mass was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

Andrew David Patterson, born on May 28, 1917, passed away on Monday,  Aug. 4, 2003, at the age of 86.    Memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Entombment took place at a later date at St. John's Mausoleum.

Anthony Petri Jr., 88, of Devine passed away on Friday, August 22, 2003.  He was born on October 7, 1914, in Herminie No. 2, Pennsylvania.      Service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Devine.

Angelica Faith Pollock was delivered to Jesus on Tuesday,  Aug. 26, 2003.      Graveside service was held Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Refugio Rios was born October 4, 1929, in Nueva Rosita, Mexico. He passed away Aug. 6, 2003, in Hondo, at the age of 73.    The Rosary was at 7:00 pm Friday Aug. 9 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass was at 11:00 am Saturday Aug. 9, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section Section.

Robert D. Scott, age 89, of Atascosa passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Junction. He was born in Atascosa on Aug. 28, 1913.    Funeral service was at 11 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor J. C. Ballard officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Somerset.

Joey Elam Smith, born June 14, 1908, passed away in Devine, on Sunday, August 10, 2003.  Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m.Wednesday, August 13 in the First Baptist Church of Devine. Interment followed at Brummett Cemetery, Bigfoot.

Billy W. Sullivan, age 78, of Natalia passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in San  Antonio. He was born in Big Springs, Feb. 13, 1925.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. T. A. Littlefield officiating. Interment followed in San Jose Burial Park, San Antonio.

Florence Lamon Tschirhart of Castroville, age 92, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003. She was born in Castroville April 7, 1911.     Visitation was held Tuesday at Tondre Guinn Funeral Home, and Funeral Mass was celebrated at 7 p.m.   Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church, concelebrated by
Rev. Jim Conway and Rev. Mike Horan. Interment at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery followed the Rosary.
 
Franklin Theodore Wiemers passed away August 18, 2003, at Schlesinger's Geriatric Center in Beaumont. He had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for several years.   Born May 30, 1927, in Hondo.   Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Guinn- Horger Chapel. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at First United Methodist Church with burial following at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Jessica Martinez Aguinaga, age 7, of Lytle passed away in San Antonio on Aug. 29, 2003. She was born in San Antonio, April 13, 1996.  Survivors include her parents, Conrado Jr. and Gloria Aguinaga; brother, Conrado Aguinaga III; sisters, Margaret, Valerie and Rebecca Aguinaga, all of Lytle. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at First Baptist Church, Lytle, with Pastor Salvador Molina officiating.

Romaldo M. Aguirre, age 66, passed away Sept. 2, 2003, at his home in Castroville. He was born in Castroville, Feb. 18, 1937.    Visitation was from 12 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4,  with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Tondre Guinn Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church by Rev. Jim Conway. Interment  followed the Mass at St. Louis Catholic Cemetary.

Brian Martin Alfaro of Natalia passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the age of 2 years, 10 months in San Antonio. Brian was born Oct. 15, 2000, in Hondo, the son of Jose Martin Sanchez and Judith E. Alfaro. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Luis Felipe Rodriguez and Jose Rodolfo Alfaro; sisters, Mayra Judith Rodriguez and Melanie Jimena Alfaro. A prayer service was held Friday, Sept. 5, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Graveside service was Saturday, Sept. 6, 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Devine. 

Carrie Marie Allen, age 70, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born in Lampasses, Jan. 18, 1933.   Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Evergreen Cemetery lead by John Bishop.

Francisco Longoria Alvarez, age 70, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003,  at his home in Hondo. He was born  on Dec. 3, 1932, in Utopia.      Funeral service was held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. Mass was held at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo.

Isiah Omar Balderrama, age 6, of San Antonio passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003. He was born in Bellevue, NE, May 10, 1997.      Survivors are his parents, Adrian and Jennifer Balderrama of San Antonio.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment was in San Manuel Cemetery, Macdona.

James Nelson Berleth was born Oct. 10, 1937, in Oklahoma City, OK.  No other information was provided.

Jim Berlithe of Houston, passed away Sept. 15, 2003.    Graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m. at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Master Sgt. Joseph W. Britsch USMC (Ret), 86, fought gallantly throughout the final battle in his war against leukemia, until he succumbed on September 3, 2003, at his home in California.   Joe was laid to rest, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corp, in the Hondo Cemetery on September 6, 2003. 

P. Joe Caballero Sr., age 63, of Floydada, a former resident of Hondo, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003. He was born on June 9, 1940, in
Harligen.    Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Getsemani Assembly of God in Floydada with Rev. Ray Gonzales officiating. Burial was at the Floydada Cemetery.

Roger Dale Carlton, 72, of Lytle passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Vega on April 19, 1931.  Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct 1, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of LaCoste  led by Bro. Cliff Barden.

Oscar C. Cook passed away in Lytle, on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the age of 90.  He was born in Rogers on May 8, 1913.  A graveside service was held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Evergreen Cemetery in Devine. 

Luciano Flores, age 55, of Atascosa died Sept. 1, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born January 28, 1948, in LaCoste.   A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Interment followed in Lytle Latin Cemetery.

Barbara Louise Lippard Gregory was born on Feb. 24, 1927, in Taft and passed away on Sept. 19, 2003, after a struggle with cancer at the age of 76.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Church of Christ in Three Rivers. Interment followed after the service at the Three Rivers
Cemetery.

Ida Marie Steubing Haby, age 61, of Rio Medina passed away Sept. 12, 2003, in San Antonio.  She was born Dec. 15, 1941,  in San Antonio.  Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 14, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home and Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was held Monday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church.  Entombment was at St. Louis Garden Mausoleum in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Blanca G. Henandez of Devine entered into rest on Sept. 27, 2003, in Hondo, at the age of 63.     Visitation began at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Hondo Funeral Home.  Prayer service was held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, both services were at Betania Mission Baptist Church Devine. Burial followed at Black Creek Cemetery, Devine.

Guadalupe Hernandez, age 83, of Hondo passed away Sept. 27, 2003. He was born on Aug. 12, 1920, in New Braunfels.   Rosary was recited Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass was Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m., both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Libby M. Jasik, age 89, of Devine passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in Boerne. She was born in Colorado County on January 6, 1914.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with Msgr Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre. 

William "Bill"  I. Johnston Jr., age 74, of Castroville passed away Sept. 10, 2003, in Hondo. He was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Houston.   The family held a private memorial service.

Genevieve Carmen Juarez, age 41, of Kerrville and formerly of Devine, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born in San
Antonio, Jan. 19, 1962.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18,  at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Valeska Hansmann Kinsey, age 86, of Castroville passed away Sept. 3, 2003, in Castroville. She was born May 25, 1917, in San Antonio.  Visitation as held Friday, Sept. 5, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A graveside service was held Saturday at 10 a.m. at San Fernando Cemetery #3. 

Johnie Kolafa, age 77, of San Antonio passed away Sept. 16, 2003, in Castroville. He was born June 9, 1926, in East Bernard.     Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 18,  5 to 8 p.m., with the funeral service at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Cremation followed.

Charles Wayman McAnelly, age 76, passed away Sept. 9, 2003, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on Jan. 11, 1927, in Yancey. Visitation was at the Guinn-Horger Chapel Friday, Sept. 11. Funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 13, 2 p.m., at the Yancey Methodist Church with interment at the Yancey Cemetery.

Alfredo Medellin, age 89, of Devine passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Bigfoot on Sept. 7, 1913.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. 

Antonio Moncada, age 66, passed away Sept. 24, 2003. He was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in Yancey.  Rosary was held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass, both at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis.   Burial was at the Yancey Cemetery.

Marvin Melton Muennink of Hondo passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the age of 94.   Marvin was born June 23, 1909, in rural Hondo.   Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Burial followed in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. 

James Jay Nichols, age 85, of D'Hanis passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, in Hondo. He and his wife had recently moved from Casper, WY, to D'Hanis. Jay was born April 30, 1918, in Shamrock, OK.   A Memorial Service was held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sabinal. 

With great sadness we announce that our husband and father, Oswaldo V. Nira, passed away on September 11, 2003, at the age of 72.    Oswaldo Nira was born and raised in Hondo,      On Sept.16, 2003, Deacon Oswaldo Nira's Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John Vianney Catholic Parish in Round Rock, by Bishop Gregory Aymond, Father Samuel Hose and Father Rick Aguilar as well as the Diaconate community of the Diocese of Austin, seven of whom served as pall bearers, Deacon Director Klement and Deacons Duecker, Ham, Hithe, Gonzales, Prewitt and Smetana.      Interment, with the Highest military honors, was held Oct. 1, 2003, at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.

Tracy Ann Patteson, 32, of Moore, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003, at her residence.    Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 1, at 4  p.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Monico S. Perez, USN (retired), age 79, passed away on Monday, Aug. 11, 2003. He was born May 4, 1924, in Hondo.  Mr. Perez was buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Diamantina Lopez Reyes, age 73, of D'Hanis passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, in San Antonio. Diama was born June 7, 1930, in Hondo.  Rosary was recited Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m., both at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Interment was in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis. 

Blake D. Rundell, age 26, of Clovis, NM, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, in Farwell. He was born Nov. 4, 1976, in Hereford.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the First Baptist Church of Bovina with Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Interment was in the Bovina Cemetery.

Raymond Leo Salzman, age 93, a lifelong resident of La Coste, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in San Antonio. Raymond was born Aug. 2, 1910, in La Coste.   Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 1, and the Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. at the Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home.      Funeral Mass was Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace  Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery followed the mass.

George Robert Scheuerlein of the Alamo Area SKP Coop in D'Hanis passed away Sept. 21, 2003. He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Rochester.      A private service was held.

Wyatt Hope Stephens, age 77, of San Antonio passed away Sept. 23, 2003, in Castroville. He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Kingsville.  Graveside service, led by Rev. Jane Florence, was held Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Castroville Community Cemetery in Castroville.     The U.S. Army provided military honors.

Raul J. Villarreal Sr., age 55, passed away Sept. 19, 2003. He was born Jun. 10, 1948, in D'Hanis.  Rosary was recited Sunday, Sept. 21, and Funeral Mass was held Monday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Claud Laxton Winters of Bigfoot passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in Jourdanton at the age of 87. He was born in Bigfoot on Jan. 5, 1916.  Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Longview Cemetery with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating. 

John Emory "Jay" Wright went to ride with God and James on Sept. 6, 2003, at his ranch in Kyote. He was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Refugio and moved to Kyote when he was eight years old.  Visitation was at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Jourdanton with a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service was at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10. Interment was at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Devine. 

Pedro H. Ybarra, age 71, of Hondo passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003. Pedro was born June 28, 1932, in Hondo.  Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 to 8 p.m., and Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass was held Friday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo.

Mary (Mollie) Clementine Clark, age 87, of Eureka, CA, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003.   Mary was born on Mar. 21, 1916, in a small cabin on the Cherry Creek Ranch in Leakey.      Funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Ferns in Eureka, CA. Private Interment will be held at Ocean View Cemetery, Columbarium, CA.

Robert Hearn, age 93, passed away Sept. 30, 2003, in Castroville.   On Oct. 3, he was buried at Ft. Sam Houston with military honors.

Margaret Mary Gross Mariano of Hondo passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in Hondo at the age of 89.   Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 2, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Rosary was recited Monday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Entombment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.

Auther Carrol McCauley of D'Hanis passed away, Oct. 23, 2003, in D'Hanis. He was born in Sabinal on Feb. 17, 1914.  Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Sabinal Cemetery with Rev. Monte Benson officiating.

Carl Wayne Mickey, 62, of Lytle, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2003, at his residence. Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 16 from 2 - 9:00 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine. The family received friends Thursday evening from 6- 8pm.      Funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, Devine, with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating. Interment followed at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

James Alfred Moore, age 67, of Lytle passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003.  He was born in Athens, OH, on May 5, 1936.   Funeral service was at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel led by Allen Moore.

Nelda Azubah Naegelin (nee Yarbrough), 75, of Lytle passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003.      Mrs. Naegelin was born Jan. 12, 1928, in San Antonio.      Funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m., at Lytle Baptist Church. Interment at the Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Blas G. Palacios of Hondo entered rest on Oct. 7, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 65.   Visitation began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Hondo Funeral Home and Rosary was held at 7 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church.      Funeral procession departed  at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, for a 10 a.m. Mass at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed in Guadalupe Section of the Hondo Cemetery.

Manuel Aurelio Perez, entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003.   Visitation was on Thursday, Oct. 9. Chapel service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, with both services being at Hondo Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Oakwood Section of Hondo Cemetery.

Ray Phaneuf passed away in Garden Grove, CA, on Oct. 3, 2003, after a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1931, in Ludlaw, Mass.

Clarence Don Rager, age 83, of San Antonio passed away Oct. 25, 2003, at home. Don was born July 30, 1920, in Dunbar, PA.      Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Caholic Church with interment following at St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Hulda Lorine Reitzer, age 94, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Hondo. She was born Oct. 1, 1909, in Quihi.    Visitationwas from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12,  and the funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, both at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Quihi Cemetery  followed the service.

Evelia Reyna, age 84, of San Antonio passed away, Oct. 17, 2003.   Rosary was at 7  p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20. with both services being at Castillo Mission Funeral Home.  Interment followed in San Fernando #2 Catholic Cemetery, San Antonio.

Winifred Mary Sauter, age 90, of Devine passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born in Taylor on Nov. 29, 1912.   Funeral service was at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Mathias Episcopal Church with Rev. Ben Wright officiating. Agnes Marie Capak Horecka Schoellman left our world to be with her Lord on Oct. 4, 2003, at the age of 94 years. She was born on Jan. 17, 1909, at Breslau, Texas.    Rosary was recited Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at Doep-penschmidt Funeral Home. Funeral mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. Interment was at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Myrtle Faye Weldon of Lytle passed away Oct. 21, 2003, at the age of 103. She was born in Llano, Mar. 18, 1900.    Graveside service was at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Mission Burial Park North, San Antonio, with Rev. John R. Fisher officiating.

Joseph Wesley Belcher, age 94, of Castroville, formerly of Port Aransas, passed away at home Nov. 19, 2003. Joe was born Nov. 10, 1909, in Victoria. Funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Castroville. Graveside service followed at 3 p.m. at the Aransas Memorial Park Cemetery near Rockport.

Ignacia Treviño Briseño of Hondo, passed away Nov. 1, 2003, in Hondo at the age of 80.  Rosary was recited Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Burial was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Richard L. "Dick" Cantwell passed away in Watauga, November 9, 2003.   Funeral service Nov. 12 at Bluebonnet Hills Chapel and was officiated by his lifelong friend Rev. Cabel Roberts. Dick's grandson, Robert Bryan Ioppolo gave the eulogy.

Alyssa Marianna Chavez, age 2 months and 21 days, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003. She was born Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003.      She is survived by her parents, Phillip and Deborah S. Samudio-Chavez of Devine.      Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.D. Sanders officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Coleman, age 77, of Sabinal died Nov. 23, 2003, at her residence. She was born June 4, 1926, in Winchell.      Graveside service was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Carrizo Springs with Rev. Debby Lake officiating.

Felipe Cortez of Hondo passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the age of 96. He was born in D'Hanis  Sept. 13, 1907.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. Funeral Mass  was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1. Both services were at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Maria I. Cortez of San Antonio passed away Nov. 7, 2003, at the age of 69. She was born in D'Hanis on May 4, 1934.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, and the Funeral Mass was held at 10 am Tuesday, Nov. 11, with both services at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Interment was in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Zona Jean Linsley DeBarr passed away October 26, 2003, at her home in Alamogordo, New Mexico.  She was born November 5, 1937.

Arthur Burl DuBose, age 80, of Devine passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in Devine. He was born in Black Creek on June 6, 1923.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at First Redemption Church with Rev. Richard Byrd officiating. Interment followed in Tomerlin Cemetery.

Rudy G. Esquibel, age 22, of Devine passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.  He was born in San Antonio, Dec. 25, 1980.      Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at  St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating.  Interment in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Madayah S. Gabrysch, age 69, of Devine passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. She was born in Oilton, OK, Nov. 6, 1934.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m.  Tuesday, Nov. 25,  at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Bender officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Frances Lieck Haby, born March 4, 1915, passed to heaven Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the age of 88. Visitation was Saturday morning at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass was offered Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville with Fr. Jim Conway as celebrant. The Vigil Service was Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, with Fr. Pleva officiating and interment following at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.

Nora Bernice (Ball) Lippert Hanchett of Hondo went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 29, 2003, at the age of 82 in San Antonio. She was born on April 13, 1921, in Waureka, OK.   Funeral service was held  Tuesday, Dec. 2, 7 p.m., at the Guinn- Horger Funeral Home. Burial was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, OK.

Patricia Ann Haywood, age 65, of Devine passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born on July 28, 1938, in Pearsall.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with a family clergy officiating. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Jack Harry Kaler of Sabinal passed away Nov. 24, 2003, in Hermann Memorial Hospital, Houston at the age of 80. He was born in Corpus Christi, Dec. 24, 1922.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Central Christian Church in Sabinal. Interment followed in Sabinal Cemetery.

Robert Fernandez Lara Sr. of Uvalde passed away Nov. 24, 2003, in Uvalde Memorial hospital, at the age of 53. He was born in Hondo, July 25, 1950.    Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Uvalde. Interment was in Batesville Cemetery, Batesville, with Deacon Antonio Hinojosa officiating.

Juanita Elizabeth Hinson Mayhew, age 97, of Lytle  passed away Nov. 23, 2003, in San Antonio. She was born Oct. 12, 1906, in Turnersville.     A memorial service was held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Lytle United Methodist Church in Lytle.

Doris Elizabeth Fox Mellen, age 85, of Gonzales formerly of Castroville, passed away Nov. 13, 2003, in San Antonio.      Doris was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Galveston.   Funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Angels at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Joshua Hunter Miles, age 19, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2003.     Born on Feb. 10, 1984, Josh graduated from Hondo High School in 2002.  Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio. Maurice Henry Nester of San Antonio, age 87, passed away Nov. 2, 2003.  He was born Oct. 21, 1916, in D'Hanis.    Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 4. Casey Lee Patterson, age 14, of Devine passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in San Antonio. She fought a long and hard battle with cancer; she never gave up the fight until the very end. She was born in Hondo, Feb. 24, 1989, to Clayton and Cynthia Patterson.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Everett Boyce officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, WOW Section, Hondo.

Estella V. Ramirez, age 60, of Devine passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.  She was born in D'Hanis, Nov. 12, 1942.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Ernestine "Ernie" Ziegenbalg Robinson, age 76, of Meridian MS, passed away in her home Nov. 16, 2003.     Funeral service was held Nov. 19, 2003, at the Webb Funeral Chapel with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Meridian.

Helen Ethel Richter of Hondo passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at the age of 90. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on May 11, 1913.    A memorial service was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Hondo at 2 p.m.

Santiago Rizo of Devine passed away Nov. 26, 2003, at the age of 70 in Hondo. He was born in Lytle on May 22, 1933.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Hurley Funeral Home chapel with Mgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment was in Longview Cemetery.

Paul Savadin, age 61, owner of Paul's Crank Shop, of Devine, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at his residence.    Rosary was recited Sunday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Lytle. Interment  followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Verna P. Schmidt, age 87, of Devine passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 in Castroville.   Funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. in St. John United Church of Christ, Pflugerville.  Interment  followed at St. John Cemetery in Pflugerville.      Family received friends on Tuesday, Nov. 11  from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home, Chapel, Devine.

Troy "Boe" Smallwood of Sabinal passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the age of 70. He was born in Purcell, OK, on August 23, 1933.   Rev. Monty Benson officiated the graveside service, held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at the Sabinal Cemetery.

William David Smith, age 73, of Conroe passed away Nov. 26, 2003. He was born in Johnstown, PA, Dec. 6, 1929.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Metcalf Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Grady Arnold officiating. Interment followed at Garden Park Cemetery.

Bula Josephine Stolle was born April 11, 1906, near the small town of Rosanky in Bastrop County. She died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in the home of her daughter-in-law Nancy McCullough near Moore in Frio County.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Byrd officiating. Interment followed in Moore Memorial Cemetery.

James Anthony "Tony" Baker, age 57, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.      Arrangements were by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville.

Florence (Nonnie) Mechler Meyer Balzen, age 99, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Pleasanton. She was born Feb. 27, 1904, in La Coste.      A Rosary, immediately followed by the Funeral Mass, was held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, St. John Section.

Lillie Ruth Benke of Hondo passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the age of 83. She was born in Whiteflat March 9, 1920.    Visitation was held at the Guinn-Horger Chapel Monday, Dec. 8. Graveside service was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery #2, Helotes, on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Albert William (Bill) Bryant passed away Dec. 26, 2003, in Hondo, at the age of 49. Cornelia Burrell Haby, age 87, of Castroville passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in Castroville. She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Castroville.  Visitation was on Wednesday, Dec. 17, and Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment at the St. Louis Cemetery in Castroville.

Grace Gibson Mitchell, age 92, of Devine passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in Yancey.    In accordance with her wishes, there were no services.

Julia A. Montalvo, age 93, of Houston, formerly of Devine, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Houston. She was born in Tilden, Feb. 17, 1910.  Funeral services were at 12 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 23 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating.   Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Ann Lutz Morgan, 80, of Port Neches died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at her home.    Mary Ann was born and reared north of D'Hanis.   Rosary was recited at Levingston Funeral Home on Sunday.  The funeral was Monday, Dec. 1, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Bennie Patillo officiating. She was buried in Memory Garden Cemetery.

Eva G. Morin of Hondo passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in Las Vegas at the age of 62. She was born in Hondo on July 6, 1941.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, with Fannie Ibarra leading the service. Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Both services were at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

W. Wanda Morrison, age 73, of Castroville passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in San Antonio. Wanda was born Jan. 15, 1930, in San Antonio.    Visitation was at St. Louis Catholic Church Tuesday, Dec. 16, preceding the Funeral Mass  at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment was on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Monthalia Lutheran Cemetery in Monthalia.

Leo W. Poerner, age 50, of Devine passed away Dec. 8, 2003.      Funeral service was Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jimmy Reyes passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Hondo Funeral Home.  Mass was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at St. John's Catholic Church, interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

Gladys Rae Albrecht Richardson, age 75, of Bandera  passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 in Kerrville. Gladys was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Victoria.  A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.

Christine Hazel Brown Rigby, born April 5, 1922, passed away at the Pecan Acres Country Home in Yancey on Dec. 7, 2003.    Funeral service was held at 10  a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Hurley Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Maria Elvia Rodriguez entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.   Visitation began at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, and Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment was in the Hondo Cemetery.

Frank Joseph Savadin, age 94, of Devine, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at home. Frank was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Engl.   A memorial graveside service was held Monday, Jan. 5, 2003, 1 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors and burial of his ashes.

Piedad Sandoval entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003.   Visitation began at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Hondo Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. John's Catholic Church, interment followed in the Hondo Cemetery.

William T. Seifert, Jr., age 75, of Natalia passed away on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his residence . Rosary was recited on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, Devine. A Mass of Christian Burial was said on Monday, Dec.22, 2003, at 12 noon in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Devine.  Interment followed in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Devine. Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguire  officiated the services.

Denver Don Splawn, age 70, of Rocksprings and formerly of Devine, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in Kerrville. He was born in Frederick, OK, Dec. 9, 1933.    Funeral service was at 2 p.m.  Tuesday, Dec. 23, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Johannson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

William Cecil Strickland died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, in Castroville.      He was born May 24, 1934.     Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 14, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. at Harlandale UMC, 6025 South Flores, San Antonio. Interment was  Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Victoria.

Jack T. Ulbrich of Hondo passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in San Antonio at the age of 85. He was born in the rural Hondo area on April 16, 1918.      Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo. Burial was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Hilda Tondre Wernette, age 107, of Castroville passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003. Hilda was born Sept. 21, 1896, in Castroville.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was Monday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Maria Zapata of D'Hanis passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, in Hondo at the age of 69. She was born in D'Hanis on March 26, 1934.    Rosary followed the regular 7 p.m. Wednesday Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Dec. 17. Funeral Mass was recited at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial was in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.
