Clarissa Zinsmeyer Donahue Ashley, age 81, of San Antonio entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Oct. 18, 1920, in Castroville.  Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home led by Deacon Gene Ebner. Mass of Resurrection was at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, celebrated by Fr. Jimmy Drennan at St. Paul's Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment followed, with military honors performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, LaCoste, conducted by  Rev. John Mannion.

Elvira Bendele, age 88, of San Antonio and formerly of Devine passed away Sunday, January 20, 2002.  Rosary was recited at 6:30 P.M.  Tuesday, January 22, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel.  Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with interment following in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Jewel Bennett, age 97, of Devine passed away, January 19, 2002, in San Antonio.  She was born in Rome, GA, December 13, 1904.  Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Dennis officiating.

Johnnie C. Brooker, age of 66, of Von Ormy, went to be with our Lord on January 12, 2002.  he was born on March 1, 1953.  Mr. Brooker attended school at Southwest High School.  Visitation held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South.  Funeral service held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, in the funeral home. Interment followed in Mission Burial Park South.

Stanley L. Burger, age 93, of Uvalde passed away January 14, 2002.  He was born December 3, 1908.   Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 17 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel, Funeral service was held at  2 p.m. Friday, January 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo.  Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, with Rev. David J. Mayer officiating.

Mary Kathryn Church Bush, age 84, of Lytle passed away January 29, 2002, in New Orleans, LA.  A member of a pioneer south Texas ranching family, she was born September 6, 1917, in Oakville.  She was a member  of Colonial Dames of America, Jamestowne Society and U.S. Daughters of 1812.  Graveside service was held Friday, February 1, at 11 a.m. at the Lytle Masonic Cemetery.  

Maurice Peter 'Shotsie' DeCock Sr, age 85, of Castroville passed away Jan. 2, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born May 21, 1916, in San Antonio.    The Mass of Resurrection was concelebrated by Rev. Jim Conway, Msgr. Lawrence Steubben, Msgr. George Steubben, Msgr. Thomas Palmer and Deacon Gene Ebner, Friday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville. Rosary was led by Fr. Jim Conway, at 1:30 Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment followed the rosary in St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.
    
Veronica Jimenez Dominguez, age 87,of Hondo passed away January 16, 2002.  She was born in Hondo, April 19, 1914.  She was a homemaker and a Guadalupana.  Visitation was held from 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday January 20, also at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel.  Funeral mass was at 1 p.m. Monday, January 21, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

James F. Elwell, age 86, formerly of San Antonio and recently of Hondo, passed away at the Audie Murphy VA hospital in San Antonio on January 17, 2002.  Graveside service was held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday January 22 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Natividad Espinosa, age 71, of Lytle passed away Friday, January 11, 2002.  He was born in Lytle on September 8, 1930.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 15, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Adolfo Valdivia officiating.  Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Harry E. Filleman, age 92, of San Antonio passed away January 21, 2002. He was born in 1909 in Hondo.   Funeral service and rosary were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hondo followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.

Vincenta Gallegos, age 88, of D'Hanis, passed away January 19, 2002, in Hondo.  She was born in Uvalde, July 19, 1913.  She was a homemaker and a Guadalupana.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, January 21, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis with Father Wallis Stiles officiating.  Interment followed in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Wylie Franklin Gardner, age 81, of Devine passed away, Monday, January 28, 2002, in San Antonio.  He was born in San Antonio, January 11, 1921.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. 

Juanita Ybarra Gonzales, age 79, of Hondo passed away January 24, 2002.  She was born in Hondo, October 24, 1922.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, January 25, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Julia G. Gonzales, age 84, of Hondo passed away Jan. 4, 2002, in Hondo. She was born in Hondo on Feb. 16, 1917.Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo  Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Rodolfo M. Gonzales, age 87, passed away January 28, 2002.  He was born May 16, 1914.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday February 1 in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel.  Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Winifred Handley, 89, of Dallas, formerly of Sabinal and Uvalde, died January 21, 2002, at Presbyterian Village North Care Center in Dallas.  She was born June 20, in Austin.  She was a national officer of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and a member of the Loyal Alumni of the University of Texas at Austin.   A private memorial held at later date.

Albert Fred Holder  was born April 22, 1918, in San Antonio and passed away on January 8, 2002 near Devine.  Funeral service was a 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Mission Park South, San Antonio.

Betty Faye Howard, age 60, of Devine passed away, January 17, 2002.  She was born in Devine, July 11, 1941.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, January 21, at First Baptist Church, Devine with Dr. Glen Young officiating.  Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Russell W. Jolley, age 91, of Devine passed away Jan. 6, 2002. He was born in San Antonio, Sept. 24, 1910.   Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Pearsall Cemetery with Rev. Whitaker officiating.

Phillip Hernandez Juarez, age 54 of Lytle passed away January 30, 2002, in Lytle.  He was born December 16, 1947, in Natalia.  He was a member of Iglesia Bautista Calvario.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, February 4, at Iglesia Bautista Calvario with Pastor Jesus Ortiz officiating.  Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery. 

Dorothy Hovell Steinbomer Kendall, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2002 in Lockhart.  She was born May 27, 1912, in Bayonne, NJ, and was 12 when her family moved to San Antonio.    Her body was cremated. A memorial service followed in San Antonio in the Spring.

Zola Faye Kendrick, age 84, of Devine, passed away Monday, January 14, 2002, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 18, in the Church of Christ, Hwy 173, Devine. Interment will follow at Moore Memorial Cemetery, Moore.

Reva Jo Littleton, age 59, of Spring passed away January 21, 2002, at her residence.  Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, with Dr. Glen Young officiating.

Ivan C. Nester, age 85, of Dunlay passed away January 14, 2002.  He was born in his childhood home west of D'Hanis on January 25, 1916.   Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 17, at First Baptist Church of Hondo with Brother John McKay officiating.   Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, NE Annex.

James Anthony Oppelt,  age 72, of LaCoste passed away Jan. 4, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Medina County on the family farm.   Memorial rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, led by Fr. John Mannion and Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan 11, officiated by Fr. John Mannion, with both services being at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. Military Honors flag presentation will be provided by the United States Marines following Mass. A private interment service will be held for family members in the Moore Cemetery in Moore.
    
Juan Padron, age 71, of Hondo passed away January 15, 2002.   He was born in Hondo, June 12, 1930.  Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 18, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, January 18, also at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel.  Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo with Father Einer Ochoa officiating.  Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Issac 'Billy' Perales, age 75,  of Castroville,   passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in Castroville.  He was born June 3, 1926, in Mariana, AR.    Visitation was held Thursday, January 31, 2:30-5:30 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway and Deacon Gene Ebner,  Friday,  February 1 and Rosary was recited Saturday, February 2, at 9 a.m. led by Fr. Jim Conway, both at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment followed at St. Louis Cemetery in Castroville.

Jesusa 'Susie' Perez, age 78, of D'Hanis passed away, January 28, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital in San Antonio.  She was born July 19, 1923 in D'Hanis.  She worked in the rectory of Holy Cross Catholic  Church in D'Hanis for 23 years.  She was also known for her delicious homemade tamales.   Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis.  Mass of the Resurrection was at  10 a.m. Thursday, January 31, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis with Father Wallis Stiles officiating.  Interment followed in San Francisco Cemetery in D'Hanis.

Manuela G. Ramirez, age 84, of Hondo passed away on January 01, 2002. She was born March 13, 1917, in Hondo.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002. Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2002. Services were conducted  at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed mass at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Regina M. Richter, age 81, of Yancey passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the McCrea Retirement Home. Regina was born on the Rothe Ranch north of D'Hanis on Sept. 17, 1920.   The Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis with Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiating.  Private burial was set for a later date.
    
David W. 'Dave' Rogers, age 52, died Saturday, January 12, 2002.  He was born September 21, 1949 and was a native and lifetime resident of San Antonio.  Mr. Rogers graduated law school and was a Civil Trial Attorney and also served as the Municipal Judge of Grey Forest for over 25 years.   Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, San Antonio.  Interment followed in Mission Burial Park North.

Laura E. Rohrbach, age 95, of Hondo passed away January 7, 2002 in Kerrville.  She was born in D'Hanis, December 14, 1906.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, January 10 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Funeral mass was at 2 p.m. Friday, January 11, at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Pehl officiating. Entombment was at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum.

William Dale Schutze, age 62, passed away January 28, 2002, of a heart attack.  He was born in Austin, February 17, 1939.   His ashes were interred at the family plot in old Rodgers Hill Cemetery in Austin at 11 a.m. February 15, 2002.   He was a very active member of Save Texas Cemeteries Inc.  A Celebration of Life Service was held at Lodge in the Desert, 306 N. Averon Way, in Tucson, from 2 - 4 p.m. on February 17, which would have been his 63rd birthday.

Frances Nell Siebertt, age 79, of San Antonio died Friday, January 25, 2002. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, San Antonio, with Rev. Modie and Rev. Alan Kethan officiating.  Interment followed in Mission Burial Park North.

Della Ruth Smith, age 83, of San Antonio, formerly of Uvalde, passed away, January 24, 2002, at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio.  She was born February 25, 1918, in Utopia.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 28 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary Chapel with Danny Haby officiating.  Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Robert L. Smith, age 91, of La Pryor died January 18, 2002 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.  Smith, a farmer for most of his life, was born January 16, 1911, in Asherton.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, at First United Methodist Church of La Pryor with Rev. Cathryn Coveney officiating. Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery in Carrizo Springs.

Mary Ann Stavinoha, age 54, of Castroville went to be with the Lord January 26, 2002, after a long battle with cancer.  She was born March 30, 1947 in Castroville.   The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway, Monday, January 28, 2002 at 7 p.m.  Rosary was led by Fr. Jim Conway, Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at 10 a.m. Both services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the Rosary in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Theodore Stecker, age 89, of Castroville passed away January 26, 2002, in Castroville.  He was born February 11, 1912, in Anadarko, OK.    Rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Monday, January 28, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Genevive Starr Stieldorf, age 88, of San Antonio passed away, January 23, 2002.  She was born in Jamesville, WI, April 18, 1913.  Genevive was a real estate broker. Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, led by Eugene Soland.

Amada Maria Chapa Torres, age 62, of Grand Prairie and formerly of Devine, passed Monday, January 7, 2002, in Arlington.  She was born in Devine, October 8, 1939.  She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, January 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. 

Mildred Ester Wells, age 82, of Kerrville passed away January 27, 2002 at Hilltop Village in Kerrville.  She was born December 5, 1919 in Panoka, Alberta Canada.  Mrs. Wells taught school at Northeast ISD in San Antonio, Medina Valley ISD at Castroville, Hondo ISD and retired from Sabinal ISD.  Graveside service was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, at Sabinal Cemetery with Rev. David Crabtree officiating.

Manuela R. Ybarra, age 86, of Hondo passed away, January 29, 2002.    She was born in Sabinal, September 17, 1915.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  .  Funeral Mass held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, also at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Ralph Ahr, age 90, of La Coste passed away February 19, 2002.  Visitation was held on Thursday, February 21, at 2 p.m. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 22, at Zion Lutheran Church with interment following in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.

Elizabeth Anne 'Liz' Perry Albrecht  was born December 14, 1935, in Lampasas.  She went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 16, 2002, at the age of 66, following heart failure.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, with Pastor Reid Schaub officiating.  Interment followed at Forest Oaks Cemetery.

Sam Walton Amberson, age 65, of Hondo passed away February 5, 2002.   He was born in Hondo, September 19, 1936.  Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2002, at First United Methodist Church of Hondo with Rev. Burt Clayton and Rev. Bill Nogues officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. 

Jesse L. Bielefeld Sr. , age 83, of Somerset passed away Saturday, February 16, 2002, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, at the First Baptist Church of Somerset. Interment followed in Bexar Cemetery.

Raymundo Canizales, age 71, of Castroville passed away February 7, 2002, in Castroville.  He was born April 20, 1930 in Palau, Coahuila, Mexico.  Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday, February 8, at 7 p.m. Rosary was led by Fr. Jim, Saturday, February 9, at 9 a.m. at the chapel of Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.  Interment followed the Rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Betty Compton, age 93, of Castroville passed away February 18, 2002.  Visitation was held on Friday February 22, 2002 from 3 to 7 p.m.  Graveside service was held Saturday, February 23, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.

Bonifacio DeLaRosa, age 76, of Devine passed away February 24, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Devine, May 14, 1925.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, with Fr. Romeo Olivares officiating, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment followed in
St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jackie Irene Dubose, age 60, of Devine passed away, Thursday, February 7, 2002 in Kerrville.  She was born in Paulding, MS, January 18, 1942.  Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Monday, February 11, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Cook officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Tabitha Escamilla  joined the angels in heaven Sunday February 3, 2002.  She was six weeks old.  Tabitha was born December 18, 2001 in San Antonio to Frank and Nora (Carrillo) Escamilla.  Mass of the Angels was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday February 5, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Burial followed at Hondo Cemetery. 

Pedro E. Garza Sr., age 74, of D'Hanis passed away at home on Saturday, February 2, 2002.  He was born April 8, 1927, in Hondo.  Prayer service was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Dawson Funeral Chapel.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, at Dawson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Pedro Garza Jr. officiating.  Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Jeanne Brown Irwin, long-time resident of Port Aransas, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away February 6, 2002.  She was born December 28, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA.   A graveside service was at 10:15 a.m., Monday, February 11, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  

Katherine Patricia 'Pat' (Dowd)(Mangold) Johnson, age 61, of Castroville passed away February 3, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on January 4, 1941, on the family farm in Live Oak County.   Rosary was led by Father Jim Conway,  at 7 p.m. Tuesday February 5.  Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10. a.m. Wednesday, February 6, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville. Interment followed in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Mary Marcella Kier, age 79, of Hondo, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2002.  She was born in Dayton, OH, December 10, 1922.  Marcella and husband were charter members of the Alamo Corral SKP Cooperative in Hondo.  Memorial Service was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis, 10 a.m. Monday, February 4, with Father Wallis Stiles officiating.  Interment of ashes followed at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, OH, at a later date. 

Alice Justine Kleppe of Spicewood, formerly of Manitowoc, WI, was born in Hondo on February 16, 1923.   Alice passed away Saturday, February 16, 2002, in D'Hanis.   On Tuesday, February 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. visitation was held at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, Austin.  She was then flown to Manitowoc where a Mass was held at Sacred heart Catholic Church.  Entombement was in Knollwood Memorial Park next to her lat husband, Victor.

Guy H. Land, 84, of Duncanville passed away February 12, 2002. He was born September 30, 1917.  Funeral was held Thursday, February 14, 10 a.m., at David Clayton and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 200 W. Center St., Duncanville.  Interment followed at Little bethel Memorial Park.

Milton Alfred Leinweber, age 88, of Hondo passed away, February 14, 2002, in Hondo.  He was born in Hondo, November 2, 1913.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, February 18, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Mayer officiating.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World. 

John Louis Lessing, age 83, of San Antonio passed away Feb. 26, 2002. He was born June 20, 1918, in Macdona.   Rosary was recited Friday, Mar. 1, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Macdona. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Rudy Corrola Jr., Saturday, at 12:15 p.m., at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Macdona.  Interment was at the church cemetery.

Maria Santos Luna  age 78, of Floydada passed away Feb. 23, 2002, at her residence. She was born on Sept. 15, 1923, in Hondo.  Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Father Phillip deFreitas officiating. Interment followed in Floydada Cemetery.
  
Kenneth Charles Magoon, age 34, passed away February 13, 2002, at his home in Medina County.  He was January 26, 1968, in Warner Robins, GA. Visitation was Monday February 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at Lakehills United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service led by the Rev. Ellen Ely. Interment was at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery  in San Antonio with military honors.

Cleo Faye Homesley Martin, age 92, of Yancey passed away February 2, 2002.  She was born June 16, 1909 on Squirrel Creek in Medina County.  Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Monday, February 4, at Yancey United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Nogues and Rev. Dave Crabtree officiating.  Interment followed in the Yancey cemetery.

Clarence William Olson, age 74, of Natalia passed away Friday, February 1, 2002, at his residence.  Funeral service was held Wednesday, February 6, at 10 a.m. in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Devine. 

Laura Lena Santleben Reicherzer, age 93, of La Coste passed away Feb. 22, 2002, in Castroville. She was born May 12, 1908, in Medina County.   The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Anne Kohmeier on Sunday,
Feb. 24, 2:30 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castroville, followed by interment in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Jo Ann Ross, age 63, of Jourdanton died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Frio Regional Hospital, Pearsall. She was born Sept. 13, 1938.    Graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Longview Cemetery, Bigfoot.

Capt. Jess Baker Sadler, USAF retired, of Castroville passed away February 7, 2002, at his home at the age of 67.  He was born September 23, 1934, in High Point, NC.   Graveside service was held Thursday, February 14, at 1 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Rev. Jane Florence officiating, and with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Lorine Bippert Schott, age 97, of Mico passed away February 19, 2002.   She was born June 18, 1904, in Rio Medina.   Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Rev. Jim Conway Thursday at 7 p.m.  Feb. 21, 2002. Rosary was led by Rev. Jim Conway Friday at 10 a.m.  Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment was in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Allen C. Stein age 82, of Rio Medina passed away February 15, 2002, in San Antonio.  He was born November 10, 1919, in Rio Medina.  Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Jim Conway, Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Rosary was led by Rev. Jim Conway at 10 a.m. Monday.  Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment followed the Rosary in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Janice Helen Syring, age 62, of Driftwood, passed away on February 3, 2002.  She was born in Hondo, April 20, 1939.  Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Dripping Springs.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, at St. Martin de Porres.  Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery, Austin.

Ruby Berniece Terry, age 94, of Keene passed away Feb. 22, 2002, in Hondo.  She was born in Mineral Wells, July 16, 1907.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Keene Community Cemetery Chapel.

Gladys Baker Williams went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2002. She was born on Oct. 16, 1925, in Devine.  Graveside service was at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Colonial Chapel Hill Memorial Park.

Bernadette 'Pat' Wurzbach, age 86, of Mico passed away February 19, 2002.  Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville.  Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 21, at St. Louis Catholic Church with interment in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Elsie Marie 'Suze' Muennink Adams, age 80, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away Mar. 5, 2002. She was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Hondo.      The Vigil Service was officiated by Deacon Bill Enas in All Saints Chapel of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 6 p.m. Mar. 6. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Thomas Bayer at 10 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 7, at the Cathedral of Our Lady's Cathedral of Perpetual Help
of Oklahoma City. Interment followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City.

Diamantina Martinez Burvato, age 94, of Castroville passed away Sunday, Mar. 31, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Eagle Pass.   Rosary was  led by Deacon Archie Henson, Wednesday, Apr. 3,  at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral  Home.  Mass of Resurrection was held Thursday, Apr. 4, 2002, at 11  a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment followed the mass in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. 

Jesus H. Cadena, age 72, of La Coste passed away Mar. 1, 2002, in San Antonio.  He was born Jan. 11, 1930, in La Coste.    Visitation was Sunday, Mar. 3, from 5 until 8:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Rosary was led by the Guadalupana Society
at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Raymond Coor, on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

David DuBose, age 61, of Devine passed away Monday, Mar. 4, 2002, at his residence.    Visitation was held at the Funeral Home Thursday, Mar. 7 from 2 until 9 p.m.  Funeral service held at 10 a.m. Friday, Mar. 8, in the First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment followed  in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ruben Flores Sr., age 58, of McKinney passed away Mar. 28, 2002. He was born May 21, 1943, in Caro, MI.

Joyce Lanell Gilliam, age 72, of Hondo passed away Mar. 10, 2002, in San Antonio. LUISA CASTILLO GONZALES, age 83, of Devine passed away Monday, Mar. 25, 2002, in San Antonio. Margarito "Compita" Gurrusquieta -Soto  entered into eternal rest on Mar. 13, 2002, in Mexico City, Mexico. He was born June 10, 1969.      He was laid to rest on March 15, in Cutzamala, Mexico. A Memorial Mass was recited at St. John's Catholic Church on Saturday, Mar. 23, at
11 a.m. 

Elmer Reese Homeyer, age 87, of Swinney Switch, formerly of LaCoste, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday morning, Mar. 29, 2002. He was born in Burton Oct. 17, 1914.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville, officiated by Rev. Anne Kolmeier. Georgie W. Smith  of Boerne, formerly of Sabinal, age 91, passed away Mar. 11, 2002, in Town & Country Nursing Home in Boerne.   Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 14, at First United Methodist Church in Sabinal, with Rev. Debby Lake officiating. Interment

JOSEFINA PEREZ VASQUEZ, age 84, of Devine passed away Tuesday, Mar. 26, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Mar. 19, 1918, in Laredo.    Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Mar. 29, at  Betania Baptist Church with Pastor Rivera officiating.  Interment followed at Gutierrez Cemetery.

Linda Weitz died Sunday, Mar. 24, 2002, in her home at the age of 59. She was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Buffalo, NY. Funeral service was  at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 27, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Spain officiating. Interment followed in the Lytle Community Cemetery, Lytle.

On Monday, Mar. 25, 2002, Arthur C. Weynand passed away at his home, attended by loved ones and at peace, having lived to celebrate his 87th birthday two days prior.  Funeral service was held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 28, 2002, with interment in Mission Burial Park South.

Jacob H. Benavides, son of a City of Devine police officer, was killed in a car accident Saturday April 6, 2002. He was born May 29, 1980, to Benny and Kandy Benavides.   Funeral service was held Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2002, at the Black Creek Baptist Church. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Jennie Selfridge Byrom, age 93, of Lytle passed away April 5, 2002, at Georgetown Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 2, 1908, in the Arbuckle Mountains of Springer, OK.     Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Apr. 8, in the Lytle United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Lytle Masonic Cemetery.

Robert Henry Clements, age 87, of Hondo passed away, April 25, 2002. He was born Nov. 16, 1914, in Hondo.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Hondo Church of Christ with Frank Perkins, George Randall and Robert Kelley officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Olga Catherine Conrad, age 89, of Devine, passed away on April 12, 2002,  in Hondo. She was born January 2, 1913, in La Coste.   The rosary and Mass of Resurrection were held Monday, April 15, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, with Fr. Jim Conway
officiating. Entombment was in St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.

John E. (J.E.) Fargason Jr., age 86, of Moore passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Medina Community Hospital in Hondo. He was born Dec. 31, 1915,
in Dallas.    Funeral service was held Monday, April 22, at 10 a.m. in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Duane Young officiating.   Interment followed in Moore Memorial Cemetery, Moore.

Bradley Wayne Freeman, age 32, of La Coste  passed away April 29, 2002, in Bexar County.  Bradley was born October 24, 1969, at Lackland AFB.   Bradley was cremated. No services are planned at this time.      

Dustin Matthew Gobert, age 15, was killed in an automobile accident on Tuesday, Apr. 2, 2002. He was born on Apr. 20, 1986, in Baytown.    A graveside service was held on Thursday Apr. 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Cemetery, Utopia. The service was conducted by Rev. Jimmy Linn.

Maria G. Hernandez Gonzales, age 90, of D'Hanis passed away Tuesday, Apr. 2, 2002, in Hondo. She was born July  30, 1911, in D'Hanis.     Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 3, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Funeral Mass was held Thursday, Apr. 4, at 10 a.m. at the church, followed by interment in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis with Fr. W. Stiles officiating each service.

Alvin H. Hardt, age 93, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Hardt was a native of Hondo. His parents were the late Henry Lee Hardt and Katherine Leinweber Hardt. He married a Nashville native, Laurie Phillips, in 1922 and moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked for the
Central Intelligence Agency. He served as head of the printing division there for many years, retiring to Shelbyville in 1970. He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Christopher Mark Heinlein, age 33, of Hondo passed away Sunday, April 7, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 5, 1969, in Woodbury, NJ.     Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Dawson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tony Hoult officiating.

CWO Melvin Travis Lewis, (U.S.A.F. retired) age 81, of Air Force Village II, San Antonio,  passed away Apr. 2, 2002, in San Antonio.  He was born April 26, 1920, in Bernice, LA.   A memorial graveside service was held Friday, April 5, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full military honors by the
U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Rev. Bob Scott  officiated.

Connie Jo Stroud Lyons of Dickinson, formerly of Devine, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2002, in Galveston at the age of 56. She was born in San Antonio, Mar. 30, 1946.  Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Ron Page officiating.

Helen McMillan, age 85, of Lytle passed away Sunday, April 14, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Gonzales, Jan. 10, 1917.   Graveside service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Scott Martin officiating.

Kimber Lynn Moore, age 14, of Utopia was killed in an automobile accident on Tuesday, Apr. 2, 2002. She was born Aug. 12, 1987, in Uvalde.   A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 4, at Jones Cemetery in Utopia. The service was conducted by Bro. Jimmy Lynn.  A private interment will be held at Vanderpool Cemetery, Vanderpool.

Mary Louise Noonan died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the age of 91.    Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass was offered at 9 a.m. Saturday, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville.

Ernesto Reyes, age 85, of Atascosa passed away Saturday, April 13, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Von Ormy, Nov. 7, 1916.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset.

Alice Magdalena Bohl Salzman, age 87, a lifelong resident of La Coste passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in Castroville. Alice was born Oct. 23, 1914, in La Coste.   Rosary was led by Msgr. Thomas Palmer,  Wednesday, Apr. 24,  at 7 p.m.  Mass of Resurrection was offered by Fr. John Mannion, Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Both services were at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste.  Interment  followed in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

Florence Beatriz Shaw, age 98,  past away on April 9, 2002. She born on Nov. 5, 1903, in Castroville.  Visitation was held on Friday April 12, 2002, from 6 until 9 p.m. atMission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 S.E. Military Dr., San Antonio. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the First Baptist Church in Natalia with Rev. Duane Mayberry and Rev. Richard F. Page Sr. officiating. Interment  followed at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwook Section.
    

Christopher Jon Smith, age 19, went into his Savior's arms on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in Devine.  Service for Christopher was held at Concordia Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Evelyn Marie Sollock, age 69, of Devine passed away Thursday, April 4, 2002, in Devine. She was born in Black Creek, Oct. 7, 1932.    Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, at First Baptist Church with Bro. Earl Willis and Bro. John Bishop officiating. Oneita White of Lytle passed away April 18, 2002. She was born July 11, 1927 in the Texas Panhandle, in Hall
County, near Memphis.    Graveside service was held Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Lytle  Community Cemetery.

Robert Lester Berwick, age 53, of Rio Medina passed away Friday, May 3, 2002, in Castroville. He was born January 27, 1949, in Uvalde.   Visitation was held Sunday, May 5, 2002, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville.   Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6.  The Mass of Resurrection was offered at 10 a.m, Tuesday, May 7. All services and visitation Monday and Tuesday, were at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. Interment followed the mass in the church cemetery.

Adline Corine Keller Bourquin, age 90, of Castroville passed away May 28, 2002, in Castroville. She was born Aug. 24, 1911, in La Coste.   Funeral Mass was held Wednesday,  May 29, at 7 p.m. Rosary was recited

Victoriano Carabajal, age 78, died Monday, May 6, 2002. He was born in Uvalde, on August 31, 1923.

Patrick James Mangold, age 80, of LaCoste passed away May 28, 2002, in San Antonio. Maximina Benites Navarro, age 91, of Hondo passed away May 5, 2002, in San Antonio. Emma Smith Oefinger of Uvalde, formerly of Quihi and Hondo, age 97, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in Amistad Nursing Home in Uvalde.   Graveside service was held at the Quihi Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, with her nephew, Dr. Lawrence Ray Smith of Kerrville, officiating.      She was born March 10, 1905, in Huffman. 

James Ronald "Ronnie" Rand, age 55, of Castroville passed away May 23, 2002, at his home. He was the current administrator for the City of Castroville.    Ronnie  was born on Oct. 5, 1946, in Warren, AR.   A memorial service was led by Rev. Jane Florence, Saturday, May 25, at 4  pm at the Medina Valley United Methodist Church in Castroville. A memorial service was also held  Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at the Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas.  Military Honors were provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Ft. Hood.

Angel Reyes, age 45, of Natalia passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002. He was born Jan. 22, 1957.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Ellen Marie Burell Ricks, age 79, of Castroville passed away May 22, 2002, at her home. Melissa Rodriguez, age 34, of D'Hanis passed away May 7, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo, Jan. 24, 1968.      Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday with Father Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Both services were at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Interment followed in San Francisco Cemetery.

Kathleen "Kaye" Free Rowley, age 65, passed away May 18, 2002. She was born on Nov. 11, 1936.   She will be missed by many friends in Hondo, Michigan and Arizona.

Basilio Sauceda Sr., age 78, of Castroville passed away May 29, 2002. He was born in Hondo, Jan. 31, 1924.       Prayer service was at 7 p.m. Friday led by E.J. Chapa. Nora Rosa Schweers Schorp, born Aug. 9, 1917, passed away on May 16, 2002, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.   Graveside service was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 20.

William H. "Billy" Smith, age 55, of Hondo passed away May 4, 2002. He was born in Poteet on Sept. 2, 1946.

Francisco "Pancho" Soliz entered into eternal rest at the home of his son, Charlie, in Yancey after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease on May 24, 2002.     Funeral arrangements were by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo.

Nathan M. Brantley/CJ A. Magno of Hondo, age 22, and CJ A. Magnon of ConCan, age 21, passed away Sunday, June 22, in a one-vehicle accident near ConCan.     Nathan is survived by his mother, Melinda Hargrove; father, Jim Brantley; sister, Natasha Lee; and nephew, Tristan Gonzales.     Memorial arrangements for Nathan were not available at press time.
    CJ is survived by his mother, Diane Magnon; father, Charles Magnon; and five brothers and sisters, Audrey Willis, Crystal Schafer, Matthew Magnon, Daniel Magnon and Bryan Magnon.

Jules Willis Fontaine, age 80, of Quihi passed away June 2, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born March 16, 1922, in San Antonio.  Graveside service  was led by Rev. Bob Overman, Tuesday, June 4, at 9:15 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Samuel Newton Holden, age 91, of Devine passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2002.   He was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Cedar Park.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2002, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Service was led by Bro. Charles Reasner and Dr. Richard Peterson. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

XAVIER RYAN LeMASTER, born in San Antonio June 12, 2002, went to heaven with Jesus June 13, 2002.    He is survived by his parents, Peter and Amber LeMaster of LaCoste; grandparents, Mitchell and Hortencia LeMaster of Castroville and Eva Armsworthy of Kerrville. JOSEFINA MENDOZA MONCADA, age 58, of Yancey passed away June 12, 2002, in Hondo. Ralph J. Noonan, age 85, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the VA hospital in Kerrville. He was born Mar. 2, 1917, in Hondo.     A small family service was held on his ranch near Dunlay where his cremains were buried.

PCT # 4 Constable Bob J. Brown, age 61, of Devine passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Pearsall on Sunday, Aug. 25, 1940.      Bob was constable for Medina County Pct. #4 for 12 years and a peace officer all his adult life.      Funeral service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Devine.

Estelle Bendele Cannon passed away July 6, 2002, at the age of 88.      "Stell" was born Sept. 18, 1913.    Rosary was recited  Monday, July 8, 7 p.m., at Tondre-Guinn Chapel.  Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, followed by interment in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville. Raul Cantu of Hondo, age 79, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born July 30, 1922, in Eagle Pass.   Raul served in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII.  The Rosary was recited for Raul on Monday, July 22, and a Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday. Both services were at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section. 

Martin Campos Carrillo, age 75, of Lytle passed away, Sunday, July 7, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Atascosa County, Nov. 11, 1926.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment was in San Lorenzo Cemetery, Atascosa County.

Lee Owen Davis passed from this life July 7, 2002, at the V.A. Hospital in Kerrville.    Graveside service was at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, on Wednesday, July 10.    The family has requested donations be made to any favorite charity in the name of Lee Owen Davis.

Silveria DeLeon, age 73, of Yancey passed away July 6, 2002, at her home in Yancey.  She was born in Big Foot, June 20, 1929.    Rosary was at 7 pm. Sunday, July 7, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, led by Father Wallis J. Stiles with music by Gegi Villa. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Stiles officiating. Interment was in the Yancey Cemetery.

Linden Dokken, Linden Dokken  perished while trying to assist others in danger due to rising floodwaters on the upper Sabinal River. A past resident of Odem and Corpus Christi, Linden resided in Utopia, where he was a proud member of the community, living along the banks of the Sabinal.      Born Feb. 28, 1928.      A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Utopia United Methodist Church.      Donations may be made to the Red Cross Flood Relief Fund, a humane society, children's health organization or an organization of your choice.

Ernest Joseph Martin Echtle, age 91, passed away on July 6, 2002, in Hondo.      Ernest was born Feb. 15, 1911, in La Coste.    Rosary was recited Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated  Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste, followed by interment at Our Lady of Grace  Cemetery. Rev. John Manion officiated the services.

Bennie Allen Evans, 66, of Lytle passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, in San Antonio.     Funeral service was held Monday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the Hurley Chapel, Devine.  Interment will be on Thursday, July 11, at Sunset Hills
Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Dora Mae McAnelly Faseler, age 88, of Yancey went home to be with her Lord on July 4, 2002. She was born April 29, 1914.      Funeral service was at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at First United Methodist Church in Hondo, followed by interment in Yancey Cemetery. Rev. Bert Clayton and Rev. Roberto (Beto) Flores, age 60, passed away June 29, 2002.      Rosary was recited on Monday, July 1, at the Treviño Funeral Home in San Antonio. Funeral service was Tuesday at the Treviño Funeral Home. Interment followed in First Memorial Park.

George Geuea, age 97, died Friday, July 19, 2002, in Granbury. He was born April 24, 1905, in Hondo.      Memorial service was at 2 p.m.  Monday, at Wiley uneral Home.

Noble Joe Green of Lytle, age 76,  passed away July 13, 2002, in San Antonio. Noble was born November 13, 1925, at Ft. Sam Houston.   He served in the Air Force during WWII.   Visitation was held Tuesday, July 16, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.  The funeral service was Wednesday at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jane Florence.  Interment  followed the funeral service with military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

James B. Harvey  of Kyote, 68,   passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was held Saturday, July 20 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine. Interment followed at Sand Branch Cemetery, Kyote. 

Emanuel M. Honig of Los Alamos, NM, died July 25, 2002, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston of a rare form of leukemia. Until recently, he had been in remission since shortly after diagnosis in 1991.  Emanuel was born in Fredericksburg on Aug. 25, 1948.    A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, with Rev. David J. Mayer officiating.      He was laid to rest in Los Alamos.

Ella Marie Katharina Nieten-hoefer Lindeburg  passed on from this life into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus, on Monday July,15 2002 at the age of 96.      Ella was born on Sept. 26, 1905, in New Fountain.    A prayer service was held Saturday, July 17, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stephen Schur of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, and Pastor David Mayer of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, officiating. Gladys Lindeburg was organist.      Her cremains will be laid to rest with a private service at a later date.

Henry F. Magnus , beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, entered into eternal peace at age 69 on Saturday, July 20, 2002, ending a brave and determined fight against cancer.  He was born September 25, 1932, in San Antonio.  Henry served in the U.S. Army as a corporal and spent time in Korea.    Funeral service was Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine, with Rev. Robert L. Nixon, Jr. of Bethel Assembly of God presiding.   Interment followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Mary Jewell Mangum , age 78, of Devine, passed away July 24, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Moore, Sept. 19, 1923.   Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Willis officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Joe Howard Martin  of Hondo passed away July 9, 2002, at the age of 72. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Hondo.      Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at First United Methodist Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. A Masonic graveside service was conducted by the Hondo City Lodge 756.

Rosa G. Martinez, age 90, of Hondo passed away July 13, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Yancey Aug. 30, 1911.      Funeral service: 3 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment:  Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Geneva L. (Moehring) Masters, a native of Hondo, loved to assist others, was an avid runner and gifted musician, and dedicated her life to helping children read.   Masters died late Wednesday night from a sudden, massive heart attack. She was 56.     A memorial service was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m.at the Hondo Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Schur of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi officiating.

Louis John Mazurek of Hondo, passed away July 23, 2002, at the age of 70. He was born in Bandera, Aug. 28, 1931.   Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Father Wallis Stiles officiating. Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

Norma Nelle Bullard Morehead, age 88, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Hondo, passed away July 11, 2002, in Springfield. She was born in Jasper, FL, on Oct. 16, 1913.      Funeral service: Monday, July 15, 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Hondo.

Dominga G. Munoz of Devine, age 72,  passed away Friday, July 19, 2002, in Hondo. She was born in Goldfinch on April 4, 1930.   Funeral services were Tuesday, July 23, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia- Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Angelita Gutierrez Perez, age 87, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Charlotte.    Funeral service was held Monday at 10 a.m., July 8, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine.

Anselmo Rodriguez, age 78, of Hondo, passed away July 2, 2002, in San Antonio. Funeral Mass was at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

ELVA A. ROSS, 80, of Air Force Village II, formerly of Castroville, passed away Monday, July 30.      The Tondre-Guinn Chapel was open for visitation 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service and interment was held Friday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. at Castroville Community Cemetery.

Lucia Joan Skonitzki Schneider  of Atascosa, age 85, passed away July 9, 2002, in San Antonio. Lucia was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Yorktown.   Visitation and Rosary were held Thursday, July 11, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was offered by Fr. John Mannion Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Macdona. Graveside service and interment was Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown.

Jesus Franco Solis, age 66, of La Coste passed away July 26, 2002, in San  Antonio. He was born August 2, 1935, in Peggy.   Visitation was held Monday, July 29, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste, with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m.  The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Mannion Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment was at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.

John Joseph Sturm, age 79, of Hondo passed away, July 2, 2002. He was born in Castroville on Dec. 31, 1922.     Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jul. 5, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.
    
Clarence John Tschirhart  of Castroville age 95,  passed away July 17, 2002, in Castroville. He was born March 28, 1907, in La Coste.   Just a few short hours before Clarence left this world to be with his Lord, his daughter, Betty, passed away and went to prepare a place for  him to join her in Heaven.  Visitation was held Thursday, July 18, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. A Funeral Mass for Clarence and his daughter was concelebrated by Fr. Mike Horan and Msgr. Thomas Palmer Thursday.  The Rosary was  recited for Clarence and his daughter Friday, led by Fr. Mike Horan. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment  followed the rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

Elizabeth Ann OBetty'  Tschirhart  of Castroville, age 55, passed away July 16, 2002, in San Antonio. Betty was born July 25, 1946, in Castroville.  Just a few short hours after Betty left this world to be with her Lord, her father, Clarence, also went to join her in Heaven.   Visitation was Thursday, July 18, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. A Funeral Mass for Betty and her father was concelebrated by Fr. Mike Horan and Msgr. Thomas Palmer Thursday.  The Rosary was recited for daughter and father Friday, led by Fr. Mike Horan. Both services were at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment followed the rosary at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery,  Castroville.

Leonardo Nino Castro, age 81, of Devine passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in Devine. He was born in Somerset, June 28, 1921.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romero Olivares officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Marie Tillie Van Overdenborger - De Cock, age 88, was born Aug. 26, 1914, and was born to eternal life on her birthday, Aug. 26, 2002.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, and Funeral Mass was offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church. Interment followed at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No. 2.

Alvin Gerhard Dornbusch, of Knippa died on Aug. 11, 2002, at the age of 88 years. He was born on Oct. 15, 1913.    Funeral service was held Aug. 16, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa with Pastor Daryl Knox officiating.

Walter J. Etter, age 88, of Castroville passed away Aug. 10, 2002, in Hondo. John Craig Farnan (Sullivan) died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2002, from injuries incurred in an automobile accident in Medina County.      He was born at Nellis Air Force Base, NV, on Sept. 4, 1961.

Lyndal Sue Goin, age 69, of West Columbia, formerly of Hondo, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Lake Jackson. She was born in Flora on Oct. 3, 1932.  Arrangements were by Baker Funeral Home, West Columbia.

Rosa F. Gonzalez, age 88, of Hondo passed away, Aug. 10, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Eagle Pass, Sept. 1, 1913.    Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, led by Fannie Ibarra. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, both  at St. John's Catholic Church. Rev. Jeff Pehl officiated. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
   
James Frank Greer of Hondo,  formerly of Mathis, passed away August 5, 2002, at the age of 86.     A graveside service was held at 11 am Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Seaside Memorial Park, Corpus Christi.

Kayleigh Brook Hernandez, age 7 months, formerly of Hondo, passed away Aug. 11, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born Dec. 17, 2001, in San Antonio.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Church of Christ, Hondo, led by Frank Perkins. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Stella Jackson, age 95, of Devine  passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Lytle. She was born in San Antonio, Mar. 23, 1907.   Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Lytle United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Martin officiating. Interment was in San Fernando Cemetery #3.

Elodia M. Jimenez, age 70, of Lytle passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2002. She was born in Lytle Oct. 22, 1931.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Dr. George Augustas Knaggs of Devine entered eternal rest Aug. 13, 2002, at the age of 85, in Lytle. He was born July 25, 1917.    The funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002,  in Devine.  Interment followed in the Cotulla Cemetery with the Rev. Canon R. Wright
officiating. 

Katherine Imogene Dean Maher, age 80, of Avalon passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2002.  Memorial service was held Sunday at Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with Revs. Sammie Maxwell, Ryan Seawright, Jack Lamb and Dennis Short officiating. Interment followed at a later date at Confidence Methodist Church Cemetery.
   

Vaughn Manning, age 87, of Bigfoot passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, at his residence.      Vaughn served in both World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1963 as CWO4.       Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Jane Edith Marek, age 45, of Devine passed away Aug. 26, 2002. She was born Dec. 10, 1958, in San Antonio.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 31,  at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Devine. Pastor Janice Petty officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Maria de Jesus Marmolejo of Hondo, formerly of Eagle Pass, passed away August 23, 2002, at the age of 58.

Alfred Masur, age 74, of Atascosa passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in San Antonio, Sept. 27, 1927.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom McAnulty officiating. Interment was in Bexar Cemetery, Somerset.

John William McGuffin, age 81, died August 21, 2002,  in San Antonio. He was born June 3, 1921, in Llano.     Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at Ebensberger Funeral Home in Boerne with Rev. Larry Martinez officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Smith Cemetery in Bergheim.

Irma Haby Biediger Moak, age 93, of Castroville passed away August 21, 2002, at the Wilford Hall Medical Center. She was born Dec. 16, 1908, in the Haby Settlement near Rio Medina.     Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 23,  10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary, led by Fr. Jim Conway, recited at 7 p.m. at the Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home. The Mass of Resurrection was concelebrated by Fr. Jim Conway and Msgr. George Stuebben, Saturday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.
   

Mamie Lee Moody, age 73, of Devine passed away in Angleton, Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002. She was born in San Antonio, Feb. 28, 1929.    Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Johnny Melancon officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

George Lee Moore, age 41,  of Sabinal passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002. He was born April 23, 1961, in Houston.     A funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel, Sabinal, at 3:00 p.m. Interment followed in the Waresville Cemetery in Utopia. Diamonique Skye Rodriguez, age 4, of D'Hanis passed away Aug. 8, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo, Sept. 4, 1997.     Survivors include her parents, Anthony Guy and Angelita Rodriguez; sister, Destiny Summer Rodriguez; brother, Anthony Solomon Rodriguez; paternal grandparents, Abel and Adelina Rodriguez; and maternal grandparents, Victor and Angelita Sauceda, all of D'Hanis.    Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, and Funeral Mass was at 10
a.m. Monday, Aug. 12. Both services were at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment was in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.
    
Johnny Rodriguez Sr.  passed away Monday, August 5, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born. May 16, 1943, in Hondo.    Rosary was recited, Thursday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m., at Grimes Chapel in Bandera. Funeral Mass was held Friday, Aug. 9, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with Father Stanley Oleksy officiating.  Interment followed in the Hondo Cemetery.

Peggy E. Rollans, age 62, passed away at her home in San Angelo on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002.      Peggy was born in Rotan on May 5, 1940, and grew up in Roby.      The family received visitors at Johnson's Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden with Rev. Lakan Marions of College Hills Baptist Church presiding.

Albert Walter Schmiz Jr. passed away Aug. 9, 2002, in Kerrville. He was born Dec. 16, 1936.      Albert served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a Vietnam veteran, a "frogman" and a member of the Blue Angels parachuting team, the "Chuting Stars".  

Sarah Elizabeth Schneider  passed away August 31, 2002. She was born on April 12, 1919, in Bardstown, KY.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, and Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Vernell Sibley, age 77, of Hondo passed away August 13, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo October 12, 1924.    Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at New Fountain United Methodist Church, Hondo. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio. Both services were officiated by Dr. Wm. Truede.

Terry Lynn Squyres, age 57, of Devine passed away in San Antonio, Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002. She was born in Yoakum, Oct. 29, 1944.     Mr. Squyres was a member of First Baptist Church, Devine.    Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Young officiating. Interment was in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

John Paul Vasquez Jr., 11/2-month-old infant son of John Paul and Maria Vasquez, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born June 26, 2002, in San Antonio.     Graveside service and interment was held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Lytle Community Cemetery, led by Fr. Olivares. 

Esperanza A. Velazquez age 71, of Devine passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Mexico, Oct. 27, 1930.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
 
Walter A. Weynand, 81, born in Hondo on January 27, 1921, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002, after a brief battle with lung cancer.  Funeral service was Saturday, Aug. 31, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio where he had been a long time member. The Rev. Michael Chalk officiated.   

Clarence H. Wolff, age 91, of D'Hanis passed away Aug. 8, 2002,  in Castroville. He was born in San Antonio, June 23, 1911.    Funeral service was at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Dr. Paul Kacsur officiating. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Angelica Maria Aguinaga/Martha Joele Aguinaga, age 25, and infant daughter, Martha Joele Aguinaga of Lytle, both passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident.    Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Natalia. Interment will be in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Daniel Russell Benke Sr  age 79, of Hondo passed away September 17, 2002.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Church of Christ, Hondo. Interment  followed at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Junior James L. Brewer, age 72, of Moore passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his residence.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Moore Memorial Cemetery, Moore.

Bernice Marcella Carle was born to Richard Reily and Ernestina Nester Carle on June 2, 1914. She went home to the Lord on September 21, 2002, at age 88. Rosary was recited Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass was held Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Fr. W. Stiles conducted both services.

Fidelia Cortinez, age 58, passed away Sept. 12, 2002. Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 13, at Castillo Mission Funeral Home. A chapel service was held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in  Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
   

Adelina L. Duron, age 87, of La Coste passed away Sept. 7, 2002, in Houston. She  was born on Nov. 28, 1914, in Burnet.    Visitation was Monday, Sept. 9, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home and Rev. Jim Conway, assisted by the Guadalupanas,  led a Rosary at 7 p.m. The  Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Rev. John Manion on Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment was Thursday, Sept. 12,  at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.
    

Marlin "Edge" Edgington, 62, a retired truck driver met the angels, Sept. 12, 2002, after battling cancer. He was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Manhattan, KS.      A memorial service was held at the ranch in Yancey for friends and family, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m.

Hannah Fernandez, age 84, of Yancey passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, in Lytle. She was born in Mexico, March 28, 1918.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Gregoria Ibarra Gonzales, age 76, of D'Hanis passed away at her residence on Sept. 17, 2002. She was born Nov. 17, 1925, in D'Hanis.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Sept. 21, with both services being held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Interment was held  at San Francisco Catholic Cemetery, D'Hanis. Services  officiated by Father Wallis J. Stiles.

Patsy M. Peacock Hill, age 87, of Atascosa passed away Sept. 25, 2002.  Graveside service was at 11:30 a.m.,on Tuesday Oct. 1, at Lytle Masonic Cemetery, Lytle. 

Alma Tschirhart Holzhaus, of Castroville passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at the age of 94.  The Tondre-Guinn Chapel was open for visitation from 8:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. Funeral Mass was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct 3, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment followed  in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Bruce Irvin "Bud" Keefer, age 53, of Castroville passed away Sept. 15, 2002, at home after a long illness. Bruce was born April 5, 1949, in Colorado Springs, CO.    Interment was private. A memorial service will be held at a later date and friends will be notified.
    
RUTH R. KNIPPLING, age 85, of Ingram, a resident at Community Care Center in Hondo, passed away Sept. 22, 2002.     Survivors include her husband, Francis D. Knippling of Ingram, and daughter, Kathi Duarte of Bandera who works in Hondo.

Jose Manuel Lara-Santos, age 34, of Lytle passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002. He was born in Mexico on Dec. 15, 1967.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Alfonso Limon, age 58, of Harrah, OK, and formerly of Devine, passed  away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002.   Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Robert Lee Lustgraaf, born March 18, 1942, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2002, at the age of 60.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Hurley Funeral  Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 5, at  St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Devine. Interment will follow at Mission Park South, San Antonio.

Guadalupe Juan OKue' Palacios  went home Sept. 1, 2002,     Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Forest Park Funeral Home in Houston. Burial was Thursday, Sept. 5, at 9 a.m. at Forest Park  Cemetery, Houston.

Elvira Escamilla Palomo, age 60, of Hondo passed away Sept. 29, 2002.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Both services were at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Joye Elma Richardson, age 71, of Natalia passed away Sept. 13, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Del Rio, Aug. 14, 1931.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Dan Pitts officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Eleanor Cecilia Manka Shipley, age 84, of Air Force Village II passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at the Village. She was born February 26, 1918, in Karnes City.    Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 2,  at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Rosary was recited Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway and Deacon Archie Henson. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Thomas Richard "T.R." Stephenson, age 67, of San Antonio  passed away Sept. 20, 2002, at his residence.    Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service was led by Rev. Sammie Swim Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home.  Graveside service with military honors and interment was at 11:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Olga Lydia Schneider Tonne, of Hondo passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at the age of 100.  Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Interment followed at 2:30 p.m. at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, Highway 46 between New Braunfels and Seguin.

William L. Vogel, age 73, of Lytle passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002. He was born in Lubbock, Jan. 2, 1929.  Graveside service was at 10 a.m. at Lytle Community Cemetery with Dan Pitts, Minister, officiating. Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Walter Gregory Baskerville Jr., born May 5, 1939, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at the age of 63.     Mr. Baskerville was a native and former resident of Minneapolis, MN, and had live in San Antonio since 1979.     Private family memorial services were held.
 
Walter Brown Cherry, 89, died Monday, October 14, 2002, in Oklahoma City.      Born December 23, 1912, in Fort Worth. to William W. and Verbena Horger Cherry, Walt grew up in Texas, often visiting his Horger grandparents in Hondo as a child. 

Mary Irma Corona, age 45, of Natalia passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital. She was born in Pearsall, May 14, 1957.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Claudia Lorraine (Gilliam) Coyle, age 55, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 20, 2002. She was born  on June 28, 1947, in Hondo.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at First United Methodist Church. Pastor Richard Martinez and her brother, Lacy Gilliam, conducted the service. She was laid to rest in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Mary Louine (Henry) Dalton, age 99, passed away Oct. 30, 2002. She was born on February 21, 1903.      Graveside service was conducted on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Janice Petty officiating.

Corina Carrasco De La Fuente, age 92, of Castroville passed away Oct. 3, 2002, in San Antonio.      She was born March 22, 1910, in Stockdale.    Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 6,  8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Tondre- Guinn Funeral Home. Rosary was led by Fr. Jim Conway at 5:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church with interment at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Laura Frances "Fran" Johnson, age 85, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at her residence.  She was born in Yancey, Dec. 10, 1916.   

Antoinette "Nettie" Elizabeth Kirk, age 95, of Houston passed away Oct. 22, 2002. She was born June 7, 1907, in LaCoste.    Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment was in Mission Burial Park South.

Pat Maimer,   born in Kansas City, KS, on March 17, 1939,  found peace and comfort on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at home in Kansas surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer.     The family suggests memorials be made to Pancreatic Cancer Society, 2221 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 1, El Segundo, CA 90245.

Jaime Silvas Martinez, age 29, of Sabinal died Oct. 23, 2002, in an automobile accident four miles east of Sabinal. He was born June 30, 1973, in Hondo.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Oct. 25, Thursday at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel in Sabinal. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sabinal with Father Einer Ochoa officiating. Interment was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sabinal.

Ida Louise Lindeburg Mangold died Oct. 22, 2002, having reached the age of  103 years, eight months, 16 days.     She achieved something not many people accomplish ­ her life-span included time during three centuries. She was born on Feb. 6, 1899, in the New Fountain community of Medina County.  Memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home with Pastor David Mayer officiating. Interment will be in Quihi Cemetery.

Eunice Damron Oldham, born to R. H. and Alice Damron on April 14, 1921, in Crews, went to be with the Lord October 19, 2002.     Vistation was held on Monday, Oct.21.   Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Pearsall Church of Christ at 1 p.m. Burial followed in the Pearsall Cemetery.

William Ray "Buddy" Schulte, age 67, of Hondo passed away, Oct. 3, 2002, in Hondo. He was born Jan. 12, 1935, north of Quihi.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, with Rev. Stephen Schur officiating. Interment was in Quihi Cemetery.

Boyce Sliva, age 63, of Devine passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Craig Strum officiating.

Ruben "Shicken" Tapia passed from this life Friday, Oct. 11, 2002.    Ruben's life was celebrated in prayer at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, officiated by Johnny Hernandez and Albert Villa. Robert D. Trapp, age 65, of Hondo passed away Oct. 27, 2002.      Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Bernadine Walling, age 83, of Uvalde passed away Oct. 29, 2002, in Uvalde.  She was born in Bonham on Jan. 1, 1919.    Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Fort Sam Houston National  Cemetery led by Charles Sweeten.  

The Lord blessed the world with the birth of Dorothy Raye Warner, born on Jan. 19, 1925, passed away Oct. 13, 2002.      Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, with Rosary Prayers by Archbishop P.F. Flores, Msgr. Vincent Fecher, Rev. Jeff Pehl, Alleen and Romona Koch. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, led Rev. Jeff Pehl and Bishop John McCarthy, with both services being at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Entombment followed in the St. John Mausoleum in the Hondo Cemetery.

Alice M. Atkins, age 90, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002. She was born October 17, 1912.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. till service time at the funeral home.     Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Chapel of the Hurley Funeral Home, with Rev. Janice Petty officiating. Interment  followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

William "Bill" Bohlen, a longtime resident of Bisbee, AZ, died Aug. 20, 2002, of complications from Alzheimer's. He was residing in a care facility in Mesa at the time of this death. He was born July 11, 1936, in Bisbee. 

Hyllis Ann Bradshaw, age 62, of Universal City passed away Nov. 5, 2002. She was born in Austin on Dec. 13, 1939.   Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Dr. William Treude officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Dionicio Burvato, age 93, of Castroville passed away Nov. 23, 2002, at home. He was born Oct. 1, 1909, in Castroville.   Visitation was Monday, Nov. 25, and Rosary was led by the Rev. Jim Conway at 7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Conway Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Olga Camacho, age 45, of Devine passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo, Jan. 9, 1957.   Funeral services was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aguirre. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
 

Julio E. Campos, age 72, of Taylor passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Temple. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Hondo.    Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taylor, with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. 

Carolyn M. Collins, age 86, of Adkins died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002. She was born in D'Hanis, on July 5, 1916.   Service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, St. Hedwig. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Finch Chapel, LaVernia. Entombment was in Annunciation BVM Mausoleum with Father Bill Zodora officiating.

Russell Edgar Cunningham, age 78, of Lytle passed away on Nov. 27, 2002, at home. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in San Antonio.      Visitation was Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel in Castroville and prior to the 3 p.m. service Sunday at the Lytle United Methodist Church.

Jose Rodriguez DeLeon, age 78, of Mansfield, formerly of Bigfoot and Devine, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Tarrant County. He was born in Bigfoot, Sept. 18, 1924.      Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia-Aquirre officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jose F. Fraga, age 65, of Natalia passed away Nov. 17, 2002, in San Antonio. Guillermo H. "Willie"  Gallegos, age 29, of Hondo passed away Nov. 29, 2002, in San Antonio. Etta Ruth Johnson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Hilltop Care Center. She was born on Aug. 24, 1951, in Bandera.      Funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Parlor, Bandera with Pastor Martin Smith and Pastor Jack Cook officiating. Alberta Ida Groff Naegelin, age 86, of Castroville passed away Nov. 30,  2002, in Castroville. Dr. Franklin Russell Rozell, age 69, of Houston died on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his residence. He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Livingston.   Memorial service was conducted on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Bo Owens officiating.

Jesse M. Semmelmann, age 82, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.     Graveside service and internment were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at Lockhill Cemetery in San Antonio.

Delcie Lee (Tillotson) Smith of Tarpley passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in San Antonio after a long illness. She reached the age of 73 years. Delcie was born  June 24, 1929, in Utopia.     Her life was celebrated with a funeral service on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Puente and Sons Funeral Chapel, Hondo. She was laid to rest at the Tarpley Cemetery, following the funeral service. George Randall of the Church of Christ, Hondo,  officiated at both services.

Clayton Ronald Sprenger, age 5, of San Antonio passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.      Funeral service was held Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Barbara June Thomas, age 77, of Devine passed away Saturday Nov. 9, 2002, in San Antonio.  Funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Devine, with the Rev. David Cooke officiating.     Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

David G. Ybarra, age 56, passed away Nov. 3, 2002, at home in Hondo. He was born in Hondo April 7, 1946.   Prayer service was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with music and prayers by Gegi Villa. Funeral service was at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, Nov. 6, at First Baptist Church with Charles Schlentz of New Covenant Fellowship Church, officiating.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Julio Aguilar, age 82, of Moore, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Moore, Jan. 9, 1920.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Garcia officiating. Interment followed in Moore Catholic Cemetery.

Adolfina Arredondo, age 72, of Hondo passed away Dec. 10, 2002, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo on June 16, 1930.     Rosary was at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, with auspices by Rosa Maria Galvan. Mass was at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Francis Roy Barger, age 79, of Hondo passed away in Helotes, Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2002. Roy was born Feb. 14, 1923, in St. James, LA.    Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 19, from 12 noon to 8 p.m., and the Rosary was held at 7 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel.   Funeral Mass was celebrated  Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment was held at St. Louis Catholic
Cemetery. 

Ramona Y. Barrientes, age 79, of Hondo passed away Dec. 13, 2002. She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in San Marcos.     Rosary was recited on Monday, Dec. 16 at the Guinn Horger Funeral Home Chapel with auspices by Epifania Ybarra. Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17,  at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church lead by Rev. Jeff Pehl. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

James Shelton Bates Jr.,, age 60, of Hondo passed away Dec. 10, 2002. He was born Mar. 23, 1942, in Evant.    Funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 13, at New Fountain Methodist Church and officiated by Johnney J. Whiteaker. Interment followed in the New Fountain Cemetery. 

Darlene Elaine Blomstedt, age 41, died on Dec. 4, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was born Nov. 2, 1961, in San Antonio.    Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor David Mayer officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Elma Dora Grube Brieten, age 95, passed away peacefully Dec. 23, 2002.  She was born Dec. 4, 1907, in Reedville.     Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 26, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor David Mayer officiating. Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Patricia "Pat" K. Milam Byrn, age 66, formerly of La Coste passed away Dec. 1, 2002, at home in Glen Allen, VA. She was born Feb. 4, 1936, in San Antonio.  The Chapel at Tondre-Guinn was open for her memorial visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Memorial service  followed the visitation at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.

Gary Ellis Dear, age 49, of Moss Point, MS, passed away Dec. 10, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born Aug. 31, 1953, in Vidor.    Memorial service was at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, Castroville. 

James David Derrick, age 49, of D'Hanis passed away Dec. 7, 2002, in D'Hanis. He was born in Houston on July 22, 1953.   Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at First Baptist Church of downtown El Paso.

Leo Paul Echtle, age 88, of La Coste passed away Dec. 9, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born Feb. 15, 1914, in Bexar County near La Coste. Visitation was held at Tondre-Guinn Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 11, and the Rosary was led by Rev. Gerald Haby at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. Funeral Mass was con-celebrated by Rev. Gerald Haby and Rev. John Mannion at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the church and interment was at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, La Coste.

Marisa Cristal Vera Esquibel was born Lovington, NM, on Feb. 4, 1966, and passed away in Natalia,  on Dec. 7, 2002.   Rosary was recited and Mass was celebrated, Wednesday, Dec. 11,  in St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Natalia. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Refugia "Cuca" Robles Gauna, age 98, of Yancey passed away Dec. 13, 2002, in Hondo. She was born in Yancey on July 4, 1904.   Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with auspices by Richard A. Edminson. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father
Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment followed in Yancey Cemetery.

Hilda Ella Louise Bauer Grollimund passed away Dec. 16, 2002, in her residence in Wilson County. She was born in Seguin.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel, Floresville, with interment following in the Floresville City Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Hoffman Haegelin announces her death on Dec. 18, 2002. She was born Jan. 11, 1918, in San Diego, TX. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, led by Ramona and Alleen Koch, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, with Rev. Jeff Pehl and Rev. Leslie Vance officiating. Both services were at St. John's Catholic Church.  Interment was in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.

Clara E. Hankins, age 98, of Kerrville passed away Dec. 15, 2002, in Hondo. She was born in Hondo, Oct. 10, 1904.    She was cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date.

Carolina Garcia Hernandez, age 83, of Castroville passed away in San Antonio, Monday morning, Dec. 30, 2002. Carolina was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Castroville.   Visitation and the Rosary were held Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church.  Interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

William E. Johnston, age 86,of Hondo went to be with the Lord Dec. 15, 2002. He was born in Houston on Dec. 16, 1915.    Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels, Hondo. Graveside followed at 12 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.

Walter Joyce Jr. age 59, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2002, at home in Lytle. He was born June 20, 1943, in  Lytle.   Visitation was Tuesday at the Tondre- Guinn Chapel and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to service time, which began at 10 a.m., at the Lytle United Methodist Church. Interment was at the Lytle Community Cemetery.

Claudia Boubel Jungman, age 59, of Castroville passed away at home, late Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2002. Claudia was born Jan. 12, 1943, in Castroville.    Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 22, at Tondre-Guinn Chapel.   Funeral Mass was celebrated  Sunday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m., and the Rosary was Monday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. Both services were held at  St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville with Rev. Jim Conway officiating. Following the Rosary, interment was at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Ophaie Floyd Kent, age 79, passed away Dec. 25, 2002, at his home in Quihi. He was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Boyd.     A celebration of his life was held Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, 11 a.m., at Tondre-Guinn Chapel in Castroville, with Pastor Stephen Schur of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, officiating. Interment was at 2 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Edward Knight, age 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.     A graveside service was held Dec. 5, 2002, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Barbara Lee Langfeld, age 74, of Corpus Christi passed away  Dec. 28, 2002. She was born in D'Hanis, Oct. 11, 1928.   Funeral Mass was at noon, Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Wallis J. Stiles officiating. Interment followed in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Modesto Tobar Leal, age 74, of Devine passed away Dec. 31, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Hondo, Feb. 24, 1928.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating. Interment followed in the Yancey Cemetery, Yancey.

David Martinez was born on Sept. 7, 1948, in Hondo. He passed from this life Dec. 30, 2002.   Holy Rosary was recited Friday, Jan. 3, at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels and Requiem Mass celebrated Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery.

Andrew L. May, age 79, of Columbia Heights, MN, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002.    Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Washburn-McReavy Columbia Heights Chapel. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Leonardo Navarro, age 101, of Devine passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Marin, Mexico, March 12, 1901.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia- Aguirre officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemtery. 

Thomas Peyton Nowlin, II age 88, of Devine passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002.   Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Hurley Funeral Home, and on Sunday, Dec. 15 the family received friends in the parlor of the First Baptist Church, Devine. Funeral service was held at  2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at First Baptist Church with interment following at Longview Cemetery, Bigfoot. 

Donald W. O'Connell, age 71, of Willow, AK, passed away at his home Dec. 25, 2002. He was born April 14, 1931, in Riverside, CA.   A graveside service with full military honors was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery, Ft. Richardson, AK.

Ernesto Olivares, age 77, of Natalia passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in San Antonio. He was born in Rossville, Aug. 5, 1925.     Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church with Father Romeo Olivares officiating.  Interment followed in Rossville/Olivares/Brown Cemetery.

Ada Mae Patteson, age 84, of Devine passed away, Dec. 18, 2002, in Medina County. She was born in Pleasanton, Nov. 7, 1918.   Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sidney Booth. Interment followed in Sand Branch Cemetery. 

Clifton C. Pichot, formerly of Quihi, passed away at the age of 56 in Laredo. He was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Hondo.   Visitation was Friday, Dec. 27, at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels. A church service was held Saturday, Dec. 28, at 9 a.m. in Laredo and graveside service was at 3 p.m. in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood  Section. A reception followed at the First Baptist Church in Hondo.

Elizabeth (Beth) Marie Gaines Robbins, age 76, passed away Dec. 31, 2002, in Quihi. She was born in Shreveport, LA, Aug. 18, 1926.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi with Rev. Stephen Schur officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Linda Thompson Roots, age 62, of Helotes passed away  Dec. 10, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Corpus Christi.    The family held a private memorial service.

Ora Edith Turner Schott, age 93, of Helotes passed away Dec. 25, 2002.     Vigil prayer service was Friday, Dec. 27, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday, with both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, elotes. Interment was in Helotes Catholic Cemetery.

Marjorie Bowles Shaw, age 74, of Devine passed away Dec. 17, 2002. She was born on Feb. 29, 1928, in Merryville, LA.   Funeral service was held on Dec. 19, at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Whitt. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Bessie Gill Smith, age 92, of Castroville passed away Dec. 7, 2002, in Castroville. She was born on Sept. 16, 1910, in Milam County.    Visitation was Sunday at Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at First Baptist Church in Castroville with Rev. Eddie Hall officiating and interment was at the Castroville Community
Cemetery.

Roberto A. Soto, age 81, of Natalia passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in Devine. He was born in Lytle, April 29, 1921.   Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Msgr. Pablo Sicilia. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jose Roberto Torres, age 64, of Hondo passed away Dec. 26, 2002. He was born in Saginaw, MI, on Oct. 2, 1938.   Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Both services were at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Eleanor Catherine Haby Tuck passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at the age of 62 after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson's disease. She was born on Sept. 15, 1940, in Hondo.   A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Roy Akers. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Selma). Interment followed in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
