Jose Solis Arcos, age 86, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Burleson.  Mr. Arcos was a retired supervisor for H.B. Zachry Construction Co. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church of Burleson.

Raymond Bowen, age 77, of Conroe died June 3, 2001. He was a paratrooper in the Army during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and two different Purple Hearts. He retired from Kelly AFB after working 32 years in Civil Service as an office supervisor.
     Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, June 6 at Grimes Funeral Chapel, Bandera.

Marissa Dandi Burleson, age 21, passed away June 17, 2001. She was born on Feb. 11, 1980.
     She was to begin her senior year at Angelo State University in the fall where she was majoring in Special Education and Kinesiology. She had graduated from Nueces Canyon High School.
     Funeral service: 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at First Baptist Church, Barksdale.

Loisera 'Lois' Civiletto, age 73, of Natalia passed away Thursday, June 14, 2001, in San Antonio.
     She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Vivian W. Coquillette
, age 77, of Sabinal passed away June 21, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Lorena, Dec. 10, 1923. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Hondo Cemetery.

Joseph Neely Blankenship, age 71, of Hondo passed away June 22, 2001, in Pecos. Graveside service: Wednesday, June 27, at Quihi Cemetary , Quihi.  

Cresencia Estrada, age 101, of Lytle passed away in Devine. She was born in Mexico on May 5, 1900. Mrs. Estrada was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
     Funeral service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church.

Clarence Anthony Haass, 88, lifelong resident of Hondo, died June 18, 2001. He was born Sept. 18, 1912. He worked for many years for the Hondo Post Office. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hondo.

Menno M. Hamm of San Antonio passed away June 13, 2001, at the age of 78.
     Menno was a S/Sgt in the US Air Force during WWII, and retired from the U.S. Civil Service.
     Rosary: 7 p.m. Sunday, June 17. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday. Both services at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis.

Walter Warren Hemby, 37, of San Antonio died June 15, 2001.   Funeral service: St. George Episcopal Church, San Antonio, Tuesday, June 19.

Christian Jacob Hostetler, age 85, of Devine passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Devine.   Graveside service: 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Wimberley Cemetery in Wimberley.

Michael Lee Ilse, age 59, of Houston died June 4, 2001.  Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Earthman Bellaire Chapel in Houston.       The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Houston, Gulf Coast Chapter, 2425 Fountainview, Suite 280, Houston, TX, 77057.



Stanley Gustave "Pud" Keller Jr.,
Medina County Precinct 2 Commissioner, age 60, of Castroville passed away June 30, 2001. He was born April 24, 1941, in Castroville. Funeral: Mass of Resurrection at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, at St. Louis Catholic Church.  Interment:  at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.


Angie Rose Pavelka Koehler, age 80, of San Antonio passed away June 12, 2001.    Rosary: 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection: 10 a.m. Friday. Interment was at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Antonio Ortiz Martinez, age 86, of Lytle passed away June 20, 2001, in Lytle. He was born in Lytle, Feb. 27, 1915. Funeral service: 9 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine.  

Randy Mendoza, age 43, of Little Rock, AR, formerly of Fort Smith, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Little Rock. He was a truck driver for Eagle Trucking Co. in Little Rock. Funeral service: 2 p.m. in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, AR. 

Pete Muzquiz, age 93, of Moore passed away on June 21, 2001. Pete's first love was cattle raising. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, in St. Josephıs Catholic Church in Devine. 

Robert E. "Bobby" Nester, age 71, of Hondo passed away June 24, 2001. He was born in Hondo Sept. 1, 1929. He was a rancher and owned and operated Nester's Supermarket for many years. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. 

Daina Annmarie Ramirez was born and died Tuesday, June 19, 2001. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery , Devine. 

Troy Wayne Richardson, age 74, of Devine passed away Sunday, June 24, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born on Friday, June 10, 1927. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel , Devine.

Olga Carolina Schweers Riff was born June 27, 1898, in the home of her parents, John H. and Elizabeth Heyen Schweers. She was baptized Aug. 28, 1898, and confirmed Sept. 8, 1911, in the New Fountain Methodist Church where she remained a member until her death on June 13, 2001, at the age of 102, 11 months and 17 days.   Olga was a hard-working homemaker and enjoyed gardening and working outdoors.   Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at New Fountain United Methodist Church.

Guadalupe Gonzales Tapia, age 62, of Hondo, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001. She was born in Hondo, on June 30, 1938. She was the pastor of Templo De Dios Pentecostal in Hondo for five years. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Dawson  Chapel. Interment: Hondo Cemetery.

Cheyenne Alexis Ward was born June 6, 2001. She died June 30, 2001, at the age of three weeks, three days. Yolanda G. Wilburn, age 69, of Devine passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, in San Antonio.    Mrs. Wilburn was a member of the First Christian Church. Memorial service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruth Bernice Wilke, age 82, of San Antonio passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, in San Antonio.   Graveside service: Wednesday, June 20, at the Black Hills Cemetery, South Bexar County.

Mildred Fohn Williams  passed away June 24, 2001, at the age of 82.  Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Guinn-Horger Chapel.  Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Kenneth A. Wolfe, Ph.D., director of Driscoll Public Library in Devine, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in San Antonio. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, at St. Mathias Episcopal Church, Devine.

Amador "Mayo" Bermea, 70, of D'Hanis passed away July 7, 2001. He was born in D'Hanis March 21, 1931. He was a farmer. Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial in San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis.

Rebeca Chapa, born on March 12, 1912 in Devine, passed away July 2, 2001, at the age of 89. Funeral mass: 9 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.Interment: Mission Burial Park South.

Jimmie G. Chessher Sr., age 69, of Atascosa passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001, in San Antonio.  Funeral service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, in Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: St. Joseph's Cemetery in Devine. The family suggests that memorials be given to Medina County Association for Exceptional Citizens (MCAEC), P.O. Box 33, Hondo, TX 78861.

Bettye Bridgman Crow-Peterson of Lytle and San Antonio, age 72, passed away July 21, 2001.  She was born on Nov. 14, 1928, in San Angelo.  Memorial service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 25 at Porter Loring Chapel.  Private burial service was held at San Fernando Cemetery #3.

Maria DeLua was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Laredo, one of 12 children.     Mrs. DeLua lived in San Antonio throughout most of her life. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, SanAntonio. Interment: Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  

Manuel Duran Jr., age 79, of Hondo, passed away Monday, July 16, 2001, at his home. He was born April 23, 1922. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial: Guadalupe Section of Hondo Cemetery. 

Augustine G. Estrada, age 75, of Lytle passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born in Lytle, May 5, 1926.  Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, at St. Andrewıs Catholic Church. Interment: Perez Family Cemetery, Natalia.

 

Sterling C. Evans, age 101, of Brackettville, formerly of Castroville, passed away July 5, 2001, in Del Rio. He was born in Black Creek settlement Aug. 5, 1899.  Funeral: Tuesday, July 10, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Castroville, with burial in Community Cemetery. 




Patricia Faye Fowler, age 47, of Devine passed away Saturday July 21, 2001.  She was born in San Antonio, Nov. 20, 1953.  Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Monday, July 23 at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Esperanza Maria (Cabrera) Frausto, age 69, of Hondo passed away July 30, 2001. She was born on Dec. 20, 1932, in Biry.    Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo.  Interment: Yancey Cemetery, Yancey.

Charles Wesley Gabehart, age 89, passed away on July 12, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Caddo County, OK. He had been in the service station business nearly 50 years. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devine.

Henry A. Guerra Jr., age 82, died Sunday, July 1, 2001.  A veteran of WWII, he was well-known as a San Antonio newsman. LTC Donald H. Hagle, USAF (Ret.), of Castroville, age 57, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001. He was a graduate of MacArthur High School in San Antonio. Graveside service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. 

Eunice Knowles Hysaw Harris, age 88, of San Antonio passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2001.  She was born in Hondo on Jan. 10, 1913. Funeral service: 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 17 at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio.  Interment was in Cottonwood Cemetery, Hondo.

Stella M. Mahoney Kenney, age 93, of Somerset passed away July 19, 2001 at her home. Stella was born Mar. 1, 1908, in San Patricio.  Mass of Resurrection: 10 a.m, Saturday, July 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Interment followed in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Somerset.  Family suggested memorials be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund or to the charity of one's choice.

Joseph Louis Koch Sr., age 81, died in San Antonio on July 13, 2001. He was born on Mar. 18, 1920. He retired from the oil and gas business in Houston and moved to his ranch in Yancey, later to Corpus Christi, and finally settled back in San Antonio where he was born. Funeral service: Monday, July 16, 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in San Antonio. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at South Park Cemetery in Houston. Frances J. Masters Kraemer, age 78, of Castroville passed away July 16, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Springdale, AR. Funeral service: Thursday, July 19, at 9 a.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Chapel. Interment: Castroville Community Cemetery.

Patrick Locklin, age 57, of Hondo passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001. He was born Sept. 28, 1943, to Percy and Thelka Swartz Locklin. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Herminia Diaz Martinez of Uvalde passed away July 7, 2001, at the age of 101. She was born March 3, 1900. Funeral: Monday, July 9, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Uvalde, with burial in Hondo Cemetery.

Lydia Pearl (Gerdes) Mofield, age 88 years, passed away July 20, 2001.  She was born Mar. 12, 1913 in Yancey. Funeral service:  3 p.m. , Sunday, July 22, in the Yancey Methodist Church with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery in Hondo.  Family suggested memorials be made to the Yancey United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice.

Anita H. Ortiz, age 74, of Devine passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001.  She was born in Devine on Sept. 21, 1926.  Funeral service: 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Louise Reavis, age 66, of Sabinal, passed away July 2, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Camp Wood on Oct. 8, 1934. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Waresville Cemetery,  Utopia. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Gerald A. Rothe of Chesterfield, MO, passed away July 23, 2001.  Gerald was born in San Antonio on September 22, 1920. Funeral service: Friday, July 27, 10 a.m., Incarnate Word Church, Chesterfield, MO. 

Louis Schmiz of Hondo, age 59,  passed away Saturday, July 18, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born Jan. 5, 1942, in Corpus Christi. Private family service held Saturday, July 28.

James Thomas Street of rural Hondo passed away July 23, 2001, at the age of 52. He was formerly of Scottdale, PA, and was retired from the Navy.

Lucille Marie (Robinson) Vogel, age 87, of Hondo passed away Monday, July 23, 2001. She was born in Hondo on Jan. 10, 1914. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section.

Herbert Frank Adam, age 83, of San Antonio (formerly of LaCoste and Kerrville) passed away Aug. 23, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in LaCoste to the late Joseph Jacob Adam and Ida Haegelin Adam. He retired from Kelly AFB in 1975 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post #8134. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. Interment: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, LaCoste. 

Mary Helen Romero Balderrama, age 67, of LaCoste passed away Aug. 2, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born July 22, 1934, in San Antonio to the late Crescencion Romero and Guadalupe Garza Romero. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and the VFW Post 8134 Ladies Auxiliary.

Hilmer Ernest Bendele, age 76, of San Antonio passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2001. He was born in Dunlay July 25, 1925.     Hilmer retired from San Antonio City Public Service Board as a  safety supervisor after 36 years of service.
    Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery.

Carroll Dennis Biediger, originally of LaCoste, passed away on Aug. 26, 2001, at the age of 58. He was born Mar. 27, 1943 to Richard and Rose Reicherzer Biediger. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection: 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in San Antonio. Interment: Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. 

Floyd Franklin Bradley, age 62, of Castroville passed away Aug. 24, 2001, at home. He was born April 4, 1939, in Robert Lee. Mr. Bradley had retired from Southwest Research, where he had worked as a research assistant. No services are scheduled at this time. 

Irene L. Bradley, age 91, of San Antonio passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Hondo. She was born in Hondo, Dec. 23, 1909.   Memorial service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rev. Bill Nogues officiating.

Reverend Charles J. Bush, age 66, of Devine passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in San Antonio.
   Funeral service: 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the First Baptist Church, Devine. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery.

Jesse Costa, age 59, of Hondo passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in Hondo. He was born in Kerrville on May 20, 1942.

Lidia M. Cuellar, age 64, of Hondo passed away Aug. 16, 2001. She was born in San Antonio, April 12, 1937. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug 18, St. Johnıs Catholic Church. Interment: Hondo Cemetery.

PATRICK JOHN DONAHUE, age 53, of San Antonio passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born June 14, 1948, in San Antonio.
   Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery,  LaCoste.

LUZ GARCIA DURON, age 97, of LaCoste passed away Aug. 7, 2001, in San Antonio, with her daughters at her side. She was born Dec. 1, 1903, in LaCoste to the late Sixto Garcia and Modesta Duron Garcia.
   Mass of Resurrection: 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment:  Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, LaCoste.

Geraldine "Jerry" Masters Eardley, age 74, of Castroville passed away Aug. 24, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Springdale, AR, to the late Pat C. and Maude Anderson Masters. Jerry owned and operated Cora's Cafe for 35 years. When she became ill, she sold the cafe and retired. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment: Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio. 

Yolanda Botello Galvan, age 64, of San Antonio passed away Aug. 1, 2001. She was born in San Antonio, Mar. 12, 1937.    Graveside service:t 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Castroville Community Cemetery.

William V. Glenn, M.D., age 85, of San Antonio, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001. He was a member of the Emergency Room staff at Methodist and Baptist hospitals as well as the medical clinic in Hondo. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Monday in the Church of Reconciliation Episcopal, San Antonio.

Former Arizona State Senator August Valentine "Bill" Hardt of Globe, AZ, age 94, passed away on Aug. 1, 2001. Born Nov. 12, 1906, in Leinweber Settlement, near Hondo, he was the son of Henry Lee and Katherine (Leinweber) Hardt. He grew up in the Hondo area. Funeral: Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Miami High School Auditorium in Miami, AZ. Interment: Globe (AZ) Cemetery. 

Richard Lane "Rick" Heston, age 41, of LaCoste passed away Aug. 16, 2001, in Bexar County. He was born on Sept. 15, 1959, in San Antonio. Graveside service: Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. at Devine Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & South Texas, Inc., 2224 Walsh Tarlton Lane, Suite 200, Austin, TX 78746.

Mary Frances Keller, age 84, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001. She was born on Oct. 4, 1916.
    She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and many other organizations. She was the first woman vice president in San  Antonio, working at Alamo National Bank for 42 years.

Hershel Lloyd Lawrence, age 69, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at the Methodist Hospital, San Antonio. He was born May 21, 1932, in Mexico, MO.   Memorial service  at 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, at the SKP Park on Old Hwy 90, west of Hondo near D'Hanis. 

Arnulfo C. Leal, age 94, of Yancey passed away Aug. 31, 2001, in Hondo. He was born in Mexico Oct. 7, 1906, and was a farmer.    Funeral  Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Interment: Yancey Cemetery, Yancey.

MILDRED VERA LEWIS, age 85, of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001.     She married Vernon Howard Lewis on Aug. 1, 1940, in Goldthwaite and was a homemaker.    Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Stacy-Wilkins Chapel.  Interment:  Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.

Ronald "Ronnie" Robert Ruiz, age 23, of San Antonio died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, in an automobile accident.

Heather Marie Tracy, age 19, passed away in San Antonio Aug. 14, 2001. She was born in Alamogordo, NM, on Aug. 25, 1981. Charles Willingham, age 73, of Annapolis, MD, formerly of Sabinal, died Aug. 5, 2001, at home of lung and brain cancer. Chalee Jane Wootan  brought love and joy to her parents, Trudy Ann Dixon and Jerry Dean Wootan Jr. and loved ones for seven  months. Phil Richard Aelvoet, age 52, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 23, 1949, in San Antonio to Phil and Laura Aelvoet. He grew up farming with his family and at the time of his death, he was employed at the Texas A&M Agricultural Research Facility in Uvalde. Rosary: 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. Huette 'Sonny' Cammack, age 58, of rural Hondo died Sunday, Sept. 30, at his ranch home. He was born April 23, 1943, in Martinsburg, WV. He was founder of Alamo Water in San Antonio. He was very active in the water quality industry and was a past president of the Florida Water Quality Association and the Texas Water Quality Association. He was currently a member of the board of directors of the National Water Quality Association. He was a member of the National Rifle Assn. and Quihi Gun Club. Robert W. DePuy Sr., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at his home in San Antonio. He was born Feb. 5, 1916, in San Antonio to Jay and Beulah Stearns DePuy. He was a lifelong South Texas resident, he attended San Antonio Junior Academy, Texas Military Institute, Schreiner Institute and college in Tempe, AZ. Harriet Belle Gaut Ephraim, age 98, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, in Denton. She was born Feb. 9, 1903, in Smithville to Samuel Perry and Allie  Albina Baker Gaut. She was a teacher. She was preceded in death by her

Iona Carlson Fetner died on Sept 3, 2001, in Hondo at the age of 93.      Iona was born Jan. 23, 1908, to Charlie and Ellen Lohman in Travis County  near  historic Lohman's Crossing, named after Iona's great-grandfather, John Henry Lohman, an immigrant from Hanover, Germany.      Funeral service: Amey-Rockwood Lane Funeral Home in Austin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. A.W. "Bill" Fiorenza, age 72, of Natalia, passed away Sept. 12, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born May 12, 1929, in Donaldsonville, LA. Charles L. Halbardier of Hondo passed away Sept. 1, 2001, at the age of 61. He was born in San Antonio June 5, 1940, to Charlie H. and Laura E. Halbardier. He graduated from Northside High School in San Antonio.   On May 13, 1960, he married Annie J. Inez Alma Biry Haass, age 83, of Devine passed away Sept. 7, 2001. She was born in Hurley, NM, July 22, 1918, to Frank J. and Martha C. (Bippert) Biry.     She lived in the Biry community most of her life. Edren (Bohmfalk) Robins, age 70, passed away Sept. 12, 2001, in New Braunfels after suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. She was born in New Fountain on Dec. 18, 1930. Edren enjoyed a 25 year career with the U.S. Civil Service at Kelly AFB and Battle Creek, MI. Robert Louis Thayer, age 70, of Houston passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Houston. He was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Hondo, the son of Ernest B. and Ida Marie Senne Thayer. He served with the United States Air Force and was a retired machinist with the TRW Corporation in Houston. Graveside service: Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. 

John H. Walker, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in San Antonio at the age of 75. He was born June 26, 1926, in Huntsville. He served in the United States Navy and retired from the Texas State Highway Department after 33 years of service. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Born on April 29, 1922, William H. (Brother Bill) Wiggins finished his earthly mission on Sept. 1, 2001, in San Antonio.    He served his country in World War II as a lifeboat captain for the U.S. Coast Guard. Prior to his religious conversion, Brother Bill was a hard living and hard working jack-of-all-trades and one-time Texas Ranger.  After he retired from his career in law enforcement, he devoted his life to the service of others through God.

Richard C. Aguilar, age 51, of Devine passed away in San Antonio, Tuesday, October 23, 1950.  Mr. Aguilar was a member of the American Trucking Association and the O.T.R. James F. Barta, age 70, of Lytle and formerly of Natalia, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001. Memorials be made to the American Heart Association, South Texas Region, P.O. Box 29306, San Antonio, TX 78229. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Natalia. Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hallettsville. 

Jimmie Coldwell Beck, age 74, of D'Hanis passed away October 15, 2001 in San Antonio.  He was born in Edna, August 29, 1927.  Mr. Beck retired from the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Sgt.  after 23 years of service.  He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father W. Stiles officiating.  Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Full military burial honors were provided by the USMC.

Milton Joe Bohmfalk, age 82, of Katy , formerly of Houston, passed away October 18, 2001. He was born in Hondo on September 18, 1919, and moved to Houston in the early 1940's.  In 1942, he joined the Army and was a Corporal in the 744th Military Police Battalion.  He returned to Houston after leaving the military and began working at Masury Paint Co., where he retired after 30 years of service in outside sales.  Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 20, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy with Rev. Chad McMillan officiating.  Graveside service followed at 1 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, in Schulenburg.

Cindy Kay Book, age 41, of Castroville, passed away October 20, 2001.  She was born at Lackland Air Force Base, July 23, 1960.  Mrs. Book was a beautician and a member of Medina Valley Christian Worship.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeremiah Sibley and Rev. Billy Patrick officiating.  Interment followed in Castroville Community Cemetery.

Lawrence G. Evans Jr., age 71, of Devine passed away, October 25, 2001, in San Antonio,  He was born in Clinton, AR, August 24, 1930.  Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked as an electrician with Dilley Electric.  Graveside service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 28, at Evergreen Cemetery led by Jim Whitt and Dan Harvey.

Pearl Victoria Flathouse, age 86, went to be with her Lord on October 13, 2001, in Castroville.  She was born March 23, 1915, in Castroville.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a charter member of the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 Auxiliary. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo, pitch, poker, dominoes and Yahtzee.  Pearlie also loved to fix baked goods for her neighbors and friends, which earned her the nickname "Cookie Lady".  Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway, at 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Julian Garcia, age 88, of D'Hanis passed away in San Antonio, October 11, 2001.  He was born in Hondo, February 16, 1913.  Mr. Garcia was a retired inspector/patchier of vitreous china.  Rosary was a 7 p.m. Monday October 15, at Guinn-Horger Chapel.  Mass was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 16 at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Eduardo D. Gomez, age 84, entered rest October 25, 2001.  He was born in Sabinal on January 20, 1917.  Rosary was recited on Monday, October 29, at 7 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Chapels.  Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 30, at 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with interment following in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Arnold Stevens Griffin, age 85, of Devine, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in San Antonio. Memorials be made to South Texas Children's Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78140. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church of Devine. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery. 

Cordelia R. Hector of Devine passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at the age of 105.  She was born in Leakey, Friday, February 28, 1896.  On November 2, 1993, Mrs. Cordelia Hector, at the age of 97, became a resident of Colonial Park Nursing Home in Devine.  She was able to maintain a high level of independence at the nursing home until the last eight months of her life.  She was a 105 year old lady with a lot of grit and energy. She read her Bible daily for almost the entire eight years of her stay.  She was an inspiration to all the staff and residents.  Graveside service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 27, at Uvalde Cemetery, Uvalde, with Rev. Everett Boyce Jr. officiating.

Robert Herrera Sr., of Waco passed away Saturday, October 25, 2001, in Hondo, at the age of 52 years.  Robert was born in San Antonio, July 25, 1949.  Robert served his country in the U.S. Army.  He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was a member of the American Legion in San Antonio.  He worked at Raytheon in Waco, as an aircraft manufacturing technician and previously with Dee Howard in San Antonio.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, October 29, at Dawson Funeral Chapel with Jose Mares leading the prayers, Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Einer Ochoa officiating.  Burial followed at Hondo Cemetery in the Guadalupe Section.

Carroll S. Jones Sr., age 85, of Belton passed away Oct. 1, 2001, in a Belton nursing home. He was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Elmendorf, to Capt. Edmond D. and Maude (Swift) Jones. He grew up in Hondo and graduated from Hondo High School, attended Schreiner College, winning 1st place at the TJCC state track meet in high hurdles, and then attended the University of Texas. He served as a Master Sergeant with the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Dossman Funeral Home. Burial: Resthaven Cemetery, south of Belton. 

Sandra Fay Keylich, age 54, of Devine passed away October 16, 2001, in Medina County.  She was born in Appleton, WI, November 14, 1946.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, October 19, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clifford Kuykendall officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Donald T. Kirkton, age 79, of Devine passed away Sunday, October 14, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born January 16, 1922, in Cridley, IL.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Dennis officiating.  Interment followed in Sand Branch Cemetery.

Ervin Edgar Leinweber, age 85, of Hondo passed away October 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born in Hondo, November 9, 1915.  Mr. Leinweber was a foreman in aircraft engine repair for the civil service and the owner/operator of a barber shop. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, October 22, at Guinn-Horger Chapel with Rev. Bill Nogues and Rev. Gene Tone officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, WOW Section.

Marcelino D. Martinez, age 73, of Castroville passed away October 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born in LaCoste, April 13, 1928.  Mr. Martinez was a maintenance worker for Medina Valley ISD before his retirement.  Mass of Resurrection was Sunday, October 21, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway.  Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Monday, October 22, led by Deacon George White.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Refugia M. Martinez, age 80, of Lytle passed away Friday, October 26, 2001 in Poteet.  She was born in Laredo on April 2, 1921. Funeral service was at 9 a.m. Monday, October 29, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Juan Flores/John Molina officiating.  Interment followed in Lytle Community Cemetery.

Paul Anthony Mendoza, age 42, of Devine passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001. He was born in Hondo, September 19, 1959.  He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Margaret Auvergne Curnutt Mueller, age 63, of Castroville passed away October 30, 2001. She was born January 28, 1938 in Strawberry Plains, TN. Margaret graduated from Incarnate Word College with a degree in nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked at the Castroville Hospital for approximately 20 years before it closed in the 1970's.  She then worked for the Veteran's Hospital in Kerrville for six months before being transferred to the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, where she worked for 12 years until she retired due to health problems.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Society (she was a past president), Catholic Life Castroville branch #17 and Hermann Sons Castroville Lodge #71.  Rosary recited Friday, November 2, at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Mass of Resurrection.  Both services were officiated by Fr. Jim Conway at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment followed the Mass in the St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.

She was born in Donna on December 24, 1932.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  Funeral Service was at 2 p.m., Monday, October 29, at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor John Bishop officiating.  Interment followed in Longview Cemetery.

Gloria Rymers Pimentel, age 54, passed away October 23, 2001.  She was born in Castroville on March 2, 1947.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.  She had worked as a licensed vocational nurse at the Baptist Medical Center and Harvest Care Center of Medina in Castroville.  Rosary was recited at 6:45 P.M., Thursday, October 25, followed by Mass of Resurrection.  Both services were officiated by Fr. Jim Conway at St. Louis Catholic Church.  The family had a private graveside service to inter her cremains in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Theofil "Phil" Edmond Podevyn, age 76, of Castroville, passed away Oct. 2, 2001 in Castroville. He was born Aug. 14, 1925 in San Antonio, to the late Sylvain and Florine DeBacker Podevyn. He was a farmer, a member of the Board of Directors at Community National Bank in Castroville, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a charter member of the Belgium American Club. Mass of Resurrection: Saturday, Oct. 6, at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment: St. Louis Garden Mausoleum, Castroville. 

Mario G. Quintanilla, age 70, of Uvalde, passed away Oct. 3, 2001, of complications after a long battle with cancer.  He was born in Hondo, Sept. 11, 1931. Mario began working with Tomas Santos Electric in Hondo in 1951 and found he liked electrical work.  A short time later he began his own  business and in 1960 he opened two electrical businesses in Uvalde.  Several years later, he sold the businesses and moved his family to California. While working for American Home Foods as chief electrician, he took night classes and earned an Electrical Engineer degree in 1970 and an Industrial and Commercial Power Distribution degree with Pacific Gas & Electric both from the University of Davis.  The family moved back to Uvalde in 1971 where he again opened Mario's Electric which is now run by his son and daughter-in-law, Mario and Agnes.  He completed a Basic Peace Officer course at SWTJC in 1983 and was a member of the Uvalde Sheriff's Reserves.  In 1999 he joined the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol until his illness forced him to resign.  He loved spending time at the area rivers and enjoyed building 4X4 trucks.  Rosary and Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at St. John Catholic Church. Robert Ervin Ralph, age 79, of Yancey, passed away Oct. 6, 2001. He was born June 15, 1922, in Huntington Park, CA, to Ervin and Bessie Ralph. He served in the Navy in WWII. Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Yancey Cemetery. 

Pedro Ramirez, age 96, of Devine passed away Monday, October 22, 2001 in San Antonio.  He was born in Mexico, June 12, 1905.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating.  Interment was in Moore Catholic Cemetery, Moore.

Sherry Howard Reddick, age 46, of Uvalde died October 30, 2001 at Southwest Texas Methodist hospital in San Antonio following a brief illness.  She was born August 18, 1955, in Carrizo Spring, to James Carroll and betty June Rouse Howard. She grew up in Carrizo Springs and was a graduate of Sul Ross State University and was employed by Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District as a first-grade teacher at Anthony Elementary School at the time of her death. Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 2, in the chapel of Leonard Funeral Home in Carrizo Springs. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

William 'Billy' George Reichert, age 61, of Castroville passed away October 17, 2001, at his home.  He was born June 2, 1940 in San Antonio.  Billy was a farmer and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Society  and the Belgium-American Club. Visitation was Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.  Mass of Resurrection was concelebrated by Fr. Jim Conway and Fr. Mike Horan at 7 p.m. on Thursday October 18, 2001.  Rosary was led by Fr. Jim Conway and Msgr. Lawrence Stuebben, Friday, October 19, 2001 at 10 a.m.. Both Mass and Rosary were held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Entombment followed the Rosary in St. Louis Garden Mausoleum.

Thelma K. Risinger, age 83, of San Antonio, formerly of Devine, passed away October 17, 2001 in San Antonio.  She was born on June 8, 1918 in San Antonio.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine.  Interment was in Bandera Cemetery, Bandera.

Rubelina Rodriguez, age 68, of Devine passed away Monday, October 29, 2001. She was born in Devine, December 6, 1932.  Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Hobby Schuehle, age 85, passed away on October 23, 2001.  He was born on September 14, 1916 at Storm Hill near Quihi.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo.  On December 11, 1941, just four days after the attack on Pearl harbor, Hobby entered military service.  He was discharged from military service on December 22, 1945, and returned to Hondo.  Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, followed by interment in Quihi Cemetery.

Reagan Charles Schulte, age 34, of San Antonio, passed away October 22, 2001. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on August 21, 1967. Reagan was an employee of Time Warner Cable. David Fred "Scotty" Scott, age 67, of Austin lost his life to cancer, October 28, 2001.  he was born August 10, 1934, in Uvalde.  He was a dispatcher at Southside Wrecker Service for 13 years.  He loved his job very much and made many friends, he was very devoted to his job.  He had a great boss who he also considered his best-friend. Fred will always be remembered by family and friends. He loved fishing and reading. (No burial information listed)

Hazel Spivey Wiechmann passed away on October 24, 2001 in San Antonio.  She was born Hazel Ione Spivey on May 31, 1924 in Macdona. She attended several high schools and graduated from LaCoste High School in 1941. She then attended San Antonio Business School and took employment with the Quirk & Company Insurance Agency where she remained from 1942 until 1951. She later became an accomplished homemaker.  Funeral service was at 1pm on October 26 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Monica Flores Ybarra, age 60, of D'Hanis passed away in Hondo, October 13, 2001.  She was born in Yancey May 4, 1941.  Mrs. Ybarra was a homemaker.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, October 17, at Iglesia del Nuevo Testamento with Rev. Taylor Anne Brewton, age four, of Frisco passed away November 26, 2001, in Dallas after a battle with leukemia.  She was born on July 29, 1997 in Plano to Chris and Larissa Brewton.  According to a family member she was a precious, loving little girl who fought an incredibly strong and courageous battle with leukemia.  Graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 30, in Jones Cemetery in Utopia.  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29 in St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano with Rev. Kathryn Magee and Rev. Doug Meyer officiating.

Roy Clayburne Burleson, age 43, of Devine passed away Friday, November 30, 2001.  He was born in El Paso, July 4, 1958.  Mr. Burleson was a member of First United Methodist Church.  Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 3, at First Baptist Church, Devine, with Rev. Everett Boyce Jr. and Rev. Glen Connell officiating. Interment was at 3 p.m. at Vance Cemetery, Vance.

Eloise Carroll, age 74, of Tybee Island, GA, passed away Monday, November 12, 2001, in Memorial Health University Medical Center.   A private funeral service was held at Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church, Tybee Island. Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avalon, GA.

Julian Anthony Cerda, two month old infant son of Joseph and Sheila Wilkinson Cerda of Atascosa - LaCoste, passed away November 28, 2001, at home. He was born September 17, 2001 in San Antonio.  Mass of the Angels was offered by Fr. John Mannion, Friday, November 30, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste. Interment followed in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.

S.W. 'Bud' Chapman passed away at his residence in Fair Oaks Ranch on November 5, 2001.  He was born on March 2, 1920 in Poteet.   A memorial service was held on Friday, November 9 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Boerne, Bubba Stahl and Robert Richarz officiating.

Faye Echart of Hondo passed away in Medina Community Hospital on Friday, November 9, 2001, at the age of 91.  She was born June 8, 1910, in Enloe.  She moved to Hondo from Commerce in 1982. In July she moved from Wiemers Mobile Home Park to Harvest Care Nursing Home where she lived until the time of her death.  Graveside service was held on Monday, November 12, at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Doris Breiten Gallaway, age 76, of San Antonio passed away Thursday, November 29, 2001.  She was born October 1, 1925.  Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Monday, December 3, at Porter Loring North Chapel with Pastor Marilyn Lange officiating.  Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery.

David B. Gonzales Sr., age 86, of Natalia passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2001, in Hondo.  He was born in La Blanca, on January 3, 1915.  Mr. Gonzales was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. Friday, November 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating.  Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Jonathan 'Jon' Wade Greene, age 41, of Castroville, passed away November 3, 2001, near Waverly, TN. Jon was born June 21, 1960, at Cannon Air Force Base, NM.  Visitation was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 10, with a rosary led by Chaplain Col. James E. Sanner. Mass of Resurrection was at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, November 11, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church concelebrated by Fr. Tim Vakoe, Fr. John Mannion and Msgr. Thomas Palmer, Interment followed the mass in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in LaCoste, with full military honors.

Fritz Anton Hartmann of Quihi passed away November 15, 2001, at the age of 84.  He was born June 9, 1917, and raised in the New Fountain-Quihi area and attended school in New Fountain.   Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi with Pastor Steven Schur officiating.  Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

Marvin James, age 87, of Castroville passed away November 27, 2001. He was born December 13, 1913 in Amarillo.   Visitation held noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2001. Funeral service was at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Anne Kolmeier and Rev. Mark Lundquist officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, with Masonic services conducted by Les Teague, Devine 590 AF&AM.

Mary Kilough, age 85, of Hondo passed away on Friday, November 30, 2001. She was born in Beeville.  She was an outstanding Avon representative and in the President's Club for over 20 years as well as a member of the VFW.  The funeral service was held Saturday, December 8, at 1 p.m. at Vaughan's Funeral Home, Boerne.  Burial was in the Boerne Cemetery.

Jewel King Kincaid, age 92, of Sabinal passed away, November 15, 2001, in St. Luke's Baptist Hospital.  She was born at Meeks Ranch in the Covey Chapel Community west of Dilley on October 22, 1909.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 17, at Sabinal Methodist Church with Rev. Debby Lake officiating.  Interment followed in Sabinal Cemetery.

Lorene Martin Love passed away November 21, 2001, in Sinton Manor Nursing Home in Sinton after a long illness. She was born in Hondo, July 22, 1915.   Mrs. Love was a part of all the women's church activities including Sunday school, the children's department and Vacation Bible School. She was also chairman of the food committee for 17 years.  Funeral service was held Saturday, November 24, at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating.

Wesley  R. Mann, age 82, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio, November 9, 2001.  He was born July 10, 1919, in the home in which he lived all his life.  Rosary was at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Avonne Marie 'Bonnie' Menk, age 78, of Hondo passed away in San Antonio, November 7, 2001.  She was born in San Antonio, January 5, 1923. George Henry Moore, age 64, of Camp Verde passed away in a Kerrville hospital, November 3, 2001. He was born in Uvalde, June 16, 1937.  Mr. Moore was a former mayor of Sabinal and the first president of the Uvalde County EMS.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. , Tuesday, November 6, at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel in Sabinal. Ruth L. Satterfield, age 93, passed away November 14, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  She was born June 7, 1908 in Ennis.  She was reared in Ennis and was a graduate of Ennis High School.   In 1980 she moved to Castroville.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ennis, Hermann Sons, Hondo Garden Club and the UMW.  Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, in Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, with Rev. Glenn Jones officiating.

Erwin William Steger, age 91, of San Antonio, passed away November 19, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born January 16, 1910 in Richland.  Erwin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville and he was a former tax collector for Southwest High School.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Friday, November 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville with Rev Anne Kolmeier officiating.  Interment followed in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castrovillle. 

Candelaria Torres, age 81, passed away in Hondo on November 4, 2001.  She was born February 2, 1920 in D'Hanis.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2001. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, with both services at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section, Fr. Jeff Pehl officiated all services.

Carolyn Margo Trombley, age 58, of Hondo passed away Friday, November 30, 2001.  She was born December 13, 1942 in San Antonio.  Rosary was 7 P.M. Presiliano R. 'Pancho' Villa, of Cottonwood Falls, KS, age 59, died Saturday, November 24,2001, at newman Regional Health, Emporia, KS.  He was born in Hondo, on October 22, 1942.  Funeral Service was at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, at the Flint Hills Community Church in Kansas with Pastor James Kegin of Victory Fellowship officiating.  Funeral mass, in Hondo, 10 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Ina Melton Ward, age 82, of Hondo passed away November 10, 2001. She was born in Brady.  Ina was raised and lived most of her life in Yancey and Hondo.   Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2001, at First Baptist Church, Hondo, with Rev. John McKay officiating, Interment followed in Yancey Cemetery, Yancey.

Thomas E. Weisinger Jr. of Devine passed away on November 12, 2001 at age 91. He was born August 21, 1910.   Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 14, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home.  Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, in the Chapel of Hurley Funeral Home with Sam Cable, Tom's Nephew, officiating and Rev. Jessie Jennings Loman Wilkins, age 91, of Sabinal passed away, November 1, 2001, at Community Care Nursing Home in Hondo. She was born in Winchell, March 20, 1910.  Graveside service was November 4, in Waresville Cemetery with George Keelin officiating. 

Bernice Ambrozine Rihn Wurzbach, age 86,a native of Castroville and a resident  of Fort Worth and Arlington passed away November 24, 2001.  She was born May 25, 1915, in Castroville.  Visitation was held 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2001. Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2001 led by Fr. Jim Conway. Mass of Christian Burial was a 10 a.m. Monday, December 3, celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway.  Both services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Interment  followed in St. Louis Cemetery.

Zerr, age 64, passed away November 16, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born May 20, 1937, in Hondo.  Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home with Brother Jim Grant of Harmony Baptist Church of San Antonio officiating.  Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, NE Annex, D'Hanis.

December 2001

William Arthur Abbott Sr. passed away Friday, December 7, 2001, at the age of 84. He was born in Junction City, KS on May 30, 1917.  He attended Kansas University on a basketball scholarship.  Bill loved his country and was proud to have served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.  He flew 43 combat missions over the South Pacific, receiving a Flying Cross, Air Medal, two Purple Hearts and four Presidential Citations for four raids on Truk Island.  Bill was part owner and manager of South Loop Lumber Company until 1977. An avid sportsman, he was champion skeet shooter, hunter, member of the Lumbermen's Bowling League, life member of the NRA, past president of National Gun Club and past president of San Antonio Gun Club where he was a lifetime member of the board of directors.  Memorial Service Monday, December 17, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Antonia P. Alderete, age 76, of San Antonio passed away December 4, 2001, in San Antonio.  She was born in Devine, December 31, 1924.  Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Robert Lloyd Anderson, age 42, of D'Hanis passed away December 31, 2001. He was born on January 18, 1959, in San Jose, CA.  Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2002, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel .

Eugenia B. Clement, age 78, died Monday, December 17, 2001, at the Concord Care Center, Garner, 1A, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born December 7, 1923, in Hondo.  Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Pastor Roger Kallem officiating.  Interment was in Concord Township Cemetery.

William Jasper Craft, infant son of Todd and Elizabeth Craft of Hondo, passed away December 9, 2001.  William was born December 9, 2001.   Mass of Angels was held Tuesday, December 11, at 7 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo.  Burial was held Wednesday, December 12, at 10 a.m. in San Fernando Catholic Cemetery #2 in San Antonio.

Rosaura L. Flores, Age 65, of Hondo, passed away Friday, December 7, 2001 at her home.  She was born December 8, 1935, in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico.  She was married to Jose Flores in 1974.  She was  a retired cook and worked for several Hondo restaurants over the past years.  She was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church.  Holy Rosary was recited Sunday, December 9, at Dawson Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 10, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial was in the Oakwood Section, Hondo Cemetery.

Thomas Flores Gonzales, age 62, of D'Hanis passed away, December 23, 2001 in Hondo.  He was born in D'Hanis, March 7, 1939.  Mr. Gonzales worked at the D'Hanis Brick and Tile, Co. Rosary was at 2 p.m. and Funeral Mass 2:30 P.M. Thursday, December 27, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis with Father W. Stiles officiating.

Waymeth Schuehle Burligh 'Sonny' Groff, age 80, passed away, Monday, December 3, 2001, at his rural Hondo home.  Born June 27, 1921, at Storm Hill, near Quihi.    The funeral was held Wednesday, December 5, 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and interment was in Quihi Cemetery.  Pastor Stephen Schur officiated the services.

Florence Mary Tschirhart Haby, age 78, of Hondo and formerly of Rio Medina, passed away on December 8, 2001, in Hondo.  She was born February 7, 1923, in Castroville.  Florence was a homemaker and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and Hermann Sons Castroville Lodge #71.  Mass of Resurrection was at 6 p.m. Suday, December 9. Rosary was at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 10 at St. Louis Catholic Church.  Interment followed in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Hilda Biediger Haby, age 95, of Mico passed away December 23, 2001.  She was born January 29, 1906 in the Bader Settlement.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and was a homemaker.  Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Fr. Jim Conway  7 p.m. Wednesday, December 26 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville.  Rosary held 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville. Interment followed in St. Louis Cemetery, Castroville.

Alvin Walter Koehler, age 89, of Oak Island-Somerset passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2001 in the house where he was born.  He was born November 18, 1912.    Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2001, at the Harlandale Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, with Rev. Charles Cropper and Rev. Steve Wilson officiating. Interment followed at Oak Island Cemetery in Oak Island.

Erna Elizabeth Leinweber Martin, age 98, passed away December 24, 2001, in Hondo. She was born April 5, 1903, in the home of her parents in Hondo.   Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Nogues officiating. Interment followed in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

George A. "Pete" Masters, age 76, of Dunlay passed away on December 10, 2001 at his home. He was born December 31, 1924, in Bentonville, AR.  Visitation 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 13.  Rosary recited 7 p.m. Thursday, December 13 at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville.  Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Friday, December 14 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home followed by Interment at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

Raynaldo Navarro Sr., age 88, of Devine passed away Thursday, December 20, 2001, in San Antonio.  He was born in Devine on February 7, 1913.  Mr. Navarro was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, December 24, 2001, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Eddie Naegelin, age 85, of Castroville passed away on December 7, 2001, in Floresville.  He was born September 7, 1916, in Castroville.   Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, December 10, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 11 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Entombment followed at St. Louis Garden Mausoleum with Full Military Honors.

Acencion G. Pompa, age 93, of Lytle and formerly of Devine, passed away Dec. 31, 2001. She was born in Victoria, Aug. 15, 1908.  She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.    Funeral service was at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Churchıs with Father Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Mamie Ripps
, age 92, of San Antonio, passed away December 26, 2001.  She was born on November 28, 1909, in Castroville.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Zizik-Kearns Riebe-Saunders Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Interment followed in the San Fernando Cemetery No. 3. 

Elpidio Rodriguez, Jr., age 52, of San Antonio passed away December 29, 2001. He was born October 11, 1949, in Hondo.  Elpidio was an auto body repair mechanic.  Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002 at St. John's Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Jeff Pehl. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Sixta C. Soliz, age 91, of San Antonio and formerly of Moore, passed away Dec. 28, 2001. She was born in Moore, Aug. 10, 1910.  She was member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Funeral service was Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Josephıs Catholic Church with Fr. Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in Moore  Catholic Cemetery, Moore.

Daniel Diaz Villarreal
, age 75, of San Antonio and formerly of Devine, passed away Dec. 31, 2001. He was born in Mexico, Jan. 3, 1926.      He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.    Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fa. Clement DeMeersman officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Lois Estelle Harper Warren
, age 85, of LaCoste passed away Dec. 31,2001, in Humble. She was born Oct. 18, 1916, in Humble.    Funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with Rev. David Mayer officiating. Interment followed at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Douglas Leon Zimmerman
, age 34, of San Antonio passed away on December 9, 2001. Funeral service held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2001, at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Interment followed in Castroville Community Cemetery.
